I am sorry, I am going to go on a bit of a rant. I went to DLR DTD Pin Traders just when they were refreshing. There were a couple of the 2011 wave 2's on the adult lanyards and a bunch of other fakes, cuties, starters etc. Another lanyard just had a bunch of older hidden mickeys that are mostly unwanted at this point. Very disappointing. I decide to have a look at the kids lanyard, although I can not trade with it, and I see that it has been refreshed with an Alice Diorama pin and a DLR Postcard Pinocchio pin which were both APs. And it was covered in the 2011 Wave 2 hidden mickeys. What the heck!?

Why are cast members covering the kid lanyards with tons of good pins and hardly putting any decent ones on the regular lanyards? On purpose! It seems very rude to me. Like they don't want anyone over 12 to be able to trade. We get the garbage. And we are the ones who are forking over our money to pay for our passes, merchandise, pins, etc.

I understand it is great for the kids to get nice pins and all of that. It just seems unfair to me. Most kids do not even know or care about the newest hidden mickey pins or AP pins. I don't know how many times I see a kid pass up a really great pin to trade for a toddler princess.

And most parents who are pin collectors and traders just make their kid trade for one the parent wants from the kid lanyard. How is that fair?

I guess I have to drag a kid around the park with me to get some decent pins. Does someone want to let me borrow their kid? :naughty:

I was just really annoyed and frustrated. What do you guys think? Would love to hear your thoughts. Maybe I am over reacting? I dunno... :dunno:

THATS FUNNY,,,,i didnt even know about the green trader lanyards at WDW til recently....i agree with you, IF they truly are doing it on purpose. I find many of the cast members have no idea about pins, abd they are just required to wear them like a uniform....but my own crazy kids over the years traded really nice expensive pins for lanyard basics and stuff (this was before i traded and just saw what i paid) lol
so that is kinda crappy,,,you gotta work it, and give i little gift pin to a cool kid with a lanyard and then ask them to do a trade for you!! lol creepy.

I thought about that. But it is creepy! I just can't get myself to do it. Besides, there were no kids around...

If i worked at Disney i would ONLY wear a kids lanyard. Iv seen first hand how a lot of pin traders are rude and just overwhelm CMs at time. I see managers walk out from in back with a lanyard full of new HMS and one group of traders take Everything before he evens makes it to main street and than in no way will children even have a chance to complete their sets that want. Not saying its right to clutter a kids lanyard with all the good stuff but i dont blame them.

Maybe it's just because since less people can trade on them, we see good pins on them more because there are less people trading for those good ones?
Like, if all lanyards get refreshed at the same rate through out the day, since less people are trading on the kids lanyards, the 'good' pins stay on there longer and more often.

Also, it depends on the cast member. I've had a cast member with a kids lanyard say, they'll trade to anyone who has an honest face. Other CMs will be really picky and not let you look at all at a green lanyard.

ew really? again, i think when i go to disney world i must be in a happy bubble, cause i never see stuff like that, in fact i feel people are super kind and polite?? i'd kick em in the shin.! so i get the kid lanyard thing.

It bugs me because Disneyland is known for the line "Where you never grow up". There shouldn't be specific lanyards for kids if they are trying to promote this idea of being young at heart forever. I'm not kidding. A bad pin trading experience, even for an adult, can make someone sad And they call it the "Happiest place on Earth"?!?!

hmmm... after reading all this stuff i say....... ^ ^ ^ +1 ^ ^ ^ I for 1 want to keep feeling like a kid when I go to wdw and there shouldn't be different lanyards for kids and adults :/ Just like when My Hubbie and I went to the Princess store behind the castle, I LOVED getting Dusted with Fairy Dust just like ever other little girl.

I personally like kid lanyards, but then again, being with my kids when I am at the parks doesn't stop them from being tradable for me, hence I have my own family related, selfish reasons to like them. Personally, I think kids get ripped off the most by the fake pins...It seems like that's all my kids ever get, and they know the difference, which results in sad kids. Adults shrug it off, and trade them back...I'm not sure if any of you have cried when it's the last day of vacation and the final hidden mickey pin you wanted and finally find, ends up being fake....Just saying, been there, done that, had to deal with it...There are always collectors that will reach over kids heads to try and trade through kids (if someone does that with my kids, they'll pull back a bloodied stump), or kinda bully them out of the way, so I like the idea that there are lanyards that are restricted just for the kids. My boys get totally jazzed when they see those green lanyards ona cast member's belt. And my kids do get excited when they pull an AP pin off a lanyard, and they prize those ones the most, I can't even get them to trade them back to me, lol.
Here is a little insider's secret if you are overly frustrated by the green lanyards...You can ask cast members to trade pins from one lanyard to another, cast member to cast member, effectively circumventing the no trade policy if there's one you just gotta have...

