OK, I'm a bit irritated by this on several fronts. I had heard "rumors" of "scrappers"/counterfeits of these popular (the boxes sell out almost immediately once word of their availability spreads) pins but hadn't, to my knowledge, seen any. I looked on Pinpics and didn't see alerts. The bothersome thing about that is that when an alert is posted (and I do agree that lately it is not unusual for someone to "jump the gun" and start shouting "counterfeit" without true justification) anymore it is almost invariably met with someone (or someones) shouting "prove it, prove it, prove it!" Many of these exchanges then turn to discussions which may get removed or moved, the alerts disappear and then people are shocked when they get a counterfeit and complain that they weren't warned. I don't know what the answer is. But I wanted to pass along that I just received four of these pins in trade and NOT ONE is real! It's ugly!! I scanned pictures of fronts and backs as well as a side-by-side with a legit version. The most obvious differences are the Mickey heads and the pin trading logo (especially the "sun" part). The edges of the pins are kind of rough, too. I've never posted a picture here on the forum but I can try. (The chaser I received is also silver metal - the PP description says it should be gold!)

Anyway, the point is BEWARE trading for these unless you know they came right out of a box right from Disney. (PsychoPixie mentioned this in her thread regarding mystery boxes and R/C's). If anyone is interested, the four bad pins I received were:

Pin 95037: 2013 Pixar Mystery Collection- A Bug's Life- Flik- CHASER

Pin 95042: 2013 Pixar Mystery Collection- Brave- Harris, Hubert, and Hamish as Bears
Pin 95049: 2013 Pixar Mystery Collection- The Incredibles- Mr. Incredible
Pin 95076: 2013 Pixar Mystery Collection- Gil, Bloat, and Peach

Yeah, we actually had a post about the scrapped versions of the Pixar pins a while back, right around the time they were first coming out. A lot of people got hit with them, it's awful! If I can find the thread, I'll post the link here just so others can take a look. The thread has pics of scrapped vs good pins

It's such a shame ... I really love the set. I've only traded a few pins so far and thankfully they all seem legit. I've personally purchased about 25 boxes so far and have quite a few to trade but now it makes me a little concerned. Maybe I'll stick to trading in the parks so I can see them first hand before agreeing to a trade.

The bad ones I have seen are BAD. This is why I haven't gotten any. I'm afraid to buy them on ebay and have no other options.

Some sellers are offering the original box or part of the box ... which "could" give more legitimacy to the purchase. When I trade mine, i provide the original box and "map" that came with it. I also have the original receipts :)

I have so many for trade and all of mine are real yet everyone dismisses them because there are scrappers of the pins. The scrappers have devalued my real pins in their minds just because the scrappers exist. That is not a good way to think. You should be happier to trade for ones you know for sure are real. Mine are obviously real though, I bought them myself at Westward Ho, and compared to the descriptions of your fake ones there shouldn't be a question. But the set had bad press to begin with because it was 80 pins and they sold out instantly everytime they came out. Lots of insider info and CM whispering and people knew ahead of time.

yup... those are the four I actually recall seeing on ebay from a couple known scrap/fake dealers....

What really sucks is that someone could have bought them, and traded them away not even realizing they were no good.

As far as I now, the LE versions are safe, but the LR's have some questionable pins floating around out there.

I agree Mark, just because there are some scrap/fakes of a pin in existance, doesnt mean a person should write off all trading for the series. With Mystery boxes, in general, the fake sellers don't have the boxes, so i have taken to putting my mystery box pins on a piece of the box as a backer card. I would suggest everyone does this. It wont completely negate concerns, but it will at least show folks you bought them yourself.

I would love to trade for some, but I don't have the best traders, so my only option is to buy. And with people asking near 20 bucks and more, I just can't buy them to risk a fake, which is a shame because I LOVE them.

The LE versions are NOT safe. I almost traded for one from a cast member whom I see in DTD often. He was pretty sure that it was a scrapper but not certain. When I looked at it, you could see the streaks on the front and the Mickey backs were BAD (the heads on the back of the pin, Mickeys ears were not as round as they should be). It was a LE200 Bugs Life pin. He had it in his pocket but showed it to me (the CM retired at the end of June).

He mentioned it was one of the "regulars" who traded it to him and he was like, hmm, they usually give me cheap pins and this is supposed to be a LE200. But it still had the ODPT logo (c) Disney so he had to take it.

Yeah, I have some extras too. I always send either the whole box or a large part of the box when I trade or sell them so people know they are good. I only need 1 last one to complete my set of 80!! I need a Randall chaser still.

There are also 2 UP Scrappers
1) Chaser Russell - no eyes and light weight
2) Chaser Dug - no eyes and light weight
