I noticed so many fantasy PTD pins being made of characters yet to be released like Aladdin.
Will characters like Aladdin not be made anymore thanks to people who can't wait for the real one to be released by Disney?

Others are Oswald, pegasus, Dinah, all the Inside Out emotions, Winston from Feast short, and more

Personally I hope they do release them, making the fantasy PTDs worthless. I'm not entirely against fantasy pins if they're made for characters who would never have a pin featuring them, but blatant rip offs are annoying.

I wouldn't think that anything would change what Disney has a mind to do. Many of the fantasy pins have more detail than the Disney pins, but they are not Disney pins. Look at them as you would someone drawing or painting a character not created by a Disney artist. I don't hear anyone complaining about them. I look at it as art. I am not an artist and am in awe of what some of you people can do. You can choose to, or not to, collect them. Just my humble opinion.

IF anything I honestly think it will cause Disney TO make them.

Recently DSF held a "What character do you want to see next." And many of the answers were STILL these characters. They know that Fantasy pins are a fad right now, and it's not going to stop them.

However much I enjoy any real or fantasy pin, the copy paste stuff is such BS. If you're gonig to go out of your way to have a pin made might as well make the art for it nice.

I don't think Disney will not release a pin just because a fantasy pin exists of it. It will be interesting to see what happens to the fantasy and real pin market values if they release an official pin that's similar to an existing fantasy pin, though.

It the end it's all Disney IP. Disney can do with it as they please. They could even do the same exact thing as the Fantasy pin and the Fantasy pin creator couldn't do a thing about it because 1 - it was unauthorized use and 2 - it's Disney.
The Fantasy pins do not, and can not, have the ©Disney on the back. That would open a whole new door of legal problems for the creators.

Personally, I don't mind a lot of the Fantasy pins. Some of them are kinda nice. Obviously I know they're not official and I would never treat/trade/sell them as official pins.
I just wish the Fantasy PTD craze would go away. It comes off as nothing more than a grab for money at that point because they're cashing in on the general PTD craze.
I also wonder if Disney would be more likely to go after the Fantasy PTD creators because it involves not only Disney, but Ghirardelli, a good business partner.

The El capitan is also its own entity as a whole. So it's a triple threat I like to believe. I have one fantasy ptd I traded for but I also like it because it's not something Disney would EVER make.

You must have the Sora one... The only one I ever thought of getting as far as Fantasy PTDs as well.

I have a couple of fantasy pins and the biggest problem besides the legality of it all is the quality issue. I've paid for good pins and received the bad ones by accident. I don't like the ones that people do that continue a series they're already making and have not completed, like the PTD and Sorcerer's hats. It just seems impatient. There's also the Fantasy pins which have copied art on them like the Ariel Seasons, which is exactly the same line art for Ariel.

No I don't have the Sora..he's really pretty though!

I have the one called "strawberry siren" it's like ariel in a cat hoodie...it was weird but i thought it was super cute so i traded for it.

THIS in bold is my problem too. Like the inside out ones ):

I personally do not own any fantasy pins but I have seen a few that I thought were pretty. However, I do not like people making fantasy PTD pins. I don't think fantasy pins should look like Disney pins - a PTD is a definite style that is Disney's own. Fantasy pins should be individual, artistic impression of characters or scenes, not copies of Disney pins.

I don't mind a couple that continue something that Disney did a long time ago and will never attempt to complete, i.e. the Nouveau Elsa. But it also took great skill and mastery of composition to make the pin a great addition to the series. I'm almost tempted to make an Anna nouveau for myself, and just trade the rest that I get as traders for other fantasy pins.

I don't think these fantasy pins will affect what Disney/DSF decides to make PTDs for at all, but I still don't like them. If I was new and didn't know any better, I'd probably have bought a bunch of fantasy pins that I liked, having no idea what "fantasy" really means and just assumed it was another series by Disney. Later I would be very upset to find out that they were essentially fake Disney pins.

Not sure how the quality looks/feels in person though as I've never held one. And I'm mostly talking about the really nice looking ones that could easily be mistaken for legit Disney pins on eBay.

I think people are so desperate for their character as a PTD and their not willing to wait for character, like inside. It takes a while to make a pin, just wait for your character. I'm still waiting for a Lilo and Stitch Marquee. all I can say is just collect real and official DSSH PTD.

I'm resurrecting this thread to talk about an aspect of fantasy pins that is kind of difficult. I feel the same way as the above about fantasy pins... I've seen some unique and really gorgeous ones (and also some unique and hideous ones) and I'm drawn to the ones that are beautiful and original or the ones that attempt to continue a series like the art nouveau, seasons, and profile series. I too think of it the same way I think of fan art.

However, there's a fantasy pin out there now that is using someone else's fan art. James Silvani, who is a professional artist and does some licensed Disney work, drew Stitch as Maleficent as a D23 commission:

Someone has made fantasy pins of this art WITHOUT James' permission. He and Amy Mebberson have tried to contact the people they've found selling these pins, without much result so far as I know. (I've messaged a few on ebay as well.)

I imagine some people just shrug and say "it's already unauthorized so what's the big deal?" But there's a difference. One-of-a-kind commissioned art pieces have different rules than mass-producing prints using the characters.

Taking your own fan art and making something out of it is different, IMO, than copying someone else's fan art and pasting it and then making money off it. Professional artists have a hard enough time making a living without someone else profiting from their work.

I love some of the fantasy pins. Most of the time they are filling a hole that Disney for whatever reason refuses to. That being said, those people who steal Disney art should be prosecuted. If you want to really make fan art then make fan art and don't use Disney's art. I am sure at some point Disney will decided it is time to go after people and when they do look out.

I saw somebody mention scrappers of fantasy pins. One thing everybody needs to think about it just because it says LE 100 or whatever size on the back does not mean there are only 100 pins. What is to stop some unscrupulous sellers from making 200 or 1000 and calling them LE 100. If you like the pin then get one, but don't get one because it is supposedly LE. Like everything else in pin trading, there are people out there trying to make money off of these pins. I have seen somebody trying to get 200 dollars for a fake(fantasy) Ariel stained glass pin.
