I just realized the character Yen Sid from fantasia is named after Disney lol I swear, the things you come up with when you're tired
Who is Yen SId?
Oh okay, thanks Bronco. Never seen Fantasia.
It has been "edited" over the years and I was fortunate enough to see the original film. It's an incredible movie.
The only edit I know of is the removal of the character named Sunflower (I think that was her name) from the Pastoral Symphony. Has there been any others from when you first saw it?You most definitely need to see it. It is the best movie ever made and for it's time was way ahead of technology. It was originally shown in theaters by invitation only and was a very formal affair. It's worth renting the DVD to see it. I don't get how they can remove racism from one film in but leave it another. That song in Dumbo where the men are building the tent is incrediblt racist, but it's never ever been changed. It's a bit weird how that was allowed to stand, but Sunflower from Fantasia and Songs of the South as a whole were censored. Personally, I think people could handle both Sunflower and Songs of the South these days. It seems a shame that I own Fantasia on video, DVD and Blu-Ray, but none of them are the film in its entirety. I've seen the scenes with Sunflower, and it's a real shame that they chose to make her as offensive as they did, as the scenes are otherwise just as lovely as the rest of the segment.Yea, and that edit needed to happen imo. No getting around that issue, and it shouldn't have even been put into the movie in the first place.
I wish they would release SotS. Although people see it as racism, from the little I've seen of the film, it doesn't appear racist at all. Brer Rabbit needs to live on (along with the wonderful "Everybody Has a Laughing Place" song)
