I always question why people end up throwing the bags for the Pin Trader Delight away and prefer they are loose. Doesn't that lose value?
I know its just a bag but I collect PTD with the bag and I notice how each set sometimes has a different bag and Its pretty interesting

I absolutely don't know why anyone would remove the pin from the bag unless they are going to keep it. Some of the bags are pretty much sealed. The older ones had those zip lock bags. Still, why remove them if you're only going to trade or sell them?

90% of the ptd I see on sale or trade always come loose and it kinda ticks me off. I rather spend a lot of money knowing the pin hasn't been messed around or thrown somewhere.

For the PTD's I buy at DSSH, I always keep the pin in the bag for trading. This way, the pin is protected from getting scratched. I also try to keep the bag on the PTD's I keep. If for some reason I have to sell off the pins, I have the original packaging.

Well, I put any traders that did not come on a backer card into little ziplock baggies of my own (I bought little bead storage baggies in bulk for this purpose), and then stick the pin post through the bag and pin them to my cloth trader bag pages for easy viewing. My OCD doesn't like that there are several types of PTD baggies, so I just replaced them all to be the same and look good. Traders that come in special packaging and/or cards - I leave them alone as they are.

Keepers all get the new baggie/pin to page treatment until I come up with a real display!

:)

I never realized this was even an issue!

Whenever I get a PTD, if it's still in its bag, the first thing I do is remove it so I can take a photograph. (I take close-up pictures of all my pinmail for Instagram, whether they're keeper or traders!) Then I usually add the tiny bag to a special big bag I have (full of pin cards and mystery bags and whatnot), or sometimes I just toss it. :ugh:

I figure the bags that DSF uses are super generic tiny ziplock baggies, so if anyone really wanted them, they could replace them on Amazon or eBay for pennies. I keep all my traders side by side in my pin book, which for the most part, sits on my desk untouched (and only leaves the house about once a year), so none of the pins are getting scratched up. I always thought they looked prettier out of their bags!

I'll have to make sure to keep all my bags with the pins from now on.

I kept one of my Rapunzel PTD's in its bag since i got it and it tarnished really bad on the back, way worse than the one I took out of the bag. Worker must have had oils or something on their fingers.

Disneycollector4994, would you mind posting some pictures of the various PTD bags? I live across the country and have never even seen one, let alone knew the PTD's came with bags, LOL! The few I've bought/traded were bag and backer-less.

I worry about this too. I have read that keeping pins in their original packaging does more damage than if you took them out. I have some older pins (90's) in their original packaging that tarnished really awfully, but then again I have no idea where they were stored before I received them either...

if you live in a hot humid area you more likely to get tarnish on pins when stored.
Some people store them in garages or attics which is also the problem.
Even if they tarnish it still has more value if its new and unopened rather then loose

This must be for our parties?

I disagree, I have seen no difference in value with the bag or with out. I have never once had a trader ask me if they were in the original bags or not. That may be your preference, but as a whole I have seen nothing to back up your statement. But to each their own.

I remember when nobody cared about the original backer cards either. Maybe the bag thing will make a difference in the future. Only time will tell.

did PTD come with backer cards back then?
which ones were they?

The backer card comment was about pins in general, not the ptds. When I first started trading many years ago, nobody kept that backer cards or cared if they still had them or not, now people are wanting the original cards. So in the future people may be more picky about if the ptds have the bags.

The PTDs in question that may have had backer cards (in the beginning) were actually store stock that was then used as the PTD when the PTD pin ran out.
