Hi all,

Hoping someone can clarify this distinction for me! Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm not quite sure what the difference is between a Correspondent and a Moderator? Every now and then someone will ask me who they should go to for X question and I'm never sure where to direct them. Are Correspondents like Apprentice Mods, who help out on the same issues when there's a lot of overflow? Or do they have their own specific responsibilities? Are they in charge of broadcasting DPF breaking headline news around the world? :) Can someone explain the chain of command, please?

Thanks so much!

Laura

When in doubt, the answer is Charlie!

I believe a correspondent provide "breaking" pin news.

A moderator (dancecats and TheGrimGrinner) helps out with issues around the forum, but cannot make changes to the forum itself.

An owner (Bricklayer, Cicada, Thejessta) is just that - the owner of the forum (creator).

Proper offerings for each:

Correspondent- three chickens, a pound of honey or two LE 1500 pins or better.

Moderator- a young lamb (more than 9 months old but not exceeding one year), two pounds of candied figs, or two LE 1000 pins or better.

Owner- your first born or three LE 300 pins or better.

Haha of course not! These are standard offerings that should be made to you when DPF members see you. Taken originally from some old pin trading manuscript from the time of the Romans.

Romans...I made some pretty good trades with a few...but Ceasar and Nero, now they were really difficult...they kept asking for "tributes" and offering scrappers in return

So question about the young lamb: can it be excatly 1 year when the offering happens? I got the two pounds of candied figs and LE 1000 pins ready.

Oh dear ... we completely derailed this thread and I apologize for starting it with Charlie.

The problem is that everytime I try to pop in and post something sensible, I read all the funny stuff and then can't help laughing.

Getting back to Laura's original question .... ehm ....

The following is my understanding:

MODerators deal with the less fun stuff.

Mods

*are a go-in-between for trading/sales disputes
*make sure PIF/SS participants follow up on their promises
*are responsible to keep controversial threads civil and to the point
*handle any other conflict resolution
* make sure that members adhere to the rules for the auction forum
* look after the recently developes drawings/games/ raffles/bingos etc to make sure it all runs smooth & fair
* assist in high end trades as a middle (wo)man
*close "naughty" threads and dole out infractions to "naughty" forum members
*anything else I might have forgotten

Correspondents do the more fun stuff :)

*Steve generously zaps people
*Judy knows everyone's address, so she is my go-to person if I want to zap someone
*As starry-solo mentioned, breaking news, pin and/or Disney related
*Other communication threads to keep track of PIFs and SS related stuff
*Any other responsibility admin or mods ask them to do (maybe?)

In my understanding, although the correspondents participate in discussions with the mods and admin, they do not have the authority to "enforce" the rules on the forum - please correct me if I am wrong here.

Neither should they be asked to look into "trades/sales gone wrong" type of disputes. Of course, if one offers them a young goat and 2 LE 500 pins, they might be inclined to help more

I hope this helps and I am sorry for goofing around in your thread with Charlie Laura, but you started it ;)

We have also enlisted the help of "Correspondents" which serve as official representatives for DPF -- they do not have moderator privileges, but they are exceptional members who have been chosen for their outstanding qualities and their desire to help the DPF community.

Absolutely agree on the exceptionalism and helpfulness :) But I have to say, this is still extremely vague as job descriptions go! :)
