I have a question for everyone and I would like everyone to be honest. Is it mean to tell someone that they need more traders. To be clear I was the one told this. I posted a thread on my facebook and I was told by another memeber that I need more then 10 traders. Another member agreed and said that she wanted to do a trader but I didn't liked what picked out. The pin that she wanted wasn't from trades but from my collection. I told her that I don't trade from my collection. I was like a little hurt but not angry. Please leave me some feedback please! But on a postive note there was one person who was willing to trade that did make me smile though.

Thank You,
Jessica

No, you do not need more than 10 traders. I think I currently have 10 traders, maybe a bit more. If you have one trader and you are happy with that, who is to judge you? The more traders you have, the better chance you have of getting pins you want but not necessarily. So no, I think the people telling you that are just being mean and ridiculous.

Um, your collection is your collection. If you have 2 or 200 traders, what the heck EVER! If no one wants something you have to trade, then don't trade with them. I have had a few offers from people to trade for my pins that were in my collection and not on my trader list. One time I even went through with the trade becuase I LOVED what they offered to trade...it's up to you. I wouldn't run out and buy a bunch of pins just so you have more to trade...unless you want to!

Honestly::

You do not "need" more traders, however you are likely to get more response to trade requests if you have a larger number of pins available.

My advice to people is always, "if your willing to trade it for exactly the right pin, it belongs in your trade list." After all you can always say no until you get the right request.

It is not polite to request a trade from someone "owns" or collection list. THAT was rude!

The person who told you to get more traders was likely not trying to be rude, but helpful, they just um... said it wrong? But they should not have asked for a pin from your collection.

Yeah, I don't know where they're getting their information, but there is no set amount of pins that must be on your trades list. Obviously, the more traders you have, the more likely you can work out a trade with someone. I'm more of a collector/buyer than a trader, and I have 49 traders right now. I was told at one point that I needed more traders by someone on here, and I thought, how rude! I don't interact with that person anymore. To each their own!

KEEP CALM
and
TRADE ON!

LOL :wiggle:

My honest opinion: it's up to you on how many traders you want.

I don't really have traders becasue I collect more than I trade which really means I'm buying my pins to add to my collection. It's just a little too hard since I'm far away from the parks and never really visit due to scheduling and cost. I have pins I feel I can part with in order to trade but I don't specifically seek out pins to buy to have as a trader.

Like all hobbies: it's in the eye of the beholder on what you want to do with your pins.

Being honest?

To actually get anywhere with trading, yes, you need more than 10 traders. If you think about it objectively, 10 is not a lot of pins to choose from. You'll go through them hella fast, too, as you get rid of them for keepers that go in your collection. You could run on it for a while, but you'd have to constantly replace them. If you're someone who buys/collects more than trades, it will last longer, but eventually, you'll run out.

Was it rude for someone to point it out to you? I dunno...probably depends on whether or not it was a conversational tone or a sneering/condescending one.

All of the above comments are great and I agree with most every point made...

Opinions from the goons on this vary...

For my wife... She is a collector and never wants to part with any pin as she thinks each one has it's own specific beauty... She would be the same as yourself and have her collection with very few she would be willing to trade, but she is ok with that, as she hates trading and pin trading events for the most part... Her pins are hers and she doesn't want to give them up... My wife would be fine with only 10 traders...

But for myself... I am all about the pursuit... once I have owned a pin I often trade it soon after since I have had the pleasure of enjoying it for a while and feel perhaps someone else would also enjoy it (My scoop pin and Ray for example)... For me to be able to pursue and obtain these more elusive pins, I must be willing to part with other pins of equal value and have a good assortment of pins for others to choose from... so thus for me 10 just wouldn't do...

The great thing about our hobby is that you can do either one that makes you happy...

