So now what? (DPP vs PP).

It would also be really cool to have the option to hide or make our collection private. I like to track my collection in pinpics but the whole world doesn't need to see which hidden mickey/booster pins I have.

Also, a way to list multiples of the same pin would be cool. For example, I have two of these pins in my collection so I can display both sides of the pin next to each other. It would be cool to keep track of the fact that I have two of them.

Another thing. Can you make a "box" to list the original movie the characters came from? Ideally, I'd like every pin of Lilo, Stitch, their ohana, and Stitch's cousins to be found by doing a search of 'Lilo Stitch'.

Same with Rabbit or Owl from Winnie the Pooh. There's no way to be sure I've found them all on pp but if I search 'Rabbit Pooh' or 'Owl Pooh' there's a whole lot of these pins I can't find!!

I think this is a great idea and I'd love to help out anyway I can.

The only problem I can see is that there are so many pins existing already that it might be hard to get some of the older, less popular ones up (that people don't really care for). However, I don't see that as too much of a problem since it seems like most people care about the new pins anyways (since that is what's in) as well as the pins that stand the test of time and are always popular (which will also be listed).

As long as it works like the old pp and DPP. So easy to use.

Would love to see the features like on old pp, where we can opt out of certain things showing up in our searches (check the little boxes), such as buttons (no offense to the button collectors) or AP/PPs. I don't collect them and so many show up when I did a certain search on DPP. Oh and to be able to save those options so we don't have to opt out every time.

Ohh and one more thing, when we search, please no symbols between words to refine a search.. = - + What a royal pain that is on the new pp. Lilo stitch palm tree is much easer than lilo+stitch+Palm+tree gads, that drives me nuts!!

I'd be more than happy to write descriptions for pins that need clean up.

I'm happy to donate my time to writing descriptions from scratch so that there's no copy/pasting from Pinpics or anywhere else, and also to taking photos of all my own pins and uploading.

I will make sure to take *new* photos of the ones I previously uploaded to Pinpics, so that there is no question of using *anything* from their site. I'd recommend this to anyone else who has ever sent them photos as well.

I'm also happy to donate time to moderating if need be.

I like the idea. Alternative sources of congregating interests groups are always nice. I have no personal grudge against PP, but perhaps healthy competition will keeps things running well and new ideas on all sites.

I don't know how to code, but I do do branding/graphic design and would be happy to help out with visual/design efforts as well as provide pictures of my pins. (I'm sure others have my same pins and can give better pictures, but I for one like being able to flip through multiple pictures of the same pin to see various angles/details/size etc.)

I agree it was the import feature and likely the use of their photos (that by TOS were their property once members uploaded I believe) that got their attention. A new site from scratch would probably be the best solution/

I say go for it! A lot of people are completists (or trying to be) of certain themes, so you can go by themes to add descriptions / good quality pictures (you should maybe watermark them?) I dont know. I'll gladly add descriptions and pictures on all BTs, Brave pins and basically every pin I have in my collection like everyone else.

Simplicity goes a long way with something like this and please make sure there are groups so it's easy to keep track of the pins!!!

I think it would be a really great idea once all of us here who are willing to contribute photos are done uploading, that we make note of the PP pins listed that we didn't get photos of, that we reach out to the other places people trade/sell pins, ebay, facebook, instagram, wherever, even trading in person, if you meet someone at an event who has some obscure pins let them know what's going on and if they'd be willing to contribute pictures. Even though it might be the most daunting task that the pin community has ever seen, it'd be worth it to end the bullying and intimidation, PP did not create the hobby, and as someone mentioned there's nothing wrong with a little healthy competition. I know we can't steal copywrighted information, but they have those giant books with existing pins, maybe we could use them as a reference to help us figure out what pins we're missing from the database? I've only ever thumbed through one, but it seems like they would have the information that PP lacks, like the release date, SKU, LE for every pin. There has to be resources out their beyond the combined knowledge of all of us here at DPF, not that we don't have a lot of knowledge.

The biggest thing I"d like to see is a picture of the front and back of each pin, definitely helps with scrappers and the silver/gold/back (AP/PP)pins. And then on the other hand a separate group or even a link that you click on of the pin that brings up pictures of scrappers, this way people will have a better idea of what to avoid.

I like this idea. To elaborate a little bit...

Sometimes I have multiple traders of one pin, but I have them stored in different books due to space issues when I may have acquired the second, etc. So it takes quite a bit of time when I make a trade double checking to make sure I still have another so I don't remove it from my trade list. That said, I do think this feature should be personal to each account, as I could see how having 10 of one pin could result in hostility towards a trader...

I've also thought some about the numbering, and it's going to be very difficult keeping a chronological numbering system where the older pins keep the lower numbers if we just start inputting information into the database. It would be very nice if the numbering system wasn't just a number, but indicative of something. For example, the first 2 numbers could be the year the pin came out, which would automatically put a chronological order on a good chunk of the pins. Then the second set of numbers could be indicative of where the pin came out... Like assigning a number to DSF, for example. Even a third for LE vs non LE... something as simple as a 1 if not LE, or a 2 if it is.

So a pin number could read 12092-589: 12 (Year) 09 (Dedicated # to DSF) 2 (LE) - 589 (589th LE pin to come out of DSF in 2012).

Just an idea...

Besides this, some crucial features should include (for the purpose of listing):

1. The Owns/Wants/Trade Ratios.
2. A compare feature.
3. A link to an Ebay Search would be nice.
4. Groups
5. Separate galleries for newly added pins and moderated/edited pins, so that new pins get their own areas for people to quickly modify their wants/trades.

I know this will increase the price of development but making it a mobile web app will for sure make a lot of people want to use it more over PP.

Let me know if any web or graphic design is needed. Will love to help.

I love the idea ! This is what i was hoping for since dpp was taken over. unfortunatly I don't have any coding/programming experience. I will do whatever I can to help with this new site. take pictures etc. I don't have a lot of pins though.

I do have photoshop, and I know how to use it. I could add watermarks to the images. I can also help with any other photoshop related things (edit images, or create images (a logo maybe?)).

I would like the links under the avatar here on DPF. that really helps to my opinion.I also think numbers representing years would be a good idea to make it different from pinpics. (ie. 04XXXXX for pins made in 2004) the other ideas for the numbering Alex said would be a little too complex. (at least something to get used to) But it is a really good idea.

I agree it could be very complex. I was thinking of that, but it would also help avoid just randomly sticking in pins with the only sort of organization being the year. We ourselves don't have to number them. Say, for example, that you want to add a pin, a questionnaire sheet comes up, you put in the description, information, year, where the pin was released, etc... then the database itself comes up with the number. Not something we ourselves have to input every single time we'd put up a pin.

I think it is best to let the database generate the pin numbers. know I think of it, the more specific numbers wouldn't be that bad after all. just a little different then the numbers we already know. I'm completly for this idea

In terms of numbers to indicate years, what about a 4-digit number with year and month. So a pin released in Feb of 2011 would be 1102 (11= 2011, 02 = Feb). This of course assumes we know the month it was released. Easier to keep up with for recent pins, but no so much for older pins.
