I don't think this is in the right place, but I was stuck with how to make a thread in the for sale/want to buy forum. In any case, I was curious about whether people purposely buy pins for other people, and then sell them for the original price plus packaging. I wasn't sure if it was just trades that was allowed on the forum and also selling older pins for their current value. In particular I was wondering about the DSF pins as I would be very interested in purchasing those (or traditional trading if possible).

Thanks for any replies. :)

FYI, the reason you're not able to post in the Marketplace section of the forum is because you have to be a member for at least 10 days (which you are) and have a minimum of 30 posts. :)

People sometimes buy extras of pins to sell and trade, and if you start your own "wanted" thread, you can work out a deal with someone for a trade or they can pick up any pins you'd like.

I see you're in the UK, be prepared to pay extra for shipping or offer UK pins in return. Soda Fountain pins are 50/50. Half the pins are crazy popular and have desirable characters the other half are just misses and end up in the rack beside the counter for months. Some people are very nice and offer to pick up pins for others. It is nice of you to offer a few extra dollars for their effort. Many people buy for out of town friends or for pretrades. Most DSF pins are LE300 or LE150 so if you factor in the pretrades, local collectors, and buying for friends there aren't usually many pins left over. Esepcially the popular characters or designs. When a popular one pops up lots of people scramble to try to get their wants. If you want to guarantee you get a pin it is best to try to buy it or pretrade for it from someone here or perhaps eBay. You are more likely to get a pin if it isn't the most popular.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I've noticed how difficult some dsf pins are to get hold of, especially the El Capitan pins it seems and the Tangled ones they did. I was lucky and got them from ebay before Tangled seemed to really explode in popularity and price. Hopefully I'll want a higher percentage of the unpopular ones than the popular though (even if I doubt it).

LOL!!! Well I wish you luck with that, ha ha, that is necer how it works, at least for me!!! :) I always want the ones that are the most desirable and hardest to get my hands on, ugh! LOL! I hope you have TONS of luck! If I lived by a Disney hot spot, I would pick you up pins in a heartbeat, and only for cost + shipping, I would not make money off anyone! Wish I lived close!!!!

It's easy not living here to say you'd just buy for others and not sell them. Then you go and stand in line for hours, pay for parking, drive half hour plus both ways, and the pins start to have a little more opportunity cost value. Then you see how many times the pin sells for double or triple. Then you see people that asked you to buy them a pin just turn around and trade it for something else. Then you stop buying for people.

Pins like the Avengers, Storybooks coming soon, Jessica LE150's are worth of an older LE. But I garuntee you no one is going to sell you their HTF old LE for their cost price. I don't get why people think just because it's new it's only worth the sticker price? Or because it's a pin trader delight which is technically a GWP is only worth a GWP pin. Uh, it's an LE300 GWP that cost $13, not a $3 PWP pin from the parks... If a pin sells out the morning of, like the Avengers pins, it is worth well more than the sticker price. Those marquee's are selling for like $65. That's a pretty desirable auctions pin or mini-grail pin at that price. But find me a person that will sell a desirable DA pin for $15 and I'll be floored. I will trade for something I really want if I can, if not, I'll probably sell my extra.

Maybe the veteran traders that already have their old pins do this. But the new traders that are trying to get their most wanted pins out of veteran traders don't have many other opportunities to get pins worthy for trade.

Its when [if ever they do] DSF has a pin with the Hitchhiking Ghosts on it that I'd go crazy for one of the pins. But it seems to be mostly movie characters etc. that are released at DSF so hence why I haven't needed one yet.

Of course... there is that new Haunted Mansion movie being made... hmmm...

That being said though a lot of DSF pins are really nice. :)

First off, I was not talking about old pins, I was talking about just released pins! And I fo not live by a Disney location that sells them anyway, so it was an "if" situation!!! However, IF I did live where I could get new releases, I would be paying for parking and waiting in line for me anyway, so if I could pick up some pins for others, to be a kind and caring person, I would most definitely sell it for my cost and shipping! It is about helping people, and a fellow collector at that, and I really do not care what MOST people do because I am not most people!!! If more people were more about helping a fellow human being than maybe this world would be a better place!!!! Maybe MOST people should learn to be less greedy!!!! So anyway, please do not tell me what I would do, because I make my own decisions and actually like just making people smile, so that would be enough extra pay for me!!!!!!

