Same pins, same offer, different responses

So I send out a Trade request to a few folks and get two entirely different answers back pertaining to the EXACT same Trade offer. I am offering an Event ONLY pin for a LE.

Response 1: Are you crazy?? My pin is an LE and yours is double the Edition size. Although mine is only obtainable from attend a high price Event, the Trader is looking ONLY at Edition size.

Response 2: I would LOVE to do the Trade, I can't believe that you are offering the Event ONLY pin for the pin you are asking for.

Same. I'm all for haggling, but if someone is going to make a rude reply with no suggestions to better the trade, they may as well just ignore the offer to begin with and not respond at all in my opinion.

Agreed. I've sent out a bunch of requests and not heard anything back. That is kind of frustrating too, but beats rude replies hands down.

I think that the standard across the board trade wise is value for value and that seems to be a fair way to trade IMHO.

I get daily offer that are ridiculous, as in my Pixaleted Ralph ($350+) for there PTN Whatever ($25). It's NEVER the other way around, someone offering a very valuable pin for a cheap one. I feel like traders making these offers are just fishing for newbies or people that don't follow pricing so they don't know what their pins are worth. I make notes of these "fishermen" in order to avoid trading with those people EVER. If you are sending out trade requests daily asking for completely upside down trades in the hopes of finding someone that doesn't know the value of their pin...you are a bad person period.

This is is not a matter of opinion and asking virtual strangers to give you the equivalent of hundreds of dollars is shady and wrong. If you and your friends make favorable trades either way that's one thing, taking advantage of people for greedy selfish reasons is not. People like this are the reason new traders RUN from the hobby. Whether it's in parks, on Facebook or via Pinpics.

Rude responses shouldn't offend you if you are trying to get over on someone. If your offer is fair by the value for value system being used by 99% of traders you won't see nasty responses. People also need to understand that after sifting through literally 50+ messages all asking for unfair trades, people get pissed off. I am to the level that I rarely respond at all anymore. In the 3+ years I have been trading I have NEVER, not even one time received a fair/equal offer on PinPics, that's beyond frustrating it's actually sad.

If your offers are fair and you have checked the sold eBay prices for all pins then try trading elsewhere. If your offers are favoring you by a margin of even $25 you are the problem and need to stop. LE, open edition, event or exclusives means nothing, what is it worth in real dollars is the only thing that matters. While that isn't always the case, for the most part it is. If someone is using PinPics they can use eBay or Facebook. If their pin is worth $50 and yours is $5 why would they do that? They can sell their pin and even after fees buy 8 of your pins.

KNOW YOUR PINS BEFORE SENDING OFFERS, it will make the trading community a better place and will put the targets on those opportunists who are giving the hobby a bad rep.

hmmm well IDK Molly, for ex. I went on ebay and got a difference of over $50 on the same pin sold ..so how can you solely rely on Ebay? its all over the place. I just barely bother trading. I'm off to sell all my traders. why cause its not fun and I don't see anything wrong with offering a WDI le 250 for another WDI le 250 and I don't think its ever ok to say something nasty to anyone about a trade offer. That sux you have not gotten ONE decent offer? How close does one have to be? I'm sure I'm making people cringe LOL oh well.

PS- I'm sure I get the short end of the stick more than not, cause after a trade i'll see "my" pin for sale on FB and its always WAYYYYYY more than I traded for $$$ wise. what do I know.

I consider myself an easy trader when it comes to slight favors for the other person and I
even then I haven't had an offer that is even in the ballpark of fair I have literally hundreds and hundreds of offers, several from the same batch of 10 or so people that send me the identical offer every single day!

Trading amongst friends (yes you sugarlips) is always easier because I think we all want to help each other for the most part. Getting offers from total strangers asking me to GIFT them $300 dollars is insane. I mean seriously what kind of douchey person asks for this? Sure Mr/Miss pin flipper I will DONATE my cash/pin to you so you can feel good about getting over on someone...um no.

Its not not fun to be in the midst of a hobby that is all about getting the better end of a deal, that's not why I got into this. I'm more of a buyer to keep but things change and I try to trade instead of sell but that rarely works out and I am back to being a buyer.

If that's your takeaway after my lengthy posts then if I understand you correctly, you think making YOU favored trade requests is a totally acceptable thing to do?

Rudeness as a reaction to the epitome of rudeness (asking for more more more more more than what you are offering) is just that , a reaction. The rudeness is justifying why anyone would have the balls to ask for such one way trades and expect anything but a nasty response. Entitlement among this crowd is never ending.

I have never been rude to a one time request, worse case I tell them that their offer is not fair. I have been a bit nastier to those that send me daily requests asking me for free money, you know my $100 pin for their hidden Mickey!

Instead of people constantly looking to blame everyone else, how about taking some responsibility for your own actions? How about thinking "would I consider this trade the other way around" If the answer is an astounding no, well don't send it. Stop being the give me give me type of person and miraculously you will be treated much better I promise. Funny how things like behavior and treatment seem to go hand in hand huh?

Perhaps I have a different perspective on the whole unbalanced PinPics offers. When I first started, I had a trader (presumably more experienced than I) make me an offer for one of my pins. I went onto PinPics and looked to see what other pins they had for trade. It turns out they had some pins I REALLY wanted, so I responded back and said "how about these pins instead".

I wasn't big on eBay, and I didn't realize I was making totally unreasonable requests. I was just eager to get pins I really wanted instead on one I only kind of wanted. Their response back to me was not only rude, but incredibly scathing. They assumed I was playing them (sharking, fishing, whatever) but I was just a newbie who didn't really have a clue.

I really wish they could have taken a more instructive path in their response to let me know what I was doing wrong (i.e., the pins you asked for were LE100 and yours is OE; the pins you asked for sell for $100+ and yours is $10, etc.). I did learn something very important from this. While I may say to the computer "Yeah right, or keep dreaming, or WTF", I never share those thoughts with the trader.

I just don't respond if I'm not interested. Lol

I have to admit that I have offered what some say would be "Uneven" trade offers before. Now I'm not talking about me offering a hidden mickey pin for a high end Disney auction pin or soda fountain pin, I'm talking about uneven LE sizes or uneven Trades/Wants values. The only reason that I do include these offers is because people value pins in different ways.
For example: If I really want a pin and somebody wants one of my pins that has a better trades/wants value or is a lower LE size but isn't a "Grail" pin then I would absolutely consider doing the trade and I actually have done this on several occasions in the past.
I've also received uneven trade requests and I normally take a look at the other persons traders to see if I find something that I would trade for the pin.
So I really don't mind receiving these kind of offers as long as they are not just plain stupid offers. I've turned bad offers into good trades several times before. Just my two cents...

I often offer trades that may seem uneven to others just to see if it would be possible. There are many times I've gotten pins I didn't think possible going on different ways people value pins. I just got a grail that way! If you never take the chance in asking I think you'll miss out on a lot of trading.

I much prefer someone just saying I'll pass or that would consider a couple pins for their one. Rudeness in response to a trade offer is never okay. There are simple ways to say no that will still get your point across and not possibly crush the other trader. You don't know them and I know I've been hurt by some responses that have been unnecessarily harsh.

It would be one thing if everyone traded the same way, but there are so many different ways to value pins.
