According to the official Disney Studio Store Facebook page:

"Beginning today, to improve the experience for our guests and cast, we are making a slight change to how we sell Pin Trader Delight sundaes. Sales will begin at 9:00am, with the last sundae SOLD at 9:30pm."

Ruh-Roh. The people on Facebook are not happy about this at all.

Yeah, not surprised. Really, if they want to make more money on this, make the pin a purchase with purchase or change the pricing.

$15 for the pin w/o sundae or $23 for the pin w/sundae.

The crowd was huge last night with the rule having been be in line by 9:30. We were in line by 8:30 but didn't get out sundae by 9:30 so we would have missed out if this was the rule last night. We left at 11 and the line was down the alley so I am sure they had to stay past closing to serve the crowd.

Really not seeing what the big deal is about this. They're giving the heads up and letting people know. It's the rule they want to enforce. You don't like it? Don't support the place.

Is that right? golly higher price. but then again look where this place is at..

No, the prices haven't raised yet. I was just saying that if GSF/DSS really didn't want to be scooping out all that ice cream, they could do 2 different prices. One with the sundae, one without the sundae. Or make the pin a purchase with a sundae (that is, you pay $15 for the sundae and then have to pay another $5-10 for the pin)...

I don't get why people are making such a fuss (mostly on facebook, not so much here). It seems to me that employees are frequently having to stay after the store should be closed in order to serve people. It can't be that surprising that Ghirardelli is doing something about it. I'm definitely picking up this attitude of entitlement from facebook, though. I mean come on. Like kba41510 said: if you don't like it, don't shop there.

whats the big deal. most of us work, and who the hell wantS to stay a full 2 hours after your shift is over to scoop out ice cream to a bunch of crazy *** pin people who actually just want the pin and toss the ice cream in the garbage. the original intent was to get a wee little gift for buying the signature ice cream which was a heafty price for a sundae if ya ask me and now its like $4 more than when i went. When my shift is over IM OUTA THERE.

This is a HORRIBLE idea!!! Don't give them any ideas about raising the prices. Yeah, people resell those things at high prices but really, those small, crappy-quality PTDs are barely worth $16.30 with a sundae!!

If they want to make more money, they need to go take a class in economics. I've never seen any business change it's practices as much as Soda Fountain does... pathetic.

Seriously you release bolt and Gamma back to back late at night? After Bolt they should have done another chicken little pin. You were only asking for trouble by releasing a UP pin.

+10.

I don't see the big deal either. Really, it's more a tinkling with semantics than it is a rule change. It doesn't make much sense to change the rules to dictate people IN LINE by 9:30 will still be served if the line wraps around the store. Of course the employees aren't going to get done with closing procedures and attend the scragglers at a reasonable time. I work at a place that doesn't kick out customers once it's closing time, and I know how aggravated my team and I get when that equates to us getting home around 12 or 1 am. And then to have to wake up at 9 am and do it all over again? F--k that noise!

My DSF hook up is going to be affected by this too, before anyone points fingers. It looks like I'm going to be joining in and buying ptds off the pin cartel at ridiculous prices. Oh well. C'est la vie. If either of us worked at DSF, we'd be complaining about pin traders staying in our stores late. Point is: SOMEONE is always complaining.

I think this is the only guy nice enough to stay up late, serving people ice cream for the pin cause:

I understand the rule change and the concern about the workers, but I'd be really upset if I were in line for an hour or more just be sent away when I was 5 people away from getting ice cream (oh yeah, and a pin)...

What they really need to do is up the LE to 1000, then very few pins would sell out in one day and if an unpopular pin lasted five days that wouldn't be the end of the world...

I say pricing should remain the same but if you don't want the ice cream the transaction takes about 10% of the time that making and selling a sundae does. I think it's difficult for anyone that hasn't been there to understand how long it takes one person to hand scoop ice cream put the junk on it etc. Some people go in and buy 6-10 at a time which of course drags the process out even further. The store is really small and seems to average between 4-6 employees max at all times (last time I was there in Jan anyway) that could have changed with the recent spike of sharks but it's unlikely.

If the sharks want to make the line move and get their pins before the 9:30 cut off...STOP ASKING FOR THE ICE CREAM, simple as that. You want to ensure that the pin flips and you get to make diaper money...see above.

I like this idea. And then maybe more casual traders who can't go everyday would be able to get PTDs. And I always ate the ice-cream when I was there, I guess because I was never interested in getting 5 to make a profit. Can't they just limit the amount of pins you get like they do with regular releases? 2 PTDs a visit, regardless of how many sundaes you buy.
