Alright, so I've noticed in about every collection, people have kept some pins on their original backer cards. Why? I think it just takes up more room. Any comments on why you keep them? Do people use them more with trading?

I like to keep them because some of the cards are really cool looking :) and I don't know, it keeps it classy like when you first bought it ! :)

IMHO, the backer card is only desireable because it helps convince people of the pin's authenticity. Otherwise, I've got to believe that the backer card would only be desireable to the most die hard collector (that is, those who collect to put them into books instead of on display somewhere.)

I kept some of the backing cards because it helps protect the dangle pins. I also like to keep the packaging on some of the bigger pins that I don't store in my books.

some pins have better value as traders with backer cards. like PODM.

Other pins, ones that might be scrapped or counterfiet, if you have the backer card it sort of shows authenticity.

Personally I am with you, cards take up to much space. My personal collection, they are off the cards. But the cards are in a safe place.... Now if only I could remember where the safe place is.

I am torn as to what to do with the cards. Like others, I think they take up too much room in the book. I personally don't like looking at the card. What I've been doing is taking them off the cards and then labeling the cards with the pinpic number and "filing it away". Right now my file is a used bubble envelope. LOL! Anyway, now that I am trading more I find it a hassle to look and see if I have the card to put the pin on and mail it. So now I'm thinking well maybe I should just keep it on the card in the book. I haven't decided yet.

I don't display the cards but I keep them. I display pins in my collection on painted cork boards and put the cards away with a note of the Pinpics number. I keep traders on the cards.

I keep all my cards in a box. If I feel the need to switch some pins out of a collection into traders then I have them for value and authenticity. The only problem is with a couple thousand backer cards, the thought of changing some to traders and finding the right card is frighting. :) All my pins that were acquired to be traders have always had the cards kept with them.

This is why I don't put any stock into the backer cards. I've received a few pins with backer cards but the SKU has been taken off. Even with the SKU, somebody can still put a counterfeit pin on it. So I'm just not impressed by the back card claim anymore. Maybe if you had the receipt... But even then I'm going to inspect it.

I recently had a situation like this. I bought a pin that was "NOC" The pin was right, the card was right, but the SKU was for a different card. So what happened here? Did Disney put the wrong SKU sticker on it or did the person put in on the wrong card? Who knows? :dunno:

I learned the hard way. I keep all of my cards now. They take up more room in my trade book, but more people are willing to trade if the card is there. For PODMs, I don't mind if the card is there or not... I have traded away and traded for PODMs without cards. It's all about the film strip... For pins with special backers lik V&V or Attraction Posters the card is more important.

as to cards with wrong sku#....

I would never knowingly put a pin on a backer card with the wrong sku. I do however, especially for rack pins, keep a stack of blank black backer cards. I remove sku stickers from the rack ones because well, they just dont matter that much. You can also buy blank backer cards at MyD pins, but again.. no sku.

I have a whole book full of pins off their backer cards. When I started trading (2002) and for many years after, people just didn't care about the cards. Even recently when I got back into trading, I was putting my pins in my keeper and trader books and I was tossing the cards and/or boxes away. It wasn't until I started making trades and folks started asking if the pins were mint on their card that I found out this has become the standard. I guess due in part to the counterfeiting that is going on. Sad, really.

A lot of my traders are my (former) Tinker Bell collection so I didn't keep any of the backing cards because they were pins I had planned to keep in my collection.

With the exception of the ones I have in their packages, mostly DSF... people will have to look at the pins for themselves and take them (or leave them) on faith.

Does My D Pins have a website? I'm in a need of a few backer cards.

I like to have a card just because it's easier for me to have them in the pockets of my pages. It makes getting them in and out easier. I personally wouldn't de-value a pin or not for it but I know it does matter to some. I try to have a backer that says limited edition for a LE pin so I can know when I'm looking at my pins which ones are LE or OE.

to be honest i think it is all a personal choice but mostly when I trade with long time traders they prefer if I have the card. I agree with Psycho Pixie If it is a PODM I love to have the card because it just makes me feel better....idk why but it does.
But in reality I want the pin not the card but I have understood it is important to some and I keep them in a large ziploc bag and have a few in my trading bag just because some people just really want the card.....but it's a hassle to keep them=/
