Not sure if this has been brought up or not, but since Disney's Soda Fountain is becoming Ghirardelli Soda Fountain, could we be seeing PTDs at Downtown Disney?

I don't see why not - they have plenty of space there to handle the lines that the one on the West Coast gets, and they could be doing separate or the same releases on both coasts.
What are your thoughts on it?

Not gonna happen. The PTD's are designed and managed by the Disney Studio Store staff still. Ghiradelli is just going to sell it as an add on to their sundae's in Hollywood. Unless they build a Disney Studio Store, none of the other Ghiradelli's will get PTD's.

theres a Ghirardelli in DTD? where? Ive only seen the one in DCA.

The Ghirardelli store has locations at DTD in Florida and DCA in California. There is no store in DTD in California. I seriously doubt a store will be added to DTD in California since there's one in DCA. I think the only way there'd be a store in DTD is if the one in DCA is closed.

There are Ghiradelli stores in more places, they're not going to start selling pins just because they are at a Disney location. I've been to the original in San Francisco twice, had hot chocolate in Chicago, been in the one in San Diego. But I don't think Florida will ever get the equivalent of a DSF. The only reason Ghiradelli is selling PTD's is because it is a huge money maker for DSF and Disney wants to keep a store to be with it's El Capitan theater. So you need to supplement the income as the theater isn't cheap to own/operate. The food side of DSF was terrible and losing money. Ghiradelli probably wanted in Hollywood somewhere anyways, seems they are expanding right now (New Vegas location coming too,) so they paired up. You'd have to ask for a Disney Studio Store in Florida, not a Ghiradelli to sell pins. And unless they do huge movie launch parties and events in Florida I don't see it happening.

I don't think that would happen, IMO! First, they would either have to make more pins/larger edition sizes OR they would have to split them between multiple stores. Also, I think the pins, if made into larger edition sizes, would lose some of the hype over them because they would end up being easier to obtain for a larger amount of people causing popularity to fizzle out leaving more pins and less demand for them. I therefore think that Disney would end up losing money which they will not allow! I might be completely wrong though! :)

Look we never know what might happen, but I remember someone explaining this too me when I first started going to DSF. Dsf and DLR/wdw are governed by different rules. DSF cannot sell certain things because of their contract with Dsiney. If there were to be ptds at DTD I think we would have heard something by now or they would have done it way before the rebuild announcement to test it out. Now since it's ghiardeli the contract rules from dsf might still apply.

Who knows in the future we might see pins being sold with ice cream at dlr/wdw but possibly being called a different name and concept. For now I think gsf is the same as def and will not change where they sell ptds.

I dont think that Disney would lose money, as they dont make tons of money on the PTDs... its the resale value that skyrockets (or doesnt). I highly doubt that Disney will do PTDs anywhere else, though. it makes El Capitan/DSF a destination spot!

My point is that if they were to bring them to DTD in WDW, they could expand it as a second line of PTD. It could bring a lot of people to the already popular DTD there. Even if they didn't use the Studio Store as the "base", they could use the Pin Trader store, or the World of Disney store. And someone mentioned earlier that the people at DSF were the ones who bought and designed the pins - there's no reason why the same team couldn't expand their reaches, or a whole new East Coast team could be formed.

(And to clarify on my original post - I'm meaning DTD at WDW. The West Coast already has their original location, so there wouldn't be a reason to run a PTD-like thing at the one at DLR.)

ah I see what you're saying. I think if that were to happen in Florida then the edition size would be raised for ptrs, because I assume Dsf already had designs for another year or so. They could produce more but then the edition size would suffer and possibly the quality. Another option would be to have low end pins at the florida gsf because def owns the designs here in CA another line would have to be produced in Florida and the name/meaning would change.
