Hi, Since the postage increase in the US, Ebay sellers are quoting me some ridiculous postage prices to the UK like $14 and $20 for one pin. Since I was previously paying in the region of $5, this seems like a very big increase. Its possible, once sellers get used to the new prices their prices for postage will come down.

But in the meantime, can you guys let me know what sort of prices youve been paying at the post office to send pins, since the increase? Thanks
 
Paid 9.45 yesterday for 2 pins to the UK,I hate to say this but my overseas trades will be few and far between now!!
 
I had two pins from the US sent to me recently and they also cost $9.45 to post... and that was just regular first class!
 
Yup horrible! may wanna check out fed ex at this point and my overseas trading has come to a sad hault unless its at least 3 or more pins. I just sent 2 pins to belgium and it was READYYYYYYY freakin $16 SIXTEEN....i have a few UK gals i love trading with and at this point we do a ongoing trade (i keep alittle bag with the pins in my room) and about 3x a year we ship...it kills me cause i want my pins but it makes it fun also. i am alo open to do this with any europe peeps that can get some things off my list by trading/buying or going to DLP so PM me if ya want....

qustion.////so how is it mailing within europe guys? ex. uk to belgium or Netherlands to France....how much does that run you in US dollars appr.?
 
I always find Ebay sellers to charge alot for shipping to cover their ebay/paypal fees, this is just adding on top of that. On a good note, I went to the Post Office yesterday and the one thing they changed this past month is that all priority mail includes tracking, one less hassle to worry with if you multi-trade/sell large orders.

I just sent 5 pins registered mail to the Uk and it was 22.50. I sent another package at the same time to France and it was 9.45. That is almost double what it used to cost.


They have gone crazy at the post office. They need to get rid of middle management instead of gouging us.

Europe is only a few pence less than sending to the US nowadays, it used to be way cheaper. US for one pin is £3.30 ($5.14) and for Europe it can vary, but recently I paid £2.80 ($4.37) to Belguim.

I was quoted $9.45 by an Ebay seller, so that seems in line with what alot of you have paid, but thats a big increase. Postage costs are certainly killing trading for me.

Another thing I noticed with Ebay though, is that they have a new scheme whereby the international postage quoted includes your customs fees. But hang on I thought, the item I was looking at, was well under the import limit, so I wouldnt have to pay any customs fees on it.

Belgium also bumped up their prices since this month.

Sending a 1 regular sized pin to the US is now around 6 $.
Sending a CD is around 11 $, which I think is expensive, it weighs hardly anything.


I now also sometimes see sellers using a flat rate box (or some other box-type thing), if you would only buy 1 pin from them, they charge you about 26 $ to Europe because they wanna ship it in this box.
When you e-mail them for a padded envelope and First Class Mail, you get a reply back like "you can fill up the box" ... yeah, but I only want that 1 pin :/

Are you sure it was after the price increase (which happened January 27, 2013)? Because the first two ounces from the US to the UK is $6.55, 3rd ounce is $9.45, and it goes up from there!
 


I think this is the type of thing where enough public outcry just might get them to change their minds. It worked with Bank of America's $5 debit card fee and Netflix's separate streaming accounts plan.
 
I believe the US to overseas postage costs were adjusted so they are now more in line with the overseas to US costs (both ways should cost about the same since everything goes thru the same system)
 
Wow, I wonder what it will cost to send a pin to France. Perhaps, I should turn down the offers due to the postage rate. One is quite heave as it is a D23 Reagan Library book pin.

Yer, Ive thought exactly the same thing and avoided getting boxed pins for trading on.

FYI: Fed-Ex and UPS want $50-100 to send a parcel/letter to Europe. Both of those round to the nearest pound (weight).

This is first class international mail via post office:

1-2 ounces: 6.55
3-4 ounces: 9.45
5-8 ounces: 12.75
9-12 ounces: 14.90
13 - ? = $16.75
16 ounces = $18
 
I sent out a package to the UK at 1.30 iw as 18+ to ship I marked the value at 20 even though it was more, so they better not charge the other end an arm and a leg.
 
As long as you marked the customs form as "gift", you should be OK. I've sent packages with a value of up to $50 and postage of $25 and haven't had any customs charges added (at least that's what I was told)
 
Darn it ;-; is there really no place to print first class international for the UK online?! Geez what is wrong with you USPS! ;-;
I was going to go to the usps today but the hubby got called into work early x.x argh! Guess I'll wait til tomorrow. This is so inconvenient what the heck are they doing? What on earth possessed them to do these changes?
 

If you look at other alternatives, the post office really is a lot cheaper (and they are still losing money):

For a one pound letter/package to Scotland via UPS, (this was the only postal code I had handy), it's $82 (and that's the quote online, when you go in person, it will probably be more pricey).

For a half pound letter to Scotland via Fed-Ex, it's $59-85.
