Be been watching and wanting to participate in the auctions here on DPF for a while now. They're almost non existent though. This used be the most fun thing to do here. Not even that long ago. I guess folks are scared to post a really good pin for fear of being stuck with pins not equivalent in value in the end. It use to not be that way though. Folks were really into it. I've been using fb auctions some but that's always for cash. Sometimes I just want to do pins. You know? I'm taking a leap of faith!!!!!

IM GOING TO START AN AUCTION THREAD TODAY FOR A LIMITED EDITION PIN.

I want to invite everyone to jump back on board and have fun with it. Let's make it fun again. In the past, even if I didn't have anything to offer, I loved watching all of the fabulous pins being auctioned.

Thanks for letting me talk about the auctions here.

Right now i have noticed the holiday lull is still taking a while to end here on dpf. Most people are away from the computer during this time... hope they all slowly start heading back to dpf.

I will be checking your auction out.

I always check out the auctions. If it is something I collect, or my family collects, I'll bid. I am hesitant to bid if I go to Pinpics and we have zero matches.

Great. I'm so glad. I don't know. I've been checking out the auction page for a while even before the holidays and it just isn't the same. I hope it can become fun again.

Ccofrr13, please don't let that stop you from bidding with me anyway. My wants and traders are NEVER updated although I try. But I have ALOT of likes though. Lol.

Last ones I was watching had all kinds of bids. Even got to the point that other members would bid for the friend they want to win more. It was kind of silly. Not sure when things slowed down, but if you have a good pin and set up some good rules. You will have fun again and maybe get a few cool pins.

I wonder if the rules on this forum could be altered or updated so that the person putting the pin up for auction would be better protected? Perhaps if the auction is for an LE, then all bids had to be equivalent. Just a thought. Maybe something like that would encourage people to participate again.

Not sure what the rules are. But maybe have the sell price be the same or more. So that would make all the pins the same price when they started and will keep cheep pins from being bid. Just a idea.

I love pin auctions! I always look. If it's something I want, I'll bid. If it's not something I collect, then I don't. It's nothing personal!

I put up auctions now and then if I have something I think people will like, but it has to be when I have time to monitor it, and the several months of the holiday season just haven't left me much time for that.

When the social media thing took up DPF kind of died. I forget what release it was but all of a sudden pin releases were all over social media. Instagram seemed first then FB. I think the Anna PTN was a big event but maybe it was even before that happened.

I miss the days when auctions here had 50 or so people watching at the end to see what was offered. Or the day of release someone tossed up the best pin of the day. I did get tired of seeing all the stupid "Should I auction this pin" posts. Gauging interest while just clogging up the boards. Also was not fond of the pre-bidding, ie pre-bidding a pin that wasn't even sold yet.

Used to be fun to hang in chat for a while too. Kill some time, get some scoop. But I don't see it ever really returning to what it was now that FB rules the social interaction. Gone are the days of anonymity (not that my identity was hidden...) But it was fun to find out who was who.

I will assign some blame to the death of Pinpics trading. 20% of blame went to social media and 80% went to Pinpics leadership. But their changes probably even fueled the change to social media. Man I miss the days of waking up at 6am and instantly flipping to my email on my phone to see what offers were given, in the hopes to be the first to reply. These days it's just photos of Have and photo's of ISO and people have the same crap everyone else does and want the same high end pins noone is trading. Oh well.

I agree totally with yall. I think fb really did take over. I enjoy fb but really miss DPF. I really miss the auctions here where no money is involved. Just pins. I agree I think when the whole Pinpics thing happened, the decline started. I don't even know the status of pinpics any longer. I do still log my pins and wants there. I hope folks will give the auctions a try again.

Are there any FB groups where people just talk about pins? I am on a few, but it does seem to be just posts of pics of traders or sales.

I think the one I'm a member of is called Disney Pin Trading. If I remember correctly, it's a closed group. But once you submit a request, it's approved quickly. They have pin auctions but it's for money not pins like her on DPF. Also, you have to be a VIP member in order to conduct an auction so not everybody can do it. However, I think anyone can become a VIP member for a rather large pin contribution or a cash contribution. I'm not real sure. I remember reading something like that on there. It's fun but I'm not always in the position to do monetary auctions all the time.

You/Someone/I could start a pins for pins auction group where people can only offer pins. But one of the key things with that and why auctions worked here is you could instantly see what your pinpics trades to their pinpics wants matched. Now, most newbies don't have a pinpics or haven't heard of it and the others aren't keeping theirs up to date. So. Maybe if it caught on though people would update their pinpics more often and just post their username in the auction FYI.

Oh I know. I really like the pin for pin auctions. I think they're so much fun when lots of folks participate. When it's the same three or four people doing it all the time, it gets a little old and not too exciting. I remember when designer princess pins were up for auction. Man, I had nothing to compete with but it was amazing to watch the auction. Oh for those days again. So much fun.
