Pin Trader A (people that came up to the tables) gave up five pins to Pin Trader B (person that was already at the tables):

Pin 81349: Tangled Opening Day 2010 Cast Member
Pin 80881: DSF - Tangled - Rapunzel Stained Glass
Pin 72322: DSF - Beloved Tales Series - Hercules

Pin 80880: DSF - Tangled - Maximus
or
Pin 82021: DLP - Tangled - Booster Set (Maximus ONLY)

and a 5th pin which I did not recognize but it was very blingy and green

Pin Trader A received these five pins from Pin Trader B:

Pin 80965: DLP - Rapunzel
Pin 90904: Disney Princess Crest - Mystery Collection - Rapunzel Only
Pin 90958: DLR - Annual Passholder - Unlock the Magic of Disneyland® Resort - Pirates of the Caribbean
Pin 88233: DLR - Annual Passholder - Unlock the Magic of Disneyland® Resort - Pirates of the Caribbean Lock Only
Pin 82157: WDI - Mirror Lenticular Series - Alice

So, 5 pins for 5 pins.

Discuss.

Seems a little lopsided to me, but then I wasn't one of the people, so I'm not sure what each persons "To die for" pins are. :-(

Vicki

I just don't find it necessary to add our own commentary and input or even openly discuss something that none of us had anything to do. It the trade was lopsided the trade was lopsided and there's nothing we can do but say "trader A got the better end of the deal". Also it's not really any of our business what these two traded because it was their pins and they have the right to do whatever they want. I think Vicki said it perfectly by saying we don't know what their to die for pins were. For all we know that lock and key could've been their last to complete their set and could've been their holy grail and the Tangled opening day was just another pin to them. A couple of weeks ago I traded a 101 Dalmatians Beloved Tale for an Avengers marquee that someone bought when it came out, from a third person view that looked like a shady deal but I NEEDED that pin and maybe that was the case with these two traders.

Some people are just in it for the money and see no reason to point out to a naive person what they are giving up. Half don't really care, half say "if everyone is happy," like that's ok. I've been blasted here and at the parks for pointing those people out so I suggest you remember them and watch yourself around them...whoever they were.

I was the recipient of what most people would consider a lopsided trade. I received my CM Tangled Opening Day pin for a Epcot 30th pin still available on the racks that very day. (I had purchased two of the "I Was There" pins specifically to hold onto for a trade.) My pin's value that day was maybe $9.95, her's was well over $200.

We just started talking to the woman and my fiance and I had JUST been engaged with Rapunzel the day before. She was very willing to trade with us based on the significance of the movie and character. She also seemed very happy that the pin was going to a good home where it would be loved and cherished.

I'm of the camp that if everyone was happy with the trade, then it was a successful trade. And as someone who was part of a "lopsided trade" I'm very grateful for the kindness of other traders. We had a great conversation and both walked away with pins we wanted for our collections.

gotta agree with nathan here... not our business if we were not there. Even if we were there....

I was not there, so if both traders are happy, it is none of my business. If the trader loosing the rapunzel's was unaware of what they had, and the other trader PURPOSELY talked down on them, thats just mean evil and rude. But again, Not there. not for me to judge.

Interesting thread post for thought.
"...yes, Trader B, got the better part of this trade."
However, with that being said, I agree with the fact, it really is none of anyone's business, accept between the traders involved.
What goes around comes around, good and bad.

I agree with lostsunprincess and shooting4ownhand; if both traders were satisfied w/ their trades more power to them. And I also agree since we were not there it's hard to say what happened. The trader may have not known the value of the Rapunzel opening day pin (boy I wish I was involved in a trade like that bc that is a grail pin of mine! I hope to be that lucky someday) and that is just sad if the other trader took advantage. Sadly this type situation has happened to me trading at the park with some traders.

Then again the traders could have been trading like how most trading used to be back in the day: trading for what we like, (semi) regardless of price (on ebay) or what pinpics says. I was given some smack about a trade I made back after the Mulan PoDM release; I traded a cherry blossom scene for an LE 125 Peter Pan pin (the one with Peter w/ Hook's jacket on and Wendy curtsying behind him). I didn't care for the Mulan scene very much, but I loved the Peter Pan Pin. Both myself and the trader I traded with were very happy with the trade and I got to know the trader better and we chatted for a bit after the trade. I felt the trade was fair (and I gained a new pin friend), others say it was lopsided. It's all subject to interpretation.

I think this is a great point. The whole "value" aspect has shifted to what pins could be sold for vs. the happiness they bring. I admire and respect people who still collect based on how much they like a pin, and/or how hard it was to find one, instead of "what its worth". IMO they are the ones that are receiving the full value of pin trading. The hobby was meant to be fun, provide the thrill of the hunt and warmth of friendly human interaction.

At the end of the day, everybody has their own "value" on pins; no matter if it is trade, sale, purchase, or otherwise. I hope both parties got whatever was the full-value of that trade in their hearts.

I couldn't agree more; these are the type of people I want to meet and befriend. They make trading fun and is one of the reasons why I got into trading :)

I'm new to trading and, for me, it's not about value, it's about pins I like. Granted, I don't have any pins that are rare or valuable, but if everyone was honest and happy... let it be!

Sharks are bad. In this case, I'd say Trader A is also partly at fault for having THAT good of pins and being THAT ignorant of pin values. How does that even happen?

I will trade based on what my kids really want most, not the $$ value. Of course it would make sense to save the valuable "meaningless" pins until you find a equally valuable "meaningful" one instead of trading it away for something you could easily purchase. I'm trying to educate myself on what is valuable and what isn't for the pins we collect but there is way too much out there to be aware of it all.

I agree with a couple of points - know the value of your pins, but don't be a shark either. I was offered the complete Brave 5 pin set for a DSF Pascal PTD. I didn't take it as I felt like that would be stealing! Those pins were $100 at the beginning and Pascal has been around $50. Both of us may have been happy...but I would have been guilty lol.

I can only tell what happened to me:

Last year I have been at the giving end of 2 very lopsided trades with 2 different people. I walked away happy .... until I found out the $$ value of the pins I traded away.

I purchased some pins 2-3 years back and tucked them away. I had no idea how valuable they got in the mean time as I did not look for them anymore.

When I found out those trades were in the other trader's favor, I felt very betrayed as I am 110% sure they knew what they were getting from me. Needless to say, I would never trade with those people again.

So, for me, both traders walking away happy goes only so far :(

It's not just pin trading. I work in a museum teaching school programs and I have my little prepared speech on the difference between the price of something and the meaning of something whenever people ask how much an artifact is "worth."

Ryan i asked myself the same question... How do we know that trade A didnt know they were giving up such high value pins?

Society values monetary gain of happiness. Sad... Very sad.

As one of those traders who many many times has traded for the pure joy of wanting a pin, regardless of $ value. I can tell you, I get the bad end of the deal quite often. Yes, I admit it, I have been "sharked" as recently as 2 months ago! But it was own fault. I liked a interesting pin that i knew nothing about.

KNOW your trade book, and KNOW what you are looking for!

As long as the person is happy with the pins they got. I have gotten ripped off a bunch of times in the past but I was satisfied because I got a pin I rarely have had chances of getting.

Well, the Tangled Cast Member pin was on a locking back on the lanyard and Trader B said "I really like that pin." I am pretty sure they did not know the value of the pins as they were struggling to find 5 pins that Trader B had in his book that they actually liked.

Except for the Tangled pins on Trader A's lanyard (all with locking back), Trader A's pins were in a ziploc/sandwich sized plastic bag.
