Something we should add to DPF.

Hi DPF,

So I have been thinking, something we need to add is a section where you can block users from looking at a specific thread.

Let me explain. My friend was trying to find some pins for me for my birthday not to long ago. He told me not to look at the thread so it would not ruin any surprises. But what if we had a section on the forums that you could block a user from viewing the thread.
So instead of my friend saying not to look he could just block me from the thread so there would be no temptation to look.

There are both pros and cons to this.

Obviously you would not be aloud to block Moderators and there would be other rules, but tell me what you think about the idea.

It is not very often that we want one specific person to NOT read a thread. While I think its a neat idea, as seldom as it legitimately would be used it might not be worth it for the MODS/Admins to create it. I have been in a position where I cannot read a thread, and let me tell you, it is soooo tempting. However, much like a birthday or christmas present, opening the wrapping to peek before it's time would kill the surprise.

I think that since it is not a regular occurrence, it is just best to keep it a standard thread and put a note in the title, the way it has been done. We just need to have faith that the "forbidden" user doesnt read the thread about them.

its tough. though the idea for friendly things like presents and ZAPs would be easier and make the surprises bigger

it could be easily abused and have severe backlash. i think if it did get the go ahead, it would have to be HEAVLY moderated and only in one section for Birthdays and Zaps ( mainly to help mod)

dont want to cause any drama AT ALL just my thought

Drama is something i had not even thought of Hollie/Karl! OMGoodness... Could you imagine? Seeing a 6 page thread that people are obviously freaking out in but your blocked from viewing it??? Wowza!!!

IF they did this perhaps it could be a sub-forum of the Zaps? And maybe still put in the title for that specific ID not to try to read? I know if I was opening a thread and suddenly got a "blocked" messege I would be kinda wierded out. lol a warning in the title would be a good idea.

Yeah, I love the idea, but I think it could be abused and used to talk about someone behind their back. Like you would make a thread that pretty much calls them out WITHOUT their name, and then just block them so nobody knew who you were talking about. I could see it getting ugly if that person found out
