We made a stupid beginner mistake - We bought a lot of 50 pins from ebay. :anxious:

I have not looked thru all of them yet but a good percentage say the following on pinpics "Be aware that this pin is being offered for sale directly to pin collectors from a factory in China. As such no one can guarantee the authenticity of this pin."

My husband is contacting the seller and we will see what they say. Suggestions beyond that?

I need traders for the Sept 13th event, but I do not want to trade bad pins or scrappers.

Tricia

I did the same thing and the whole bag was scrappers. If you need traders, PM your address. I have a lot of traders that would be good for the parks that I can guarantee are real (because I bought them myself). I will gift them to you as I am not getting to the parks this year and I have been where you are. It will help cure my anger at getting taken! :p

I think a lot of us started that way thinking they were legit pins only to purchase scrappers on the Bay, especially when it comes to lots.

I agree! But the scrappers I bought when I first got into pin trading in 2008-09 were really good. Glossy, no rough edges, etc. Maybe they were just overruns. I do remember that mini-Minnie (from the Pirates set) was missing her eyelashes. Back then, those still cost $1-2 per pin and I thought that was a great deal! Now scrappers are 50-cents and look like crap (based upon pics)

That's really sweet!

Hugmonster, my suggestion would be to take this ^^^ offer. :) Sorry to hear, but hopefully you will get your money back.

Wow Thank you so very much!! I will PM you my contact information.

Do what I did....

When I first got into pins, I bought a lot as well... Found this community and found they were fake...

So I gave them all to my 8 year old sister and it was like a kid on Xmas morning! She was so so so excited.

Thanks Dan.. If we can not return to sender I will be spreading some magic at Disney for kids that are not trading. I can explain to parents.

If you can't get a refund or something, if your creative you can turn them into jewellery, I did this and gave them as christmas presents :)

Most of them state a claim in their listing that they're guaranteed to be tradeable, but not much else. It's clever wording designed on purpose. Contacting the seller is probably not going to yield much results if they're overseas.

Even if the listing doesn't claim that the pins are authentic, selling scrappers or counterfeits is illegal. Scrappers would be stolen property and counterfeits would be copyright infringements.

Luckily this seller is in the US. Unfortunately my husband is over reacting today about this and I am just letting him blow off steam on it for now.
Thanks to Cjvandever I will have traders and if needed I will spend some of my Disney money on pin sets to trade when we are there. I have done it in the past, that is how I got started.

This has really saddened us and we will be looking thru all of our pins again.

What I do is go to the character premier store as they sell pins in there a lot cheaper and its officially disneystore this is what I do to get cheap pins for trade I'm sorry to hear your story put in a claim with ebay if he/she doesn't refund you your money hope this helps

Be careful with this. Some people will still trade them with Cast Members or other park goers even if you explain to them.

Beyond contacting the seller and getting your money back, there really isn't anything to do. I know alot of people use them for arts and crafts or donate them to children. While I don't have many scrappers/counterfeits at the moment, if I ever amass alot I'm contemplating making an artsy "scrapper"board of shame all arranged in a mickey/castle motif or collecting them all in a shadowbox and have them show through a custom matting in a disney theme shape.

see what the seller says, they may refund you and have you return the pins. They would get a neg feedback if they dont fix the problem. Selling fakes can get them into trouble with ebay. Especially if you persue it and file complaints if they dont help you return them.

You have several months until the event. If you want decent real hidden mickeys and such check out our sales forum here, lots of low priced little pins for traders and often folks sell off OE's and LE's..... If your a DLR or WDW local, start going to the releases on thursdays and picking up pins to fill your book for traders too.

most people dont recommend taking scrappers into the park at all. I know that 5titch was looking for scrappers to make jewelry. She even said she would pay for shipping!

Since it's a US seller, I'd contact Disney - maybe their legal department? They may welcome an opportunity to go after a US seller, because it would be far easier than trying to shut down someone in Asia.

You can report the seller to Disney at tips@disneyantipiracy.com. I have done this with a few sellers that are just blatant scrapper sellers on eBay. I don't know how much good it does, but at least I felt better. :p

Oh, and I have used scrappers for all kinds of crafts. You can pop the main post off fairly easily and if you have Dremel, you can grind down the little sticky posts. Once it's flat on the back, you can use them for all kinds of things. Of course, some scrappers are so bad looking that I just toss them.

I made the same mistake when I first started  I now cut the backs off and glue them onto cases I make for my phone/ipod ^_^

Disney can't do anything about it and they will tell you that. How can they do anything when most of their staff is trading these scrappers in the parks to honest children who bought actual real pins and ended up trading for fakes. That makes Disney just as guilty as the eBay sellers. My daughter had this happen many times until we realized what was happening. We complained through phone calls and emails and Disney did absolutely nothing about it. If Disney brought the manufacturing of pins back to the USA, this scrapper issue would be none existant but bottom line Disney just cares about profit and these scrappers are such a minor detail to them.

Thank ou for the feedback everyone. My husband is calming and I think we are going to request a refund. I'm going to go thru every other pin I have after this weekend.
