What kind of paint do you use for cork boards?

Hey everyone! If I get money for my birthday later this month, I'd like to get some paints so I can paint additional cork boards and do themed boards for more collections. My Mulan one turned out so well, I"m raring to go and make another one!! For those of you who paint your cork boards, what kind of paint do you use? I used fabric pen paint that I had lying around and the end result is that it's kind of sticky to the touch. Dry, and it won't hurt the pins, but a little sticky *lol* I was hoping to find something that has a smooth dried texture and won't risk dye-ing the back of the pins or anything. Any advice?

I don't use paint, i get colorful card stock! haha, i think it works pretty well and you don't have to wait for it to dry. (I'm very impatient, lol)

I've thought about doing this myself, but in the end, anything you put on the board (paint, marker, etc.) could come off on the pins...even if it's a long time coming.

In the end, I decided for cool cork boards with colored frames, and just leaving the cork natural.

I would imagine that as long as the paint fully dried, it wouldn't be an issue.

As for type of paint, I would probably give the latex paint a go and choose something that was a matte finish, as I don't think a gloss finish would compliment the pins as well as a flat finish.

I've also wondered if fabric would work or if it was somewhat unrulely and difficult to get to lay flat and smooth?

I have done a few with Semi gloss spray paint. Never had a problem. But that is really only good for big areas.

Crafter's acrylic paint that you can get for like a buck at Michaels/Joanns/Walmart works great, it comes in a ton of colors and it's cheap I've had my pins on my painted board for years that each and every pin is completely fine. I really don't see it coming off on my pins and even if it did it could certainly be easily scraped off, metal is non-porous so it's not going to stick. I have also used fabric, of which I prefer over paint just because it looks nicer than cork, even painted cork. I am not a fan of the traditional pins on a cork board so all of mine have something else going. I should take some pictures so you can see. I've also done individually painted canvases to showcase a particular pin. Also no problem with paint coming off and it definitely makes for a great piece of art. Just not practical for a large collection.

When I do mine I use acrylic, I just paint them white as a primer then put what ever other colour over the top. Plus acrylics are so easy to mix so you can make any colour you like with like 5 tubs. I just have red, yellow and blue then black and white to darken or lighten. Black is a great colour to do none themed boards too as everything goes with black hehe!

I don't prime, but I do use 2 coats. I like the pre-mixed crafter's acrylics because then I can get sparkly colors, but that's just me. Just to be clear though, these are not painter's, as in for canvases, these are all purpose acrylic paint, it's a little thinner but it's what is recommended for painting all manner of things, like cork boards, wood, decoupage cardboard.

i use old black Tee shirts. One layer thick and i strech it tight and tack in on the underside. when its done u have a very smooth black soft board. U can take the pins on and off over and over and never see the holes. Sumtimes the pait shows the holes if u take pins on and off. hope that hellps a little. u could always buy fabric u like and with a print also.
