Last Sunday we went for a lovely day trip to SF and visited Walt Disney Family Museum. I learnt a ton more about this incredibly talented man who had the courage to make his visions a reality. The museum project was led by his only living child, Diane - who is 79 yrs old now.

Unfortunately, due to copyright reasons visitors are not allowed to take pictures in the main galleries. There are actually very few spots when I was allowed to take pictures and even then no flash was allowed. The following pictures are taken by me, in my own attempt to bring you a little bit more Disney Magic.

This is the entrance on 104 Montgomery Street. We were incredibly lucky to score street parking.

If you thought you missed your photo-op with Walt, I beg to differ:

This museum has nothing to do with the big Disney Corporation we know. The project belongs to Disney Family Foundation. Hence, the story told here is about Walt's life and family starting with his ancestors.

I always thought that he was of Irish origin, so I was rather surprised to find out he is actually of French descent as well.

Of course we all know that he won megazillion numbers of honors, medals, certificates, awards. Here are his Oscars:

Sorry about the reflection in the glass.

And this is a super cute special Oscar given to him in 1938 for Snow White:

These furnishings were taken from their apartment in Disneyland. Red, red, red ....

There is also a nice view of Golden Gate Bridge, but that Palm tree totally cramped my style:

The museum shop does not carry any merchandise about anything made beyond 1966 (when Walt passed away). I wanted to get something with Jas for Chloe and there was none, sorry Chloe

On the other hand, there were many many things that could make Margaret happy

I don't know why, but I always liked mice mice:

And now for the pins (I apologize for less than par pics, but they were about to close, so I had to hurry)

So, there are limited number of characters and not many exciting pins as no movie/character created after 1966 was in the museum shop as I metioned before.

These are the only 2 pins I got for myself.

The vintage Snow White pins have so sloppy paint job with uneven paint and major scratches. Not sure if that is due to the "vintage" effect? I am sure if I were to receive it in the mail from Ebay instead of buying it in person, I would indeed cry "scrapper".

~~ THIS IS ALL. THANKS FOR LOOKING ~~

Disclaimer: I am not doing this because anybody asked me to, paid me for it, or promised any other gainful return. I went for a trip and wanted to share here is all. Pictures are mine, text is mine and most importantly pins in the last picture are mine

Yes, please post pictures. When we do go west, we never go towards the north. We only head south to Disneyland lol.

My eyes offically turned green. I will get there darn it! I love when i catch WALT THE MAN BEHIND THE VISION, on bio channel. It was just on...2 hours from his birth to his passing. I also LOVE in Hollywood studios the walt disney studio tour. They changed it a bit, they used to have alot of real working artist right there, behind glass working. I toured it when they were working on Mulan. It changed a bit, alot more on walts youth--really cool.

I feel so naive!! I didn't know that there was a WD museum!! How fabulous! I have to go to this whenever I manage to get over to the states. You guys are so lucky!!!

That Snow White Oscar really is adorable! A trip to that museum is a must, it looks so cool.

I don't actually collect anything from the Sleepy Hollow animated film but that pin of Ichabod and Katrina looks really awesome. I did like the movie, maybe if it ends up on Pinpics I'll add it to my wants list.

I can't wait to go there! Thanks so much for posting the pix. I do have a couple of those pins. I think they are really nice! I guess it makes sense that they wouldn't sell pins past 66, but I think there are so many great films and shorts from before then anyway. Where are Pinocchio and Peter Pan?? :wiggle:

Nice! I go to school there a block away! So pretty much go there everyday afterschool... love the vintage disneyland posters everywhere

OH MAN!!! Thanks so much for the pictures. I have got to get my hands on those Peter and the Wolf and Headless Horseman/Ichabod Crane pins. I am calling the museum to ask if I can order over the phone. I must have them!

We need more threads like this with photos of the pins for sale everywhere. Not only for current reference, but for historical value. Can you imagine how cool it would be if someone started posting photos of the Disneyland gift shop from the 1960's? I love stuff like that.

^agree!!
