I have never been to a ptn .. I am really trying to get the anna ptn pin, what time should I get there in the morning to wait in line? Any info on how I can go about getting this pin will help! thanks

DTD Pin Traders usually opens 1 hour prior to park opening. But for this pin, if you arrive at that time, you will not get it I don't think. But people tend to hate these kinds of threads/questions because it just drives hype & speculation. *Most* people these days are out to make money on the hobby so noone wants to tell you what they are really thinking because they want to make sure they and all their friends/cliques have an edge to get their own pins for themselves. Good luck. I suggest if you do get 2 for yourself you keep the extra in anticipation for WDW's Elsa. Anna will be good to have to trade.
 
since you are new. What mark is saying is there is no way to say how early to get there. Keep looking around here for updates. In the past some one will tell you that they have seen a line start up or that they will be going and at what time.

I will say that for sure people will spend the night or arrive very early when there is money to be made. Good luck to you and if you do not get the pin that day, keep your head up and look around for the best deal you can find if you must have the pin.

I miss hanging out at the park all night for pins. We had some CRAZY but fun times doing it. We made some great friends waiting in line.
 
I have only been around for one PTN and that was this time last year. It was the Cheshire Cat and Jasmine PTN pins. It was also the day that the Princess Carousel R/C pins were released. When I got there at around 7;30 AM, there was already a very, VERY long line at DTD Pin Traders. I was able to buy the PTN pins that morning so I'm not sure that the info you got was accurate. Again, as Mark said, people are in pins for money and they will give you as much misleading information as possible in order to secure more for themselves. Unfortunately that includes several members of this community.

My best advice is to get there are early as possible, if in fact they will not be available until that evening (highly unlikely btw) then you can always leave and come back or go hangout in the parks, shop around or just sit in the inevitable line that will be growing from dawn. If you have followed DSF releases you will know that people used to camp out for DAYS in order to get pins that they could flip for $$ so it would not surprise anyone if people were in line at the earliest allowed time in order to get the Anna pins....Frozen is so overhyped that people are paying out the nose for these already.

Good luck in your searches and be prepared for the worst....while hoping for the best of course
 
i already warned my sister to be up and moving by 6 am as i wanted to be in DTD by 630 at the very latest. Considering we'll probably be in DLR until midnight or later the night before, it should make for a very tiring couple of days at the park...
 
Hype for these types of releases just snowballs. One person will say 7am, then the next will plan 6:30 and others will try to beat them and secretly plan to come for 5:30 etc etc etc. That is why people usually don't respond to questions like this. 375 people can buy 2 each. Are 375 people going to come at like 4am or sleep over night, no, I don't think so. But if DSF releases have shown anything, 800+ people are willing to be somewhere and drag people with them by 5am (WiR train set.) The last 3-day campout had around 150 people in a parking lot camp for 3 days thinking they were getting 2 sets of 4 BT pins and the chance at a surprise pin. That release you were shelling out potentially $150 for pins selling on eBay for $400+ and the unknown surprise people were hoping for. WiR train set cost you like $96 and wasn't selling for even double due to a pre-selling war on eBay and Facebook. People with no credit or credit cards need to bankroll their purchases ahead of time so they presell. People who pre-buy just enable it. Bunch of enablers out there. These pins have presold quite high so the waters are shark infested, they smell money. So if these pins presell or are prevalued higher than any park release since a PODM, maybe even higher. You can expect a lot of people. This post probaly just convinced another 25 people to try to come even earlier than they were planning before. Oh, now another 5 are planning earlier than those 25...aah how the cycle continues.

Alas, perhaps the only saving grace is that people who go to DSF see DSF flyers all over the place. But perhaps they haven't seen the PTN pin posted anywhere. Well, it used to be that way until all the facebook people and groups popped up. The last D23 WDI shopping day with the DLR Jessica's wasn't well circulated and 7am people still got all the pins fine and the sale was at 8am. It depends. I think with the facebook groups and presales people are more informed about what is coming and potentially what it could be worth. In years past, people would tend to be quieter about releases that weren't well published hoping to get more for themselves. And it used to be texting and who you knew to find out how big the lines were. Not it's plastered all over everywhere. So more people come. Disney hasn't upped their edition sizes anywhere so this dicotomy of retail price vs. market price is just growing and causing more and more issues. We already have had fighting, you'd think Disney would just figure out by now who is popular and make more of them.
 
more money... more money... more money!!! So sad that some people cant find a different way to make money. There are lots of things to stand inline for and re-sell. Why do these few bad fokes have to do there dirty work on the back of a Disney hobby?? WWWD....
 

Kory, if you think about it, it really isn't that much money that they make. Retail is $15+ tax. Assuming everyone has at least the lowest AP, it's $15 (calculating discount into it basically nixes out the tax). Let's say it takes 12 hours (from the time they get in line to the time they actually get to check out.) The pin is going between $90 and $150, so let's do the average at $120. Minus the retail price, one is "profiting" $105. Divide that by 12 hours = $8.75/hr.

Ooh, the profit is so good...not really. Any one should be able to get more money panhandling at the exit of the freeway than they could by reselling.

Say, they are in line for 7 hours. Okay, now that's $15/hr. Still not a living wage in So Cal.

And that is the reason why some people are willing to pay higher prices (so they don't have to go through the headaches of standing in line)
 
Yes I know numbers can change an not all will be the same. But lets not pretend or try to make it sound better than it is. We all know that if there was not money to be made, there would not be all the re-sellers in line. Let me now give some numbers we all know are true. Oh and I am not saying people are getting rich. Just that they are making something and hurt the hobby while doing so.

For us members that have been around for a while, we all remember that this bs started to get bad on V-day 3 years ago. DSF had the set of 4 pins Up pins that would run you $12.95 each. so that's $51.80 + tax. Lets call it $60 to be nice. lol

those pins sold for $400.00 plus. I even recall one person selling them as the drove away in there car. Not next day or some time later. It was buy the pins and post pics from car to make money asap.
Now lets say they only sold for $360.00 which we all now is less than they went for. That would be $300 tax free in one sell with little time invested. As I said not all releases are the same.. but the goal for many is to make some kind of money. Its not about the Disney magic or enjoyment of our hobby. This is all IMHO and hope that clears things up a bit.

Yeah, that was an overnight release as well. 150 people each got 2 sets and everyone else left empty handed. <--no, I was not there, I have only done one overnight release and not in a urine-filled alley. :lol:

In every hobby there will always be resellers. It's just a fact of life. Some people can afford to stand in line for hours at end and sell their pins at "high" prices.

Just like there will be people saying they want it for their collection and then a week, two weeks, a month later sell it for a higher price.

Some re-sellers can afford to hold onto their inventory. Some cannot. Some people can hold out and get a pin later when it's cheaper (assuming it is). There's probably some people who figured that the DSF Frozen pin wouldn't sustain its high prices when it first came out but, unfortunately, they have
