I prefer to check off as much as possible. And after being around for as long as I have, too many "grails" lose their shine. Counterfeiting can destroy a pin's value so easily, throw in trend changes and it's a crap shoot for what will keep it's value. I recently bought a Wet Paint pin for $34. For many years, a $150 pin. Jessica, Stitch, Tinker Bell have all seen their values sink relative to previous years. Jessica through counterfeiting, the other two due to collecting trends. Are you comfortable spending $175 on something that in 5 years or 10 years will be a $30-$50 pin? Sometimes it's not a bother if something is the last pin you need for a collection, or whatever, or it's something so rare that you can go years and only see it once or twice.
