I'm in need of traders and just pins in general that arn't part of my collection. So I have been contemplating just collecting the Hitchhikers where Haunted Mansion is concerned. This means all my other Haunted Mansion pins (except those in my boxed set and the Vinylmations, and possibly pins of the house) will be up as traders.

I think I've decided to collect too many things to be honest, apart from the Mansion I also collect Phantom Manor, the Caterpillar from AiW, Ludwig Von Drake and Jose Carioca. Oh and I also want to start collecting Thunder Mountain.

So... should I just focus on the Hitchhikers for the Mansion pins? Its a shame because I do like my other Mansion pins but I think I really need to focus more. There are so many Haunted Mansion pins that its kinda scary to try and collect all the characters.

What do you guys think about this?

After all the Hitchhiking Ghosts are my favourite characters in the ride; I love those guys. XD

one thing about the HHG, they are the most popular overall so there are far more pins to chose from.

you can always focus on the troublesome trio, and still grab related pins if the pins themselves are just So fantastic. not just because they are Haunted Mansion pins in general.

Focus on the pins themselves , not just the theme. We love Nightmare before,, but there are some pins that just fall flat. We would rather have one pin that is just eye appealing and well done than half a dozen that are just so so..

My 2 cents anyhow

HM pins... so many. You can't be a completest anyway unless you collect nothing else at all. Look at my siggy, you are not collecting "to many" things. Just pick and choose what you like from each catagory. I don't collect every single Thumper, only him alone, or him and miss bunny, and I have to like the pin too. I pick and choose the pins in a catagory. Being a completist in this hobby is crazy hard.

Trade away my dear trade away!

i think you should manage a trip to DLP! buy double everything and then trade :) OR next UK disneystore sale, load up--we across the pond love that crap. Dont trade any pin you have and adore?? what for? You got them cause you love them.......also keep checking flea market/yard sale and antique stores (not sure what you call them over there) ya never know. This advice comes from a girl who loves all 2000 pins she has and collects basically everything. Its easier for me to tell what i dont collect. BTW that would be almost every pin for sale at MICKEY CIRCUS. grrrrrr can you say traders?

I would keep hold of your pins if you ove them but you can always start o narrow own what you want to collect from now on. I recently stopped collecting the aristocats, and am happier for it, but I still have one or two in my collection that I just didn't want to part with.

Also I don't collect every single pin, if I don't like it, I just dont get it! This was especially true with my fox and the hound collection, there are 2 pins on that list that I don't like and never want to own so will never go in to my collection, but as far as I am concerned I have completed the collection. I have found it a lot of fun, just collecting one or two things this year, concentrating on my smaller collections. It has kept me on track and stopped me spending stupid money!

Thanks for the replies everyone. :)

I'm still not sure myself; you guys have brought up some good suggestions. Right now I'm not 100% sure on what my collection actually looks like together as I'm keeping pins in a binder and a box right now while I wait for a Pin Bag. I might have to have a good look through them all before I decide what to do.

I do want to focus on the Hitchhikers; that's for sure. But you're right there are other Mansion pins I love as well. Doesn't help that I'm a very indecisive person eh?

And I'd love to go to DLP. I am hoping to visit there this year but I'm not sure what's happening about that at the moment. If I do get there I'd definitely buy a lot of pins... oh and ride Phantom Manor a lot of course.

Syrius you've made me curious as to what the two pins are.

Actually one of the reasons I wanted to just focus on the Hitchhikers for the Mansion is because I wanted to have smaller collections too. The other things I've decided to collect don't have an insane amount of pins; just the Mansion. It it does seem a bit overwelming sometimes; even though the Hitchhikers are probably the most popular characters from the ride it still makes collecting less daunting.

Thing is I've been collecting so many HHG pins at the moment that I haven't really been adding much to my other collections.

Heheits these two,

3885, because it is part of a set and just has the window tweeds cow on it .

And

38370, because.. Well I won't go in to what I think of this pin, but I do not like it.

You should totally focus on the hitchhikers, it would make a great collection. I have had to stop myself collecting HM cause it was the first ride I went on while over here and I loved it! I ended up with a frame set and am happy to just have that.

Ah yes, I've seen the second one before. I'm not completely sure what's going on. o_o

Anyhow yeah I might just focus on collecting them. Makes things easier. And I'm glad you loved the Haunted Mansion! I haven't been on it in such a long time now but its an amazing ride! :) I guess you must of seen the new interative Hitchhiking Ghosts then? When I went there they had the ghosty-go-round mirror effect like they still do in DLR.

Lady Dobbins, I would keep all your mansion pins and trade some of your other themed pins. I mainly collect as many mansion pins as I can, but I really limit my other themes such as Alice; I only have about 15 or 20 pins not including the April 2, 2011 frame set from DLR's event. Then I only have 6 Tinkerbell pins. The most of another theme I have is about 30 Pirate pins. I try to keep those themes scaled back to a reasonable amount, while allowing myself to go hog wild on mansion pins! It works out pretty good.

I LOVED HM! The interactive thing was awesome, I went on it twice and got two different endings. It was fun! You should pop your pins on a cork board and take a pic, I'd ove to see your hms <3

Hehe, yeah that pin, I have no idea what is going on!

Hmmm, interesting idea. I was planning on trying to get at least 10 of each of my other interests but keep the Mansion as my main collection; and then maybe expanding to 20 of each at a later date. Well except Phantom Manor, I want all the pins for that... but its not that many anyhow. You've kinda reminded me of that idea. XD Thank you for the suggestion. :) I'm going to have to figure this all out somehow.

