Shipping HELP

Someone won one of my pins off of eBay and they just sent me a message saying they never got my pin. I sent it out on August 28th and they live in Torrance, CA. I live in Concord, CA so I am sure it's not very far. I also have delivery conformation and I checked into it and it says it was delivered August 30th.

I have proof of the delivery conformation and I have already messaged back the buyer stating proof of my delivery conformation # and information of it being sent and delivered. Now my question is, I am afraid as I have never approached this situation what should I do if this person continues to say they never got the pin and would like to receive re-fund or whatever. I just dont know what to do and I am scared of this person will probably start a quarrel with me (which I hope he doesn't).

What should I do? I feel so lost. I have never approached this kind of problem before with a package that states that it has been delivered but the person says they never got it....HELP!! :facepalm:

Hi Marcia. As long as you have the delivery confirmation # and proof on USPS.com that the package was delivered to the correct address, I don't think there's anything the buyer can do. Even if they were to file a case with PayPal/Ebay, if you have the information to send them that confirms delivery you should be ok. It's been quite a long time since I've sold anything on Ebay, but I don't remember this happening. I know there were some times when it seemed to take forever for a package to arrive, which was nervewracking, but eventually it did. Hope things work out ok for you!

This happened to me once, but through Pinpics. We did a trade, and I never received my pin. The DC said that it arrived to my city and state, however it never showed up in my mailbox. I notified the person I traded with, however I just ended up taking the loss. Things happen.

The buyer has the DC #, correct? Have him print out the shipping history, etc., and take it to his post office. Maybe they will find the package there.

BTW, if the buyer paid with a credit card, he/she can always dispute the charge with the credit card company and file an affidavit of non-receipt (or something like that). Pretty sure the credit card company will reverse the charge. So, in that event, make sure your PayPal balance is zero?!

My paypal balance is 0.00 at the moment. Here is the recent message I got from the buyer

Yeah but why don't I have it in hand then!? Nothing with your name ever came..

Now my next question is, what should I say back to the buyer in response to this question?...I feel so frustated

Hi, I have sold several things for my mom over the years, and I can say that some people are just rude, and there's nothing you can do about it. You have done your part, by shipping the item securely (I assume), and by offering and obtaining a delivery confirmation number. You are not responsible for lost packages via the post office, so I would tell them to take the information to their local Post Office and inquire as to the whereabouts of the package. The mail deliverer has to scan it after it is delivered to the exact address/mailbox, otherwise it will never read "delivered."

I had one person who received a package 3-4 weeks after it was shipped via priority mail. But the shipping updates just said "in transit," and it did not actually say "delivered" until it was ACTUALLY DELIVERED. I would either call their local post office yourself, or tell them to do so (the former if you don't trust them, which I wouldn't). However, I think that eBay might require insurance on all packages now, but I'm not sure = look into that, and see if you're liable even when a DC is provided.

It might also have been delivered to a nearby address. I have had that happen with FedEx and UPS (both). Not with pins but with other things. Sometimes things get crazy and things get delivered to a close but not quite right address. You might suggest that they check with their neighbors. If they are in an apartment complex then they might be out of luck.

Hope it wasn't a super valuable pin. I always insure anything worth more than a few $$.

It hasn't been more than 30 days either so I don't think you can do this until the 30 days are up but you can also file a claim for a lost package and the post office will go investigate it. Maybe it will turn up that way?

I think last year a similar thing happened to a member here from FL. Their many trades via Pinpics show as "delivered" but they did not get their pins. Eventually, they found out that it was their mailman's mistake.

The packages get scanned upon delivery, but technically it can be delivered anywhere in that zip code. If their neighbor got their package by mistake or something like that, it will still show as delivered. Our last mailman used to deliver our neighbors' mail to us every now and then by mistake. It happened more than once and with different neighbors. So, it is very possible that the package you got delivered somewhere else.

Here are my suggestions:

* Contact Ebay and ask what to do
* Communication is key: Talk to your buyer and tell them that you are in touch with Ebay. Also tell them to ask around with their neighbors. Is this person in an apt? If yes, there is a good chance that this package either went to the apt. complex' office or to someone else's mailbox.

I do not think Ebay/Paypal would fault you and force you to give the money back as you have delivery confirmation, but of course there is a good chance that the buyer might leave you a negative feedback.

This is a good idea. Sometimes the post office gives you the usual run-around, but hopefully with some luck you will get help.

ask the buyer if maybe someone in there house hold may have it also this has happen where they said they never got it it showed delivered, they claimed they did not have it after they looked around someone else brought it in and placed it in the house

Ok this might sound stupid but it has happened to me the wrong shipping address printed off eBay and I sent it later to find out it was the wrong address and it was. A 60$ pin and I never got it back.

This happens to my friend a lot. He's not a pin trader, but he's gotten into serious trouble due to misdelivered court papers. He lives on East Plymouth Street and there is also a Plymouth Street so his mail ends up on the wrong street all the time.