Im excited about the June releases I just hope to get the pins I want and not have to experience the horrow stories that I have heard about at some releases

Yeah I went down to the soda fountain store for the first time and I seen those story book pins that are coming out. There cool but you know that line is going to be crazy for them I wish I could get some .

More exclamations are needed to make your point!!!!!!!!!! All I'm saying is its easy to do it for nice people. Or people that can reciprocate at DLRP or WDW. Then someone takes advantage if your generosity and the nice feeling goes away. It's always easy to coach from the couch.

Guess thats where I am again different than most people, I have been taken advantage by people in all aspects of life (i.e. from helping with money to giving them a home or food), yet it does not stop me from helping all the honest people out there who did NOT screw me. It does not make me wanna go make a buck off of everyone, or screw others! There are always going to be people that take advantage, you learn to not let them do it, not charge extra from everyone who is not out to take advantage. I would rather just stop buying for one person then charge extra to others. Especially when I would be going for myself in the first place, so I would already be there, so I am not going out of my way or waiting longer or paying any more than I would other than the cost of the pins and the shipping! It is always a wonderful idea to offer some extra $ to the person picking a pin up for you, wheather this person takes it or not, and another to gouge people when you were already going in the first place! Now, I do believe it is a whole different story if you buy them with intention of selling them, but not when you are picking them up for a specific person! If you are doing this for someone, whether you have met them in person or not, they SHOULD be considered a friend, and who has to make a bunch extra off a friend. I paid $10 extra for a pin someone picked up for me, not bad, gas money, but $25, $30, $40 extra, that is robbery!

I know your story bud, and you could use a few good deals your way. All I'm saying is it's easier said them done. I sold an Avengers marquee for $35 to a stranger but they were going for $60. I don't set the going price but I'm not giving these away for nothing.

You also have to remember that people are limited to only being able to buy one or two. If he/she wants one for themselves that leaves one pin they can use to trade. And given the complete and utter lack of new cool LE pins coming out, these are the only pins they may have to trade. Sometimes you have to make it worth it to expect them to give up a potentially great trader. It's usually better (for me at least) if someone offers a trade, rather than just wanting a pick up. I try to do this for the ever-awesome UK pins that just keep coming. Then both parties are getting benefit. Mutualism:). For example, I can't make the hinged book release and no one is just gonna give up their extra set so I can have one at cost. I know this and understand. I am offering up a beloved tales pin valued at $45-$60 in pretrade for someone to get me just one book pin bc I know it would trade well for them. Gotta make it worth it for them:). now I just have to cross my fingers and toes that it all works out.

Now, once the craziness of a release is over and the pins are just available to walk in and buy, then of course offer them up at cost:).

Blah, blah, blah, yaaaaaayyyyy pins!!! goodnight:)

I think that is awesome of you! And I am sorry if it came across as if I thought you gouge people! I just meant that people should not let the few bad people in this world affect how they treat all the many good people, in any situation. I understand people need to make money, I know VERY well. I totally understand getting extras to sell to strangers and make some extra cash! If I coukd do that, I would too, LOL! Just not to people I talk to and prearranged to pick them up something. Anywho...I apologize that this blew up like it did! I just was saying IF I could, I would for her because I know how hard it can be to get decent pins at reasonable prices. I didn't appreciate being told after being taken advantage of a few times that I would change, that is just not me. Hope you have a great night! :)

I never charge anyone extra for the pins because I'm just that nice. Plus I love getting the positive rating on my iTrader. It's a win-win situation either way. On top of that, I'm out there for my personal enjoyment so why not help someone out and put a smile on their face?

That being said, I'll pick up ANYTHING from Walt Disney World as long as the recipient is in the USA. I charge the price of the product + shipping.

I TOTALLY understand that. I was just saying I would get her pins if, IF, I was even able to, for cost plus shipping. I know how hard it can be at times. I however, unfortunately, am not able to and was not saying I would do it for anyone and everyone. So, I did not appreciate being told that once I was taken advantage of a few times, I would decide to make money off people! First because it was a hypothetical situation that is not possibly going to happen, and also because who knows what I would do in my life??? Even if only allowed one extra pin, if I told a FRIEND I would get it for them, I would not charge them extra; just my PERSONAL code of friendship. Anyway, I am over it! I can not get ANYONE pins ANYHOW, LOL! Hard enough to get them for me in Colorado mountain country, ha ha!!! So its not worth even what has already been said!

Yayyyyy PINS!!!!
