How many of you receive scrappers in trades and what do you do?

How many of you receive scrappers in trades and what do you do?
I recieve scrapper or counterfeits occationally.

When possible i return them to the person. Soemtimes I ask for my pins returned, other time I just tell them to send me something else.

When I cannot return them, i try to destroy them. We now have 3 "high end" counterfeits in our collection that we use to show people at the parks "what to watch for."
 
ok - so no to having a "scrapper treade" so how do we get the scrappers out of the legit trades? Is there a workable solution to this? Other than stop trading?

Well I think that is the million dollar question right there. Unfortunately there is no perfect answer. Have you seem the number of scrappers sold on eBay? Mostly all you can do is educate yourself And find traders that you trust. That will come in time.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I could be totally off base but I think it will be very hard to obtain older hidden Mickey pin of first quality.
 
Scrapers are the bane of my Hidden Mickey collection. I have been collecting Hidden Mickey Pins from DLR and refuse pinpics trades for certain pins now. Of the 2011 Alphabet series I am missing LOAN as they have to be the most scrapped letters I have seen. For 2012 the Minnie horoscope pin is pretty bad too. I have not come across real ones at all.

So true and also true of older CM exclusives. I have tried 5 times between buying and trading for this one specific pin and I still don't have a real pin. I am starting to think a real one doesn't exist.
 
I don't think it is fair to say that folks on PinPics either don't know they have scrappers/fakes or knowingly trade them. Can you say the reverse -that ALL pins traded thru DPF are ALWAYS legit? I've been trading on PinPics since 2004, and I would never willingly or (hopefully) unknowingly trade fake pins. There are lots of good people on BOTH PinPics AND DPF who trade good pins!
 
No one said there aren't good traders out there. The issue isn't that they come from DPF or Pinpics - the issue is they are being traded either knowingly or unknowingly. Getting 5 obvious scrappers in one month puts quite a damper on trading. The five I got came from Pinpics. So there are traders out there sending scrappers for good pins. I would like to try to find a way to get ahead of the problem and find a way to solve it. To date my ratio of getting good pins to bad pins is about 50/50. That's not good.
 
No it is isn't good and unfortunately the ratio of them being out there is much higher than 50 percent. Again look on ebay and search "Disney Pin Lot" and you will find 100's of listings for cheap pins that are or just about all scrappers, overruns , etc. Anyone can buy these lots direct from China to resell and/or trade. I think it is so bad that even Disney themselves can't stop it even of they wanted to.

I think if you posted you wanted a certain pin on this forum there may be someone that has a real one. I don't know which you are referring to but for example we go to WDW in March. Each year we have picked up a certain number of real CM/hidden mickey pins, a handful of ones released at that time. I can be almost certain they are real, especially from earlier years. I try to offer them to people looking to complete a collection if we are not too attached to it. There may be others here that feel the same way.
 
When trading, ask questions and lots of them. How did they obtain their pin? Is it on it's original card (yes, I know hidden Mickey's and Cast Lanyard Series did not come on cards)? Did they purchase the pin directly from Disney? There is nothing wrong with asking questions. Also, take a look at their other traders. If they have several on the fake/scrapper lists, then I would say steer clear. I have many older hidden Mickeys and cast lanyard series pins for trade. I got mine when they originally came out from cast members I knew got them from their managers. All people have to do is ask me when they are trading. Most don't but I offer the information anyway. As for traders who send me a scrapper, I always attempt to trade back, but ask for return postage. Not my fault they don't know their pins. I shouldn't have to be out close to $3 to return a pin. I always ask up front about their pin. I have had 2 incidences where one guy refused to return my authentic pin when he clearly sent a fake. His response was the person he gets his pins from goes to Disneyland and trades for pins, so they are authentic. Uh, yea right. And that if I didn't like when he sent, pick something else off his list...guess what he mostly had... He's on my NEVER trade with list. So, I was out a good pin and threw his pin in the trash, where is belonged. The guy is still trading, so beware people.

This just happened to me two days ago. I got a scrapper of Pin 61068: Star Wars(TM) - Mystery Pin Collection -
Minnie Mouse as Princess Leia and I was SO disappointed but I'm not going to say anything. I do think it was a honest mistake. If it was an LE or a HUGE trade, then I'd be more apt to make waves.
