Just a heads-up: I've noticed a number of listings lately, all from the same seller, for lots of "guaranteed tradeable" pins (ie. scrappers and/or fakes). The difference in these recent listings is that the photo on the listing is of a PTN/PTE LE pin, which I assume the buyer has no chance of actually receiving in the lot of pins. I wouldn't be surprised if some people bid without reading the listing, thinking that they are bidding on the pictured pin, especially if they notice the listing when it's close to ending.

Been seeing that for a while now. Unfortunately it won't make a difference to the general public community that either aren't aware of the scrapper situation, or just don't care. As with any auction I am looking at, it the seller doesn't have enough respect for the buyer to put up an actual picture of what they are selling, then why should I spend any money on them and what are they trying to hide?
 
** mutters** the only way to get rid of the worst of the scrap and counterfeit issues would be for a expertizing and grading system... Which is a whole other can of worms.

ebay links are not supposed to be posted in threads... I think thats the rule anyway. Which sucks in these situations.... I agree, the seller is being misleading. Pictures are supposed to be of the actual items being auctioned. and you CAN report that.
 
That very pin may have been faked, not sure, several in that series were. So, the pin they are showing might show up in the lastest bag of fakes people buy from that seller, or anyone else who peddles fake pin crap on ebay.
 
I'm going to be talking to someone at Ebay (I live near the company and know people who work there) about banning people who sell counterfeit and/or scrapper pins. If there is enough proof/evidence against them by multiple buyers. Only problem is that they can always create a new user name so something would have to be done or have a more accurate system of verifying who the sellers are. Going to be putting all my thoughts down on paper. Also will be doing a post sometime later about ways we can possibly put a stop to people who do this, well at least, for a short period of time I guess. I know criminals/scam artist always find a way around everything its just a matter of time but some are not so clever.
 
Another concern is that if you confront these ebay sellers that are dealing in bad pins, they just block you. Which in all honesty does nothing to fix the problem. Just makes it harder to build a case for ebay. If I get blocked, any complaint i send to ebay can be con-strewed as "disgruntled buyer doesnt like me and is making crap up." I am currently blocked by 3 ebay sellers. 1 because i emailed them about a set of pins they were selling loooong before release. 1 because the first one told him about me I assume and 1 other because I was only politely inquiring about a pin being on original packaging. I assume all 3 are counterfeit and scrap dealers.. They all have really high ratings. Which is another annoying thing.
 
Wow, like blocking you is doing anything to you, lol. I see your point. I saw a seller who had a Disney Store pin for sale months ago that I hadn't seen on the website. It was of the main street series which I started to collect. I have the stitch at opera house, goofy with chip n dale, tinker bell at the train station and the minnie/mickey one. The pin the ebay seller had was one with donald/daisy. Well just this month guess what its on sale at the Disney Store. I am not going to contact the seller though. I don't think ebay will do anything but I am going to give it a try and talk to their security department which I have done years ago and see what happens. If anything they will say they there is nothing they can do.
 
I have seen these listings this seller puts up. It is really annoying that they put up pictures of those fantastic pins when in reality it's a load of fakes.

That is terrible but I've noticed these for some time now. While nothing can be done about scrapper/fake sellers yet, for now with sellers like this you can report the listing:

Just click Report Item in the listing and then select these drop downs.
Report Category: Listing practices
Reason for Report: Other listing practices
Detailed Reason: Chance listings (The listing has an opportunity to win an item or prize either by chance or in connection with a skill contest. This also includes grab bags and mystery items.)

so are there actually any sellers of ebay that sell trader pin lots that arent scrappers? I know I was planning on purchasing some pins to take down with me in December. I dont wanna bring fakes down with me.

Isn't that basically a confession of guilt...? Can't you then do as Pixie said and technically report that since that is not the image of the item being sold? This really infuriates me >:\

Not specifically. but generally, if its too good to be true, then it IS too good to be true. Best bet is here in the sales forum... if no-one has $2.00 pins for sale, you can post a wanted thread for them. Here at least if someone accidentally sends you a bad pin they are more likely to help fix the problem. :)

Check with Bricklayer. He is selling authentic pins for $1.80 per pin. Or check with jadestarr. She has a lot of pins too.
 
This makes me so sad. The first pin lot I ever bought was just a bunch of scrappers. I was devastated when I found out. I didn't spend much on them-- less than ten dollars-- but it still really discouraged me as a pin collector. Luckily I know better now!
 
Bigdaddyashton earlier this year I was scouring ebay and found a seller.I had never seen his name before. Hecsaid he was selling his collection. Buy it know 100 pins 75 $ so I bit. When I git it I was shocked. Every pin was an le most featured artist jumbos a lot of le 100 auction pin and store mint on card in plastic. We were stunned my grandma ended up buying over a 1,000 pins from him even offering more money.
 
Thanks for the heads-up on this seller. I, (as I am sure other DPF members have seen) have noticed A LOT of Disney pin lots for sell on ebay. Way, way to many. I don't even get them a look, if the picture/title looks like a duplicate.

I am SO grateful for DPF...it helps us watch each others back, if you will. :hug:
 
The problem comes that some people don't care if they buy fakes or not as long as they are cheap. The Cms can't really refuse the trade if it looks like a Disney pin. As long as Ebay permits the fakers to sell 2nd run pins in large lots the problems will continue.