Although it has worked for me many times in the past, that loophole does not always work. Some cast members just won't do it. But it seems like they are just in a bad mood to begin with and that is why they refuse. This was definitely the case today. Which is why I did not even try.

I trade with the cm with the green and red lanyards only for kids all the time its nice when you are there 3 times a week and they know you. I also get the vista card only pins and i don't have the vista card and the vacation club pins

I guess my daughter and I have to start looking at the kid lanyards a little closer. So far, I don't think we have ever seen anything on a kid lanyard that we couldn't get from a regular lanyard. Until now, I thought it was kind of pointless to have a special lanyard for kids when we find the same pins that can be found on every other lanyard. My daughter would love to find an AP pin.

YES I heard of the loophole as well, personally I think it stinks..thats me thinking of course
if a CM trades another CM for a pin for someone that wanted a "GOOD"pin off a childs lanyard
and then that person could be giving the "CM"trading..a scrapper..theres alot of those ppl running around the parks
NOT all mind you,but some..and I personally feel that the kids trade too,and I think the kids should trade with a CM with a kids lanyard only
on,& if they wanna trade with an adult for the pin they are trading they can"With their parents"supervising of course! Its the fun of watching the children interact
with the CM's and I personally love watching their eyes lite up when they trade for a great pin..that is what keeps me young !I always give children a pin
when I see they wanna trade!I never wanna trade back hardly at all.Judy

At WDW the lanyard is considered part of the costume and a lot of the CMs have to wear a lanyard who would rather not. I've noticed the CMs that really don't like to pin trade wear green lanyards and aren't very nice to adults looking at the lanyards, but there are also nice CMs wearing green that are happy to trade with adults. I guess it depends on the CM. I've seen a lot of rude pin trading behavior in the parks, so I I can't really blame them.

At Disneyland there are barely any lanyards left. No one wears a lanyard due to rude guests. It seems like the rude guests or Pin Sharks ruined the magic that pin trading once was.

And thats horrible too, that they do not trade much anymore
its the fun of the hunt..not for LS just to chat with them...
I love asking how their day is going...and so on

Judy

I traded a CM for a 2011 wave 2 Nemo Monorail Completer off a kids lanyard the other day at Westward Ho. I was very polite and waited for everyone else to clear out. I gave her a non-completer 2011 Wave 2 to replace it so I felt a little better about it. I too see many good pins on kids lanyards and can't get them but watch a parent with a 5 year old walk over and instruct the kid to take that one. I just move on. I usually don't get too upset unless I see said parent then at the trading tables later that day and they are trying to take advantage of people. I've even seen people with walkie talkies send their kids out to go find new pins. They radio back to see if dad really wants it or not. It's more of a business to those people. They swap up to sell for profit, not for fun.

Thanks for everyone's responses so far. And I can understand all of your points of views. Kid lanyards really don't bother me for the most part. I do see the occasion where a parent is coaxing the child on which pin to trade for. And in some rare occasions I have seen a cast member refuse the trade since it was not the child that was picking the pin. I have also seen some angry parents at that point. So much for the innocence of a kid lanyard I suppose.

The thing that really bothered me about this specific instance in my original posting was the fact that the cast members had just refreshed as I got there and didn't put a single AP on any of the 3 adult lanyards and were very sparse with the HMs. In comparison to the 1 kid lanyard which was covered in HMs and had at least 2 APs on it.

You must not have been to the park lately - I went lanyard trading on Sunday and SCORED!!!!! I got a c n d Happy Easter AP, and LE 300 DSF Angel Valentines pin, Two vinylmation chasers - one from the nightmare set and then the chick from holiday 2, I got a lot of the wave 2 hms, and a handful of pins from NYC - it was amazing!!€! I had never seen so many lanyards EVER!!!! It was great - It renewed my lanyard excitment for sure - I think the last time I had lanyard traded before this was back in September . . . . might have to start going after work once in a while :0)

As for childs lanyards sometimes they stink - and I agree that it reminds me I'm not a kid anymore - which I have told to cms before. Once in a while a cm will let u trade and sometimes they wont . . . so I don't really like them, but I bet if I had kids I would like them lol . ..
