Following my previous thread saying they MAY be going -

There is very little point in approving something which will not be available in the future.
Both private and public groups will be going.
This is why the mods are not approving any new Public groups.

Now we know it, what do you think about them ALL going, even your private groups you use.

Please let this thread be a topic of calm and thoughtful comments (I am sensing a disturbance in the force typing this out lolol)

I keep up the PTN group, that really helped me keep in check as well as the definitive order of them for my frames. It will be a shame to see them go imo as some pins don't show up in searches but are in groups so alot easier to find.

Wow, that really sucks that they'd remove that... That's pretty much how I do most of my trading/inventoring...

I use 'groups' as lists of pins I need (or have for trade sometimes), or pins that I want to get someday... Many of the pins are on the not-so-desirable level, so I don't want them in my normal 'Wants' list or I get trade offers all day for OE pins in exchange for DSF marquees or something... It just got old after a while...

I have personal pin groups that represent what _I_ have out of a larger group... Stuff like that.
Will they not be offering a way at all to continue that? I probably won't even bother with the site anymore if all that goes away... Anyone have any alternatives for maintaining multiple lists/groups of your own pins?

One thing to realize though, is that search is definitely changing. So problems with the current search won't necessarily translate into problems going forward. So for your DLRP PTN pins there may very well be a "display in order of release date" option, so you would still be able to see them all in the "right" order. One of the thing I'm guessing, we'll have is that scroll they have on the front page of pins. I wouldn't be surprised if on pins that were part of series, had a scroll of all the different pins in a series. But that's just a guess based on what I would do.

I'm more concerned that they don't seem to be willing to budge on adding a few groups between now and when new Pinpics debuts. Unless they plan on rolling it out at the Disney Fan Club Event in a couple weeks. They don't need to add every group people want to do, but they really need to have the Pixar mystery set, and the 2013 Hidden Mickey groups. There are just some things you need to do to show that you are "on top of things," and not out-of-touch or out-of-date. And right now, I bet a lot of people are coming to Pinpics to specifically look for those 3 things. And without the user base being privy to what is coming and how long it's going to take, the impression is "we don't care," just like we were all disappointed that it took Disney so long to have that information. It's not like the approval process takes hours or days where it would be a waste of time, if something is changing in 2 weeks. But I have no reason to believe that we're looking at another 3 or 6 months for anymore site changes.

Also, losing the private groups is a huge disappointment. There is no way they can predict and account for all the different ways people use Pinpics. Pin groups were a bit of a "sandbox" where you make them whatever you wanted. I know some people used them to indicate what frame a certain pin was in. I used them for shopping lists, and breaking up my wants lists into smaller chunks, inventories of what my Mom needs for certain things, separate from my own account stuff. I do that because my Dad does a poor job of keeping their account up-to-date. So that is a big loss of functionality. The loss would be easier to bear, if we had some information about what is upcoming. And they better announce IN ADVANCE when the private groups are going away, because I need to print a bunch of stuff ahead of time. I better not wake up one day and not be able to access them.

Reminds me of another problem I have run into on other sites I frequent:

I understand that PinPics is the private property of someone, but if they want it to be something that many people use, how about giving us some idea of the changes that are going to take place BEFORE they implement them. If it's supposed to be _for_ collectors, then let _collectors_ have some say in the changes they make...

They are just going to completely re-design the whole site and just dump it on use and we'll be stuck with it...

I don't understand what's so hard about people that make public-service websites to simply ask 'Hey, what if we did this?' before just springing it on us.

(Again, I understand it's their site, they can do what they want with it, but it would be nice... :) )

The groups are only as good as the person that keeps them updated. I think a lot of them have fallen by the wayside, because they cannot find volunteers to keep them current.

Well, I think the current public groups could be handled in a different way, like tags placed in the pin entry itself. But there's still the issue of keeping that current if someone forgets to tag it correctly I suppose.

What I like are personal groups to be used as people describe above... So you can keep track of all sorts of things only known to you... :)

Very disappointed to hear they're going. I maintain a few and always keep them updated. My main one is Muppets by Disney. It only categorizes the official Disney Muppet pins and keeps out all the other shoddy muppet pins from before Disney owned them.

I don't like them disappearing because I find them so useful. Does this mean there won't be Owns/Wants/Trades groupings either?

I am totally confused. Nothing new. Also for the record I am a Virgo and hate change. I have use the groups for cast lanyard pins, Masterpiece pins, Gomes pins, PTN pins. Disappointing.
