Hello Everyone,

Just a quick question as I couldn't really answer this one through my friend Jeeves!

How do you price your pins and find out what they are worth?

I see all these posts for pins at $20, $40, $60 and up but how do people arrive at these figures? Is it just guess work?

I know on pin pics you can get an idea of how 'wanted' they are but I'm stumped!

Thanks
JJ

I am not sure either, but I think I would go with a combination of LE level, trades/wants ratio, and original retail. I would suggest looking at the archives of a lot of for sale threads on here; they seem mostly consistent with each other, within a certain range.

I would NOT recommend going by what's on ebay. People there tend to inflate prices horribly.

eBay sold prices, historical prices of similar pins, etc. If it sells for $40 on ebay you should be able to get it for less than $35 here because they aren't paying 10% ebay fees. Remember that when someone quotes you a full ebay price!

With some eBay sellers, I think they list a pin for double what it should get and then lower it until someone buys it, or do best offer. Like the Cinderell marquee's for $125 & $150 right now. Come one people.

I use ebay as a reference but it is not always accurate. some sell really high and some sell really low. Otherwise i use what i paid to attain the pin.
a few years ago i paid high prices for the pins i wanted and now that i am selling them, i have been trying to figure out if i can sell it for what i paid or of id have to take a loss. its also based on the current economy. but mostly ebay as a way of finding out current monetary value. oh and never go by active auctions. only sold auctions.
Hope that helps
Kirk

Again, lets not criticize people for what they price their pins at, everyone is entitled to price their pins no matter how ridiculously high or low they put it at. Ultimately, Its up to the consumers to know better and to not buy it for that much.

But to answer your question,

A lot of factors come into the subjective topic of pricing pins :). LE sizes, Trades/Wants ratio, Ebay sales. I tend to average all the prices the pins have sold for on here and on ebay..and try to find a good middle ground between myself and the buyer. HOpe this helps!

But when there are 4 or 5 listed at $70 then one or two at $150/$125 it seems like price gouging to me. I honestly don't see it being a $50+ pin myself but if it sells for $70 it sells for $70. That's why I say use eBay SOLD prices, not list prices. You can list it for whatever you want and for however long you want. I'll trade my spare for a marquee I don't have yet.

Side note, did you guys get stuck going to work? You didn't come back in the morning. They gave your fold up chair to ejangabang's dad.
