LOL, you are way behind some of us. I realized when I was 12 that Yensid was Disney spelled backwards. Glad you got tired enough to figure it out. Now.....are you adding him to your collection (lol). That's what ususally happens to me when I "make a discovery".

Who is Yen SId?

The Sorcerer, in Fantasia. The one Mickey takes the hat from

Oh okay, thanks Bronco. Never seen Fantasia.

You most definitely need to see it. It is the best movie ever made and for it's time was way ahead of technology. It was originally shown in theaters by invitation only and was a very formal affair. It's worth renting the DVD to see it. It has been "edited" over the years and I was fortunate enough to see the original film. It's an incredible movie.

You have to be in a certain 'mood' to 'watch' Fantasia.. The good thing about DVD's is that you can easily go to the next part. I love the parts of Fantasia with Chernabog AND when The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Mickey, gets the broom to carry the buckets of water.. You can watch this on YouTube..

Oh, and my daughter is the one that told me that Yen Sid is Disney spelled backwards. :)

Disney editing drives me insane! While some of the harder to find cartoons have come out uncut in the now defunct Disney Treasures series, such as Education for Death, while little cuts from Steamboat Willie and Fantasia continue (let's not even discuss the entire absence of Song of the South).

Disney really needs to release these uncut classics and, if necessary, put a disclaimer on the front explaining that sensabilities were different when X was originally released.

Oh yeah, and do go watch Fantasia. Even with the tweaks it's absolutely amazing!

The only edit I know of is the removal of the character named Sunflower (I think that was her name) from the Pastoral Symphony. Has there been any others from when you first saw it?

Yea, and that edit needed to happen imo. No getting around that issue, and it shouldn't have even been put into the movie in the first place.

I wish they would release SotS. Although people see it as racism, from the little I've seen of the film, it doesn't appear racist at all. Brer Rabbit needs to live on (along with the wonderful "Everybody Has a Laughing Place" song) :)

Thanks for making me feel even stoop-id-er everyone! But in my defense, I only recently found out his name with my alphabet scrapper ordeal :p For everyone that hasn't seen Fantasia, I suggest watching it. For then you will be able to call yourself a true pin trader! ;)

Haha, I probably would have never realized this if you hadn't pointed it out! I'm not a big Fantasia fan though, so maybe that has something to do with it...

I don't get how they can remove racism from one film in but leave it another. That song in Dumbo where the men are building the tent is incrediblt racist, but it's never ever been changed. It's a bit weird how that was allowed to stand, but Sunflower from Fantasia and Songs of the South as a whole were censored. Personally, I think people could handle both Sunflower and Songs of the South these days. It seems a shame that I own Fantasia on video, DVD and Blu-Ray, but none of them are the film in its entirety. I've seen the scenes with Sunflower, and it's a real shame that they chose to make her as offensive as they did, as the scenes are otherwise just as lovely as the rest of the segment.
