ETA: The poll refers to how long should it take a person to take it to the mailbox, post office, etc.

Just curious what others think. Trying to determine at what point I should contact the person I traded with (not on DPF).

In my opinion if you're not shipping within a couple days thats fine....but let the other person know when you will (and stick with it)

Honestly - a month after the pin is said to have been sent. I know as an international trader that sometimes, for who knows what reason, parcels get held up and can take what seems like forever - though most of the time it gets there in the end. I suppose patience is necessary, though over a month is worrisome.

Oh sure! International is unpredictable. In my experience USPS within the US is pretty quick (well, first class and priority are, parcel post forget about it).

I say two weeks. As a full time student with two jobs, it is difficult for me sometimes to gain access to the post office. My school is located in a really shady area, and the "school post office" is honestly laughable, they loose packages all the time and I don't trust them with someone else's pins. When I go to my home town, I go to go to work at the Disney Store, and then I come back and do homework non stop (usually). The post office closes at 12 and usually I'm at work then anyways, so its extremely difficult to find the time. Some people don't have their own means of transportation either. I used to not have a car, so I know the pain of relying on someone else to take you to the post office. Only after a month with no contact do I get anxious. Sure, I prefer a faster method of shipment. But I know its not possible for everyone, and a bit of patience never killed me!

If they're in the US and you haven't received the pins in 7 days, I'd contact them. I figure allow 3 days to mail, then another 3 days to receive.

I said 2 days, because I understood it as being the amount of time in which the pins are packaged and shipped by each party. Not the amount of time it takes for the pin to get to its destination.

When I buy or trade stuff, on the internet, I expect it to get out the door in a timely manner. I expect they have it in hand and are serious about providing excellent customer service and timely shipping.

I may take a while to grind out a deal. But once that deal is done, those pins are packaged and ready to go in 24 hours or less, because waiting sucks if I don't expect it.

Are you talking total shipping time or just the time it takes to go from your house to the local post office?

total shipping time for a small packet within the US should take no more than 2 weeks total. International post will take longer so I would say 5 weeks tops.

now just to get off your bum to package, ship and send a conformation # 4 days tops.

We all have things that come up from time to time and getting a pin out takes longer than expected, but communication is the key! A few words just to say what's going on will go a very long way, if you can only get to the post office once a week, every 2 weeks or even once a month just let the person know what's going on.

Sorry I don't think my OP was clear. I was talking about the time it takes to actually put it in the mail.

To get the pin packaged and shipped (within 2 days). When I trade in the U.S., I let the trader know when I plan to ship and provide a delivery confirmation number. On a somewhat similar but tangent note, I try to leave references within 1 week. However, this can be difficult, as I have to ship my pins to my father's house since I have had several parcels go "missing" at my apartment complex. My busy schedule prevents me from picking up those pins on a regular basis since my father is about a 40-50 minute drive with normal traffic.

I think for anything within the US two weeks is fine. Honestly I would wait longer as long as the person communicates I feel like that's all that really matters. I know I've dropped stuff off at my local post office and then watched the tracking # just sit there... other times people seriously get the pins in maybe a day. Patience and communication are important.

i voted at up to 7 days, but want to clarify...

up to 7 days to get it packed an in the mail... NOT for it to be on my doorstep. and only USA. I am incredibly forgiving of late packages because LIFE happens. I can usually pack and ship USA stuff within 24 hours, and hubby can drop it in the mailbox by his work no problem. But sometimes that kids are sick, or i am, or my printer runs out of ink (those puppies are expensive to replace) or even once ran out of paper, then freaking paypal went down on me for 12 hours, and and and... well you get the point.

international is a whole other ball of wax.... And to be honest i dont worry about an international package arriving for me, from someone for like... 2 months. some countries run packages through customs differently than others. I TRY valiantly to ship internationals on a weekly basis, but as many of my recent international customers and trades are aware, my life got in the way of me getting to a P.O. for almost a month. It was ridiculous, and i expect none of those recent international packages are going to get positive feedback, if they give me feedback at all. It sucked and i hated myself for it. But life got in the way, over... and over... and over again. Stoopid life. ;)

Anyway.. i ramble. If you cant get a package out in a "timely" manner, make sure you let the recipient know, in general they are going to understand.

Well, the op said how long it should take someone to pack up the pin and run it to the post box so I said 2 days. As soon as I make the trade, I pack it up and send it out the very next day. In my opinion, if you're on here making trades, be curteous and get it out in a timely manner. Especially if you say you'll send it the next day, then send it the next day. Don't wait 5 days and then send it without saying something. I understand people have things going on sometimes, but at least let a person know you won't send it out for a few days. There are a lot of us who are on this forum pretty regularly, even hours at a time, so the way I see it is, if you have tons of time to spend on here then you have tons of spare time to put a package together and then run it out the next day.

2-3 days seems reasonable to get pins packed and out the door, or communicate with the other as to why it might take longer. International aside.

I hate receiving a trade when my package hasn't gone out (people that mail the same day) and I'm sure others feel the same.

Over here in the old world we have to contend with The Royal Mail! Some post offices shut half days on a Wednesday and early on Saturday (forget about Sunday) so 2 days is a bit tight. It once took a pin a whole year to arrive from the US needless to say we had given up hope lost in mail mans saddlebag lol

A year?!! My goodness! Wonder what journey that pin took.

I'd say 2-5 days. I generally only go to the Post Office once a week so if I just mailed stuff off yesterday then I won't be schlepping back to the post office again for a few days. But GENERALLY I get pins out within a day or two.

I voted for 7 days, because it can be difficult to try and find the time to go to the post office and get everything sent. I am one of those people who if I do sell something, especially on evilbay, I make sure I get the payment before sending out the item. Then it really is their choice how long it will take. I like to make sure I let people who I trade/sell with when I am going to post the pin, and when it has been sent. I think that it's only right for them to know, and that everything to do with selling and trading online is down to communication.
