Just wanted to post and say: I was thinking about buying one more expensive/very much wanted by some other people pin on here, and then auction it, and possible get some pins I would want, and some others I could use to start trading on here . Is this a silly idea, and which pins/characters, etc do a lot of people on here want right now?

You always take a chance when you put up an auction. Since one of the requirements is that you have to pick a winner you will have to choose between the offers you get and sometimes you don't get pins that you really want, but do manage to get some good traders out of it. You will have to do more posting. I think there is a minimum of 30 posts before you can run an auction. As for what should you get to do one, take a look at the auctions running now and see what gets the most interest.

Welcome to DPF!!! I see you are not allowed to give out your real name, that is never a bad idea. It is always better to be safe then sorry.

I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I do.

Do you have a pinpics account already? If not you should start off with a DisneyPinPlace account. (like pinpics only free forever). If you do have a pinpics account you can also import it to DPP by a simple click of the mouse.

Welcome to DPF! I'm pretty new to the hobby too, I've loved pins for a while but finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. In response to what characters are popular: Little Mermaid, Frozen, Up, and Tangled seem to be highly in demand along with villains. My advice is start slow (and cheap) - this hobby gets really expensive x__x

Yeah, instead of buying an expensive pin just put that money towards pins you actually want for your collection!

While it's always fun to auction stuff off, I find that the main auctioneers tend to be those who are comfortably sit with pin trading. By that I don't mean they have every pin they want, but they have a good amount of nice stuff that if they don't get what their heart's desire is on an auction, they're still at no loss I've been wanting to run an auction for a good month or so now but IDK what to auction ^_^ If I were you, I'd definitely just invest in the pins you want or (if you can get someone to agree to trade a pin you want for another one that is on sale if the pin you want is NOT on sale) other pins that you know you can definitely get a certain pin you want with

Right now the big things are Frozen, Tangled, Up, and then there are the classics which don't seem to ever be bad necessarily like Little Mermaid, select Stitch and Jessica, marquees, etc.

Welcome to DPF! As tempting as it may be to do what you are suggesting, it can also be very dangerous if you don't get the kind of bids you might be hoping for. You could however just try to trade it, much like auctions you can ask for best offers and let people know what you are looking for and what you are not interested in. However unlike auctions you can just turn down everything until you get an offer that you like, much safer but likely to take longer to get the perfect offer.

If you are feeling brave and think that your pin(whatever you decide to auction) is something that a lot of people are looking for (you can check the wants/trading stats) then I say go for it! I would suggest offering a go between or assistant to facilitate the transaction because you are so new that without that you may not get the kind of bids you are looking for.

Again welcome to the community and be sure to get to know other members!

I'd start with a trade thread, don't put it on auction immediately. If you notice that you're getting a lot of offers for trading the pin then you can probably put it up for auction. The "downside" to auctioning is that you HAVE to pick a winner. So if no one is interested in your pin as an auction and only one trader bids (I'm just saying sth right now) a booster set, you have to pick that bid.

The popular stuff right now is Frozen. Also Tangled, Little Mermaid and I'd say Wreck It Ralph too.

I agree with everyone else. Just use the money you have to buy the pins you want.

Right now Frozen and The Little Mermaid seem to be the most sought after.

The problem with auctions is sometimes (unless you get a grail pin that most everyone wants) you get stuff you don't want or that isn't even worth the auction. I.E. why buy a $200-500 grail pin that isn't a pin you want for yourself, then auction it off for pins that might be worth around the same if you're lucky (if you're not lucky, you'll get bids that only value in the $100-200 range), just to have traders? Why not just spend the $200-500 that you would've spent and buy pins that you want for yourself? Unless you collect something that isn't as "hot" right now (like you're auctioning an LE Frozen or Tangled pin, but only want Fab Five in return), it might not be worth the trouble and expense.

Thanks for all the advice! . I see what you mean about the auction, so I'll probably try to go the trade route instead. I know it sounds silly, but I almost would want to get a few pins I wouldn't want out of it, so I could trade those later.

maybe go to the sale thread and buy some traders? that way at least you can control what you are getting.

I have to say that just saving up to buy what you want is much less risky!

Hi, I'm new too and still trying to figure all this out. Maybe get some mystery pin sets online at the Disney Store and use them for traders. Much less expensive.

with this, remember that anything readily available for purchase on DS.com is probably not going to be a great trader, because everyone else can buy it, too. some people still want them, of course, but they're not "hot" pins. nothing wrong with that, just something to keep in mind.