Yay! :) Its just the most fun ride. I really want to see the interative HHG in person. And keep riding it until I get Ezra as my Hitchhiker of course. <3

A cork board... hmmm, well I'm getting a Pin Bag soon. But a cork board might be useful just to take a few pics of my collection. I've been wanting to post my collection on the forums for a while now but keep putting it off because I know I'm getting more pins in the mail. XD

Tell me about it. After 7 years, I finally narrowed it down to 5 themes but luckily enough to only really need 15-20 pins. But along the journey, I have acquired 1500+ traders now. Narrowed it down too late.

I decided to only collect after spending $$$$ and 30 different themes:

UP. Any and all.
Rapunzel. Not Tangled.
DSF LE 250, LE 200, LE 150, LE 100 and LE 50. Basically any LE less than 300.
DSF Surprise pins. Any LE
Lotso
WDI Sorcerer Hats LE 150 or less

Ah, I was in this situation a couple of years back. I was collecting Lion King, Stitch, Iago anything Limited Edition and a bunch of other random 'cheap' pins.

In the end, I didn't trade/sell any away - I decided just to focus purely on Lion King, whilst picking up the occasional Stitch pin that I liked. I still pick up other pins (*cough*Iago*cough*), but again, only if I really, really like it.

I'm just hoping to narrow it down a bit with my collections I guess. Then I can work on a few collections at the same time. But yes it does matter whether you like a pin or not... I mean there are some pins I want that I don't actually collect.

I just had a look at your collection on PinPics and it really would be a shame if you're going to trade those beautifull HM pins.
Maybe keep what you really really like, not every single pin. Or only HM (and Hitchhiking Ghosts) and Phantom Manor and only the pins you really love :)
Just my opinion :) Don't be to quick with trading those pins away ;)
Oh and you know if you ever need some pins from Paris to use as traders or for your own collection or what ever, you know you can always ask me and I love to pick them up.
Don't charge anything extra, just the price of the pin and shipping. So if you need help, just ask ;)

Take some time and think about what you really want to keep- don't be too hasty in trading away pins you love just because you think your collection may be too broad. If you have a change of heart later, it may be really hard to try and trade back for those pins you decided to trade out.
As a HM collector myself, I began collecting EVERYTHING HM in addition to Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty, Evil Queen, NBC, Lion King (just Tumbaa), and other randon oddball stuff that I liked. It got expensive very quickly. And unless you are $$$rich$$ it's pretty impossible to collect all the HM pins out there although I really tried. LOL. So I decided to narrow my focus. In regards to HM, I now stay away from "cartoon" ghosts, ghosts dressed as other characters, ghosts riding attractions (except maybe the doombuggies), name badges, and others that don't seem "true" HM pins to me or are just plain ugly.
As for traders, I see great deals on the DPF sale boards all the time. That may be an inexpensive way to get some licensed and inexpensive traders to use. You can try auction sites but be careful and do your "scrapper" homework/research.

Everyone has there own take on what to collect. Ive seen many of my friends collect a hell of alot more themes than you mentioned and they just get what they can and trade for the rest. I say you could easily go ahead and collect what you like but do it on what takes priority. If you dont see any HM pins you want around but you see something else you like from what you collect get that. There is no harm in slowly collecting different themes.

I too have recently felt that some of my stitch pins were a bit meh and bought in the moment of when I first started trading and now am either selling or trading them away and Im not regreting it at the moment as Ive been able to get some of my holy grails from it.

good luck in your decision. and if you go to DLP this year then try for the xmas event me and a friend are hoping to go to this year..maybe we could make it a british invasion :P

When DLP is concerned I'm always interested in Phantom Manor; and now Thunder Mountain... it kinda compliments Phantom Manor after all. XD I guess in general I love Frontierland. There's not many DLRP Thunder Mountain pins though unfortantly. :( Like... three? o_O And that's including the new one.

I'm actually going to want to buy a Vinylmation (not just the pin for it) in July I think it is. That Phantom one is being released from Park 9 series. XD

Awww, I love cartoony ghosts! XD Probably because I think Ezra looks great all toony. But anyhow yeah trying to collect all the HM pins would be crazy. o_O I was thinking if I traded the pins for pins I want quite a bit (not all my most wanted pins are high LE or anything anyhow, I'm not too fussed about LE sizes) it would be okay. I just feel that the other HM pins I have might just sit there while my HHG pins take center stage. The other HM pins might be better in someone elses collection.

Well least I'm not the only one collecting a lot of themes. ^_^;

The Xmas season eh? Hmmm... I didn't consider that. I was planning on going some time when there isn't a holiday celebration on as I wanted to see the Manor as it usually is. Photo oppitunties and all that. I'm not sure what the Manor looks like at Christmas... unless it looks like it usually does. XD

What's the Christmas season like at DLRP? :)

Yeah and Phantom Manor would look a bit odd in the snow... I've seen a pic of Thunder Mountain in the snow before; it looks very pretty.

I'm not sure if I'm going to DLRP this year anyhow. Really want to visit though... its been too long.

You can keep trying to collect HHG if you want but remember, last time we were at WDW they came home with my wife, my son and me. ;)

XD Strangely enough I've probably still got a HHG around my house somewhere... I haven't been there in over ten years. I can't even remember which one it was. o_o