As far as someone requesting a pin from your collection... I wouldn't take that a rude personally as no pin is so valuable to me that I would not trade it... They are just pins and this is just a hobby to me... This is why we stopped listing all of our wants, trades, and collection online... first it was too much work to keep up with when you trade as often as I do... and my wife doesn't want people asking for her pins... LOL ... To me PinPics is just a Tool not a Rule...

I dont think the size of your traders matters but as others have said it is easier sometimes when you have more. If I am talking to someone that would really like to trade but they dont have anything I like on there trades list I do have a peek at there collection. I do say I compleately understand that they wouldnt want to trade but I dont think its rude to enquire politely and often I have made a trade like that as sometimes people would part with a collection pin for one they like. I know I got one of my holy grails for someone asking for a pin off my owns :) so hopefully I havent gone around insulting everyone :(

I think it also depends on the pin you were asking to trade for versus what you had available for trade.

P.S. I didn't cross-check, but if Psycho Pixie doesn't already have those 3 Tinker Bell pins on your trades list, she'd probably want them. :)

If you want to trade, then yes, you are going to need more than 10 traders otherwise you are going to quickly run into situations where the person you want to trade with already has the pins you have, or isn't interested in those themes, results in unbalanced requests etc.

If you are fine mostly purchasing pins and only have a small amount of traders for when you visit a park and do a little in person trading, but don't want to carry too much, then 10, while probably is still a little light, is probably fine.

I think if you have more traders then you stand a better chance of making a trade. Right now, I have two pins on your want list, but we don't have any matches on your trade list. Sometime if someone wants one of my pins and we don't have a match I'll go look at their traders and see if they have anything that fits my collection. If they only had a few pins then there's only a really small chance there's something I'd trade for.
Don't be discouraged, it takes a long time to build up a good selection of pins. I see you're in CA, maybe you're close enough to get to DLR and get some new releases. My BFF just started online trading recently and she's been buying the poster pins and PTN pins to trade and has been making some really great trades.

Trader amount doesn't matter, it becomes relative to what you're looking to trade for. Having 500 Hidden Mickey pins will never be as appealing as having or having 5 PODM pins, it really just depends on what you're seeking. With that said, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to buy traders rather than buying pins I want for my collection outright. However buying pins directly from Disney to trade might not be a bad thing. I actually think its smarter to have less traders because you are not tied down as heavily as those with hundreds of traders that never get turned over.

Pretty much this .. . . I think that 10 doesn't give the person u are trading with many options - and thus you probably won't get some of the pins you REALLY want.

As for the rude aspect - it is all about the delivery - and let me point out if it was in written form it is easy to mis-read someone.

As a new trader, this is all excellent information. Thanks for bringing it up wonderwoman! I barely have 10 pins as it is, but it's nice to see the different pats I could take as I start the hobby. I'm such a waffler I don't know if I could buy a bunch of pins just to trade! Oh who am I kidding - I'm not even sure what all I want to collect yet!

I personally don't like it when someone requests a pin from my collection. I have MANY traders, yet some folks go right to my collection & ask for one of those. If I want to trade it, I put it ON my trader list
i do agree that more than 10 traders will increase your chance of a "trading match "

Hi, I am more of a collector than a trader. But I think it is outside of boundaries when someone is requesting pins from your 'personal collection'. I would stay away from people that don't respect your own boundaries.

+100

I never have that many traders. At most, I'll have about 30-ish at most. You can have 100 traders but nobody wants any, or you can have 10 super good traders that people wants. Each person can have as many traders as they want or need, or, in my case can afford. There's no set rule of how many traders you should have. And it is rude to say something like that and then ask you to trade a part of your collection. Ack!

I pretty much agree with what people said. I don't think the amount of traders is anyone's business as they're your pins. However, they do make things easier if you have more so there are more for people to choose from. As for your collection, if you don't want to trade any pins from your collection then don't. I'm pretty much the kind of person that won't trade from my collection unless it's a really good offer so please don't feel pressure to trade from your collection. Keep calm and trade on ^__^ of course, only with the ones you want to trade! Always remember to have fun!
