So I read online that Disney is cancelling the 3D release of "The Little Mermaid" (it was supposed to happen in September). Did they already make the pins for DSF? Or is that order being cancelled already?

uh oh.... Well, it might just get changed. or they might be wrong. or the pins might not be made yet. or they could just release the pins without the movie like they did the december DLR PTN pin. lol PTN pin, no PTN. grrrrrrrrr

They will re-release the dvd so that might be an excuse to release the pins as well. Or maybe a limited engagement release at El Cap ala Peter Pan, Mulan, etc...

I guess it depends if they did a pin with "3D" written on it, like the Hanna Montana or NBC marquees. If no "3D" then maybe they still release them. I doubt though they are already on September pin designs, even if they are, they haven't made them yet so they will just do something else.

Noooooooooooooooooooo*pauses for air* ooooooooooooooo! This was by far THE release of the year for me. This is my favorite movie and I was so excited for the pins and to see it at the El Cap... :( Any reason why they cancelled it......? :(

They could still release it in 3d... just not nationwide. It is relatively inexpensive to convert an animated film to 3d. They were already working on it, just with the lukewarm receptions of the last few conversions (Monsters Inc, BatB, Nemo), they didnt feel the marketing money needed to release nationwide was worth it. I bet El Cap will run it in 3d, with the blu-ray 3d release soon thereafter.

That's disappointing, I was really looking forward to seeing it!!
I hope they still release the pins, though!

Except I'm not fine.

This is especially heartbreaking since it's Queen Mum's favorite Disney film and it was slated to be re-released ON HER BIRTHDAY.

I'm also annoyed becuase I was so excited about Monsters, Inc. in 3D, and we searched EVERYWHERE to see it, only to find it playing exclusively in a theater really far from us. There were so many other, HUGE theaters that could have played it, and we had to go to Massachusetts since nowhere in NH had it. Maybe if they distributed these films a bit better, the attendance would be higher and they'd make more money? Bleh. Logic.

... I'm so sad right now...

I am so sad right now... first Little Mermaid on Broadway ended before I could plan a trip to NY, and now they cancel the 3D film... :(

I'm sure the 3D film will be releasedon DVD/blu-ray/3D...just not in theatres (except perhaps El Capitan). I guess we need to find someone who knows....

I will be totally honest... I dont understand the 3D re-release fad anyway... I get headaches from 3D. Even the one movie I saw in the last year or so... I went with the 2D option, but some of the technology is the same and it STILL made my eyes hurt.

As someone above stated, and upon further thought... Chances are the pins will still release as a part of a dvd/blueray combo release with a limited showing at El Capitan.

I would much rather have new TLM pins than see the movie in 3D. Hopefully they still release the pins regardless.

Yes I'm bummed about this really for the pins. They better still release those! ::shakes fist:: if not THEN I'll be really upset! DDD: I agree with psycho pixie that I'm not really a fan of 3D movie bc of the headaches and price hijacking.... But PLEASEEEEEE spare the pins are release them!! :anxious:

I'm sorry, but I am extremely outraged right now at Disney. I have been waiting for years since they rumored to be thinking of Little Mermaid in 3D for it to happen and now they are cancelling it based off of 3 flukes and 1 huge success? Don't get me wrong, I can understand why they were saddened by Beauty and the Beast's failure, but they cannot compare Little Mermaid to Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc., both of which are Pixar properties and let's be honest, both of which have not even a fraction of Little Mermaid's following. I purposely haven't watched Little Mermaid for 7 months because I wanted to completely be taken away by it in 3D on the big screen.

On top of that, I have already told people that I was planning on making a Wanted thread for all the Little Mermaid 3D pins in a few weeks just to guarantee that I could get them all because I was going to make the thread over 7 months in advance for the planned release and now I feel like all hope is lost.

Not only does that irk me but the BIGGEST, by far the biggest disappointment is how Disney went and handled the matter, silently. They announced the cancellation very shyly in a way that I bet barely anybody knows it ever existed. Have they ever heard of shows like Futurama and Family Guy? Both shows were publicly announced to be cancelled after a few seasons until all the current fans joined together and demanded more, both companies gave in and now both shows are huge successes. If Disney has publicly announced its cancellation, they could at least gauge the disappointment and excitement the movie would have stirred from people and if not enough people were upset, fine, go through with the cancellation, BUT AT LEAST GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!

Now the last thing Little Mermaid knows of is the crap-tastic Little Mermaid 3, which had great potential with the whole mother story, but failed miserably. I was really hoping to spark interest in the series again with this release to remind people while it was so good.

Lastly, and perhaps the second most aggravating feature I see is I have no good options, here they are:

If they release the film in 3D on DVD and Blu Ray:
1) I have to buy a 3D TV for thousands of dollars
2) I have to wait years to get one and wait minimum 3 years to see the movie in 3D that I ALREADY OWN!!!

If they don't release the film anywhere in 3D:
1) I get extremely pissed off and have to satisfied with the eventual 2D Diamond Edition release

If they release the film in 3D on DVD and only have it in theatres at special places like El Captain:
1) I get screwed over for being on the opposite side of the US and countless fans as well who don't live anywhere near where the film is playing and I will find this completely unfair.

Thanks a lot Disney, you sure know how to kill a day

Rant over...

P.S. No, no .gifs because gifs lighten the mood and make the tone overall more positive and this is NOT something positive.
