Hey guys, I'm going to risk asking a question that might be nooby. Basically, how long after the hidden mickey waves come out do cast members keep refreshing their lanyards with new hidden mickey pins. So, how long after the release date of new hidden mickey pins before the only ones on lanyards have already been traded. I hope this makes sense, lol. Thanks in advance!
 
I'd like to know this too, actually; it would be a clue to how likely the ones you find are to be scrappers.
 
Yeah that's why I am curious; I am going to WDW next week for 10 days and am hoping that the second wave of 2012 HMs don't have scrappers in ciculation yet but I am sure that they probably do.
 
There is no release date at all.

The pins are received at Disneyland main then split up between all of the cast members departments that are allowed to wear pins.

Some cast members never refresh their lanyards. Some do.

Merchandising cast members get theirs from a box in the morning or start of their shift. If the lead punt new pins on the lanyard the night before or at the earliest shift, there will be new pins, if not then old pins.


In DCA custodial we had a big pin drawer and we were only allowed to refresh every 2-3 weeks, and we had to do that in our off time.
 
At WDW Magic Kingdom, in the tunnels there is a "pin station" where cast members can exchange any two pins on their lanyard for two different pins. Some cast members enjoy pin trading with guests and go to the "pin station" before each shift. Others probably never go. When the new Hidden Mickeys are out they are usually given in the exchange. Cast members are not allowed to choose which two pins they will receive. I am assuming this happens until they are all distributed.

I am not a cast member, but this is what I have been told. :)

And for the record, many of the HM's cast members get from the "pin station" are not perfect. I am friends with a CM that had received a normal looking Tiana perfume bottle, also also one with a wonky eye. So defects do not automatically mean a fake. These are mass-produced pins from China, so variations can occur.
 
Thanks guys for the responses, how long do you think before the new HMs run out and are no longer available for CMs to obtain new when they refresh? I'm leaving for WDW on Sat the 28th, I'm assuming the B Wave HMs will still be refreshed onto CM lanyards? I'm just paranoid, to be honest, of scrapped HMs. Thanks all!
 
I think scrappers typically go into circulation a month or so after the release. At DLR, the new HMs came out on the 17th (for DL's 57th b-day).

But, the images are released at least one month earlier. Sometimes, scrappers come BEFORE the release at DLR.
 
I hope one day the worries of scrappers isn't so prominent and so pin traders who appreciate and collect HM pins won't have to question every trade they make with a CM. Thanks for the response starry solo.
 
In California Adventure we had just gotten a new lead that had his creative focus on pins. Before that there was a really nice lady, and she would take and give you the OLDEST pins she had in packs of 6 at a time. (You had to give 6 to get 6). So the new ones she tried to not give out right away that way they would last longer and people could still get nice older ones.

If you are going that soon I think you will be fine. The only Hidden Mickey I have heard rumors of being scrapped from this series (so far) is this one:


And my advice would be to get to the parks when they open, and start looking at lanyards as soon as you get in. If you go later in the day most of the lanyards will be picked over...unless you get lucky and find someone that is starting their afternoon shift. Also don't forget to look at Manager's lanyards, and keep your eye out for pin boards, hats, etc. around the parks and resorts. :)
