I bought the Mike "an eye for pins" pin off of Ebay and when it came in I found it to be a scrapper pin (Mikes eye was looking the wrong way). I contacted the person and explained the problem and they were very nice about it and said for me to send the pin back and they would refund my money. I saw another pin that they had for sale and asked if we could just swap the pins out, she agreed (She seemed to be a very nice person and very understanding). I just got this other pin in today and wouldn't you know it, it's a scrapper too. Man am I bummed!! I sent her another email explaining the problem with this pin and just told her that I would take the loss because shipping these pins back to her is just getting to be too expensive. I also told her that she needs to check all of her other pins she is selling to make sure they are not scrappers also or she might start getting alot of negative feedback.

I am now going over to the zapping section to post an incredible zap that I also got today that put the biggest smile on my face!! This zap made my day all better again!!!

I got a scrapper on eBay, and I requested my money back, and she wanted me to ship the scrapper back to her. I declined. the description was a lie, so why should I be out the money for shipping? I will just leave negative feedback.

File with PayPal and get your money back! 2 scrappers? I would guess they know they are selling scrappers! I would also leave feedback letting people know the person is selling scrappers. You should not have to pay shipping when someone sends you a scrapper!

Did you try escalating it to Ebay's Resolution Center?

One of the last scrappers I got from ebay, I reported to ebay and they made me pay to ship it back to the seller in order for me to get my refund. So I paid to ship it back and the seller refused to accept the package and returned it to me! Ebay (and PayPal) then argued since I hadn't returned the package, they wouldn't refund me. So I had to deal with my credit card company to get a credit for my purchase (which I shouldn't have had to do with all of ebay's "buyer protection" policies). But I was still out that extra shipping money and ebay never did anything to help me or ban the seller who I reported as selling fake pins and left a negative feedback for.

I don't trust ebay or PayPal to help at all now.

The last scrapper I got from ebay, I returned to the seller (even though he had a no return policy) when I went to dispute in in ebay's Resolution center. I am out the $2 for shipping but I got the rest of my $ back (including the shipping fee I paid to him), so it's better than being out $20

I got a scrapper Pocahontas once and I MESSAGED the seller and they gave me a refund without having to return the pin, I still left bad feedback to warn people that they are selling scrapers and fakes as genuine pins!

I got a scrapper before I just told eBay that I dont feel like I should have to pay to ship the time back so I asked them to refund my money & I was able to get my money back

Just remember that just because you think a pin is a scrapper doesn't mean it is one. I was accused of selling a scrapper but the pin was directly purchased by me from Disney Auctions. It was a legit pin. But the person swore it was fake even though I knew otherwise so I just had them send it back and I refunded their money. Then I blocked them from bidding on any more of my auctions ever.

So be very careful about being overly paranoid. That pin you think is fake may in fact be the real thing.

That actually happened to my mom as well. She sold a pin that she purchased directly from the Disney Soda Fountain. Some of the newer DSF pins have a slight border on the back of pin where the ice creams don't go all the way to the edge. She told the buyer the pin was genuine, but he/she was too leary and wanted to return the pin anyways.

Sorry this happened to you though. When my mom and I first started, we were buying some of the lots off ebay not realizing they were fake :( We were sad when we found out and then we had to start all over. Hope the situation gets resolved for you :)

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you :( I had a similar incident recently from a big eBay seller a few weeks ago, they didn't even reply to my message or acknowledge the situation. I eventually opened a case with PayPal and had it resolved but it left me suspicious of eBay sellers >.<

Oh wow. Ive never heard of them not standing behind protecting the buyer.

And to OP - thats a bummer. I hope you got it squared away.

This pin is exactly as they describe the scrapper pin on pinpics. That is what I am going off of.

Tony, if you have not left feedback yet, wait and see if she relists the pin you sent back. I have a suspicion she knows she is selling scrappers. If it reappears then leave her negative feedback.

I got a lot of scrappers from eBay back in the day before I started doing research. Thankfully no big lots, though!

Even today it's tough when sellers just use the pics from PinPics instead of actual photos. Do you take a risk? Or ask for more close-up photos? I find most sellers are okay with posting more photos, but I've been ignored quite a few times too.

Hope you get it all sorted out!

They left me completely in limbo - forced me to pay for return shipping, then when seller marked package "return to sender" and wouldn't accept it back, ebay/PayPal refused to consider the item returned and wouldn't refund me! That's why now I don't trust ebay/PayPal at all. I spent hours on the phone with them and they were impossible to deal with. I even sent them photos of real vs. fake and why the colors were all wrong on the pin - they didn't care and did nothing to the seller. Don't trust that ebay will protect you because they won't.

This is very true :/ I took a chance on a seller with 100% feedback with over 1,000 sales who just used pinpics photos and they turned out to be scrappers. I'm not sure if it was deliberate but this is a person who deals in grails and rare pins and who's clearly not a novice. It's hard for me to see it as an honest mistake but I know it can happen.

I take original photos of the front and back of the pins I sell when it's time to "thin the herd". I've had 2 people say I sent them severely damaged pins (that were wrapped in bubble wrap, scratched and dented?) and 2 people say I sent them scrappers (when I was the original owner). I said they could send them back but they never did and they left negative feedback for me. So irritating.
