References and feedback

Another thread topic got me thinking.... can you smell the smoke? :lol: Feedback, and references for DPF, Pinpics and other forums.

Typically:

• When you set a trade up via pinpics, you leave the feedback at the old dizpins ref center.
• When you set a trade up via DPF, you leave iTrader feedback.
• When you trade at other forums (like disneyqueen's or DPBB) you leave feedback on those.
• When you trade face to face at events or the park, there is no feedback/References done.

Now, a few times over the last 4 years of me trading, I have had someone ask me to leave feedback at both places. (dizpins ref center and iTrader) I have even had people at the park tell me their ID and ask me to do a feedback or reference for them due to our face to face trade.

Whats your opinion on this? To me personally, one trade, one feedback, on the site that you did the trade from. Which for me, means that in the last 6 months or more, I have had NO pinpics/dizpins references given or recieved. And putting a feedback or reference from a face to face park trade on one of the sites is kind of cheating... I mean, the reference is for a mailed trade to show you follow through, so a face to face trade has nothing to do with that. but that is just my thought.

What do you all think? Whats the protocol?

If entirety of trade is done here on DPF, then here alone is where I leave the ref, however if we take it to email and I get the addy, it only takes a few moments and lets face it, they did what they said, when they said it , with integretiy and with trust,,, Im almost certain we all would agree a few moments isnt bad investment in letting others know that the trader you dealt with is worth while and honest,however for many trades here on DPF I have also left refs on DIzpins site as well<mostly decided by if I have the email of the person,>
I know from my woodland cohorts that the new PP site will have a FREE feedback feature for all members there<to eliminate the bounce to the old dizpins site>
i dont think a face to face trade doesnt warrant the feedback, likewise, does the location matter? I have left quite a few folks whom I trade in person with refs here and on Dizpins, the trade was good, they deserve a reference, esp if I know them enough to know their email, we either exchanged email after trade or I already have them in the rolodex of doom.. Perhaps its my old New England upbringing, but they did something nice for you , dont matter where or when, we should applaud good behavior whenever we encounter it!!!

Once upon a time, the Reference Center used to be used for 3 places. Dizpins, Pinpics and when the DISboards Collector Board used to be extremely active (pre-2003ish). It used to be a central reference point, not just one group's personal reference center. But now the Reference Center isn't really supported, so I can definitely see the need for recording references on multiple sites, because you never know when you wake up one morning who's (including newer sites) going to have a "site not found" error that never gets resolved. And if the point of a reference is to show that you follow through with completing a trade, does it really matter where you "met" the person?

I leave refs on dizpins and dpf only if the trade is through the mail ,let's face it ,if you trade face to face you know the trade is good ,through the mail it's diff as they are sending and hopefully following though with the trades or purchases.

I can see the point there, regardless of what forum or group, a finished mailed trade is just that.

Still not keen on the idea of a reference on a group or forum for a face to face trade. To me, the online references really are for mailed trades, and a person who you trade with at the park regularly might be one of those people who tends to take months to mail trades so they should not get good feedback for face to face stuff using an online mailing trades site.

A reference is a reference to me. If they ask and are a member here, why not? A trade was completed either way. I have completed trades in person and on other forums and left feedback for those traders here.

ok. so here is why I dont like the idea of a face to face trade getting a refernce on a forum or group site...

This guy itraded with at the park a few times... He seemed great for face to face trades. I did not know his pinpics ID at the time. At some point, during my very active pinpics trading phase, I tried to set up a trade with someone, and it went bad. The trade was set, addresses exchanged and the pins were very good quality, higher end pins, (3 of them) I sent mine, and they NEVEr sent theirs. I went through the process, made the report etc...

About 2 months later, the guy was at the park again, and while going through the book, there were the 3 pins I had sent in the mail. I didnt think they were MY pins, but i wistfully commented about having let them go recently in a trade that went bad, and the guy got all wierd. After some conversation, I became 99% positive this was the guy who had failed in the online trade. He would not fess up, but he did behave in a very suspicious manner and he did act like he knew he had been caught or called out.

Anyway, moral of the story is just because a face to face trade goes well, doesnt mean that person is an honest online trader. So posting a positive feedback on a MAILING trade site for face to face trades doesnt work for me.

Feedback for a face-to-face trade makes no sense to me. It seems to me that the purpose of references is to allow other traders to get some idea of whether someone can be trusted to (a) send the pins and (b) send authentic pins which are in good condition. A face-to-face trade tells you nothing about this.

I'm happy to leave feedback on both Dizpins & DPF, and I've asked for feedback to be left on both sites ...again this comes down to the purpose of a reference, which is to show that you are likely to be trustworthy.

I leave my feedbacks on the site I traded from. I feel that is enough. I have left feedback for face to face trades because I felt they deserved it.

Here's one...

I've traded with the same people in person, at the parks, and thru PP arranged trades, mailing the pins. Sorry for Pixies one bad experience, but that doesn't make all face to face then on line trades with the same person bad. I left them a reference for both. I don't see what is wrong with it, especially since so many people/traders are horrible about leaving feedback. People who are beginning or don't make many trades, but are excellent traders, don't get the references they need.

That's just my side of the fence. You see a lot after 13 years of in the parks and on line trading.

A bit OT, but what the crying shame is, for us who have built up years, over a decade, of references on Dizpins reference center. It's going to stink big time if that site ever goes down.
