question about LE pins

If you had an oppourtunity to purchase a VERY limited run pin, say 250, 100 or less, but the pin belonged to a set, does that still count as a LE-whatever pin? does it matter to you if it belonged to a set, and the set was broken up for individual sale? would you rather have the whole set? your thoughts....

pin that are part of a set are the same LE number as the set , of course.

nope doesnt matter to me,its all about the art of that pin for me, unless Im overcome with the urge to finish set cuz the rest look so darn good< a compulsion many pin geeks have, i admit it, Hi my name is Lucan444 and im a pin geek>

I don't usually collect a whole set, so I'm good with just collecting the pins I like from a set.

If a pin can only be aquired through an LE set and no other sources, eg. the Designer Doll framed set, then yes the LE count for that pin is as high as how many framed sets were made. I usually find that unless traders want the whole set in general they'll usually be wanting to trade/pay up for the pin that fits a specific collection. Case in Point, I just got done trading with Lucan for an open edition pin with two completer pins of a framed set, one LE 250 which had 200 collectors set/50 framed set and the other LE 50 which came direct the framed set; mind you the pin I traded for can only be aquired though MK's Flag Retreat ceremony or second hand trade so which one is more desirable

Personally I still view a pin from an LE set as valuable as the LE of the set as a whole. I just got one of the Peter Pan mermaid's from the LE50 Tink's summer pin quest set and to me she is like another LE50 =]

I think that a low LE pin from a set is often more valuable than the set, since most people do not break up sets.

There are times when they offer pins in a set that are offered seperately and only the completer set pin is really the LE size of the framed sets. The other pins, to my knowledge, are the LE size of the ones offered seperatly also. For example, the Sci-Fi Academy badge sets that came with 85193. Only the silver/pewter badge 85186 was LE400. The rest were "limited release."

Ditto. Sometimes I'll just get the completer, chaser, or hard to find pin. And then you get people trying to trade you whatever you want for them, lol

it seems, the consensus is that it doenst matter if a pin is sold individually, if it orginially belonged to a set. But i would like to hear the views of some "purists", who believe sets shouldnt be seperated.

I know I was at one of the big September events at Epcot, at an artist signing, and the artist overheard someone say that they were going to break up a set, and he was pretty ticked off about someone "dismantling an artist's vision." (I might remember which artist, if I look up some pictures of artists, but I doubt I would remember which set.)

I also would say that it is very hard to trade for sets. I have several on my wants list and they seem to be unobtainable. Even the few times a year I get to trade in person, people don't always bring their sets.

Overall, I think the number of sets that can broken up, relative to the total number of any set, is very low. Which is why when you say high availability of pins from sets.....turn and run the other way.
