Trader meanies
every time i try to trade i get asked for pictures and autographs and they ignore the trade so i come across as a meanie all I want to do is trade a pin like a normal boy
someone told my husband that AP and PP only count in the events, not the real world

No please, your feedback was amazing. My husband and I have been trading for almost a year now but we had to become experts fast because of people like that. The lady who traded the Marie pin to me made the pin sound like it was LE of 100, please I can still go online now and buy it. She wanted 2 of my AP pins. AP is one of 25, way rarer then any regular pin. PP one of 3, amazing. The man who said that to my husband, well it boiled our blood too. What does that even mean?? What, they somehow become less valuable/more common outside an event? If he means events are one of the few places you can get your hands on them, then I agree. And thank goodness for events or i wouldn't have any! But if he is suggesting they should be treated like common pins, or trade at the same level as their non-AP/PP counterparts, I for one disagree. Especially PP. I realize a lot of people don't collect/trade them and that's one thing, (I personally only do the first and not the second) but very different from trying to talk them down in a trading situation. My 2 cents.
And I agree that there are some meanies out there. I especially remember how much the "Trade with you? Trade my awesome pin for anything you could possibly have? Hah!" attitude from when I first started collecting many years ago. That made me only collect and not trade for my first few years. And it still very much annoys me when someone says to a casual trader "Hmmm...That's a "common" (rare) LE you got there, but I have this "special" (common) HM that's "hard to find" that I might be willing to trade to you because I am nice". Way to completely ruin the hobby for those just starting out. But we all know those sorts of people will get what's coming to them in the end. You reap what you sow!
Sorry for being so excited. I have been watching this thread and debating whether or not to comment but obviously it ended up striking a nerve. I'll calm down now.:soapbox:
My pet peeve is some of the people who have their collection/traders as the same book, it's just frustrating when ALL the pins in my book are for trade, but everything I like of theirs is their "keeper" but there's no way to distinguish unless they say that.
I also hate the ones who pick something OE, or with a really high edition size from your book, then pass you theirs and it's all Soda Fountain, WDI, and DA pins, which any of them are no where near the same value of the pin they want from you. You ask if there's anything else they want from you, and they say no. I've honestly responded, well I don't know why you're asking to trade, since you're just going to laugh at me if I ask for anything in your book. They're usually a little off guard by that, and take their pins and go. I think they just want to show off.
Lots of meanies at Disneyland today, and people with books full of scrappers. We chased off a trader who was trying to scam a day guest into buying brand new pins, in exchange for scrappers. We stopped and told the woman what scrappers were. The trader was pissed at us, but they were very obvious scrappers and it's wrong she was trying to scam this woman for real pins.
Did you go to DLR this weekend?

Just today. It was way too hot and the pin trading was discouraging.
Ahhhh!!! I was there the week prior to you guys and the trading was so bad, nothing put scrappers on every board and lanyard, and people were trying to cut in front of some of the board lines. I hate when people do that!!! I usually find 1, just 1 good pin and I wait in line with people who are buying and also looking at the board(people are buying pins and trading at the counter so it's a line!!) and every time I mention a pin to my sister someone tries to slide in front of me to get it. ROAR!! I snap hard at people like that, then they act like they "didn't know" BS!!!!! They have bags larger than mine and 3x as many lanyards on their body, BS They know pin trading rules!!!! They just thought no one was going to bark at them for doing it, I see how they're looking around to see if anyone notices. That really makes me mad, especially because I'm with my sister and no one is going to crush her pin dreams on my watch...Same here! I went yesterday when it was cooler and I didn’t even bother trading. I could see what was on most people’s lanyards and I wasn’t impressed

I agree completely with you, I'm always vulturing around my sister and mom when people come and ask them for trades, they only CM and board trade so I have a no people trade rule with them, they aren't allowed unless I have said Ok. I can tell with some people they start getting uncomfortable with me, which usually means they're trying a lopsided or scam trade with them.Good for you for saying something!! I can’t stand people like that. That’s what makes it difficult to trade or even buy in park. The pin community has really taken a turn and the amount of scrappers is astonishing. My wife isn’t a pin collector and I had to explain to her why I wasn’t trading with anyone and didn’t even bother to bring my lanyard that day. There were plenty of people with albums and even full vests of pins, but I could tell by their demeanor when people approached them that some were obviously difficult traders.

I didn't even know about "sharks" before DPF, and I didn't know what they looked like or anything. Sockgnome was kind enough to point one out to me when I went to trade with Starry_solo, it really helped me identify what kind of people they generally may be.I really feel for the newer pin traders that went because you just knew that sharks were preying on them because they would be least likely to tell between a scrapper and a real pin.

Don't worry! My DoomBoard is halfway finished, I'm waiting for a few more things in the mail so I can complete it. I found some other fakes/scrappers i didnt know were faked yet, now I just need the real pin so I can put them side by side, and more Tsum' s, they should be here some time this week, the others may come in over the weekend or next Monday.Yeah, I'd definitely be too intimidated to even approach a group of traders at a park. Especially with me not recognizing scrappers/fakes all that well.

I've noticed the people with the vests that look like little Disney Biker Gangs are super difficult and many of them are really premadana and super melo-dramatic, they act like you're some peasant who has no business even speaking with them, and the way they act when they look at the boards is absolutely ridiculous, like someone just killed their pet or something. They're super loud about it, every one knows there is a bunch of scrappers why you acting surprised!?! People who don't trade usually come up as ask me if most pin traders are that way -______- makes us look bad.
I had to move all my LE/LR trades to one bag I dont like keeping them in the same place as the OE and HM's anymore and I have a smaller one for everything else, and a page for little kids (only time I willingly take a scrap tradebut it's ok it makes them really happy) its a little of a hassel but it keeps poopy people away since it doesnt look like i have anything pricey or rare.
I try not trading so much at the parks with people, but I will say there are a few people who do come often who I have traded with that are very nice and have similar trade philosophies. I even met someone who goes around taking scrappers and putting real pins down on the boards... I think she may be a pin angel..
