Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

I wouldn't worry, why wouldn't the Aurora be available in DS Europe? I would understand your apprehension though as buying has been relocated to the US among other structural changes. So Ariel will be a good test run to show if any changes have been implemented for LE releases.

I'm a bit apprehensive because I had wanted the China Doll and then it was only released in the US and popped up onto the UK website a while later for a short period of time [I think, someone correct me if I'm seriously wrong] I really do hope that they start allowing pre-orders in the UK as well, it would seriously calm my 'i need this doll at all costs' kind of thinking.

I think only LE500 Alice & Queen of Hearts didn't get a proper release in the UK. Sgt Calhoun (LE1000) & China Girl were extremely limited and I believe due to demand for these dolls when they were initially release in the US some stock was brought here. Europe (UK/France/Germany) only had 50 Sgt Calhoun dolls available and like China Girl you had to keep checking to see if it had appeared on the site, when she did it was without warning and she sold out within 3 days as people didn't know she had been released.

All the Princesses, including 17" Mother Gothel and Lady Tremaine (these two were online exclusives) have been released at the same time as the US (no pre-orders). You have to remember the US is a huge market which is why they have pre-orders so dolls are allocated to each store with a few extras, Europe is a much smaller market in comparison so has a % allocated.

I'm curious to see what happens with Ariel's release for us Europeans (I need to find out more of the 12" classic dolls to have a better idea) to see if there are any changes.

I'm juss gonna throw it out there again. WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE AN EVIL QUEEN 17" LE? This year was supposed to be the 75th anniversary or whatnot. I want! In all honesty, I learned about the collection after Belle and before Rapunzel. I was not sure if I was on board for this wild ride when I saw Gothel but thought "Yeah...if I don't...I'll hate myself when they release Maleficent and the Queen if I don't have the complete collection." Yeah well...high hopes of a Maleficent FINALLY next year...but...WHERE'S MAH QUEEN?
:anxious:
How weird would the collection look if there was a Vanessa and no Evil Queen? Come on Disney...you know what we want...you know it would sell out...DO IT! ;)

I'm surprised Disney hasn't released an Evil Queen LE. They did the Designer doll and she has a 12 inch classic doll. She is one of the most popular villains and there is no doubt she would be a mega hit especially if she was only an LE of 1500. She would definitely look stunning with her long sweeping cloak and her high white collar. She has one of the coolest costumes I've always loved the bit where she is storming down the stairs and her cloak just glides so smoothly behind her. And they could give her the heart box or even her goblet. It would be weird if they release Ursula/Vanessa and Maleficent but no Evil Queen. It wouldn't feel complete!

Maybe they're saving her for a surprise release around Halloween?

Snow White was the first LE doll released and I think disney was just testing the waters to see how people would react to the dolls. As a result of the demand it resulted in more dolls being produced. This is the only reason why the Evil Queen was not released during the initial Snow White release I am pretty confident that they will release her eventually. It is just a matter of when because her time has come and gone they will have to find another appropriate time to release her. My guess is she will be released after 2014. After they release Aurora (since Aurora is the last classic princess to have her movie released as a diamond edition) along with the other princesses who were originally overlooked such as Pocahontas and Mulan. At least that is what I am hoping for because like most of you I don't think disney can honestly overlook great characters such as Mulan, Pocahontas and the evil Queen.

my guess is they are going to release her as a surprise release too so it wouldn't surprise me if all of a sudden without notice she is released. However unfortunately I don't believe it will be anytime soon, mainly because this year is TLM's year and next year will be Sleeping beauty's.

Ideas people have suggested like 'pink turning to blue dress' sounds beautiful and I'd be very interested to see that. But, I feel like an Aurora LE would just have to be blue! It would be great if there were also a pink one, as Pink Aurora is also very nice and quite popular, but I would be very sad if there was -not- a blue one. The dress is pink when the fairies make it, and at the end - happy moments. It is blue for the rest of the time, and all serious moments. Deep blue is moody, atmospheric, seems more sleep-themed and night-sky like. When she is sleeping it's blue...also I just think it looks better. And Merryweather likes blue, and she's the best fairy :D I am not so keen on the photo's of parade of dreams Aurora :( Pale lilac just doesn't feel 'Aurora' to me. Her dress is either vivid bold blue, or vivid bold pink. And that parade dress looks a bit 'poofy' and tulle-like (OK, Sleeping Beauty is a ballet but I don't want the LE to look like a ballerina, I'd like her to be like the movie) I associate her with having a 'slender' and close-fitting dress as opposed to 'poofy' dresses like Cinderella and Belle. Narrow, strong verticals. 'Column-like'. I would love her to have the very 'GOTHIC' mood and feel of the Snow White, and opposed to the very glamorous and 'glitzy' look of Cinderella. I would love her dress to be velvety! Oh also I would be extremely sad if she had vivid bright coloured eyeshadow - *shudders* BLEUGH. So ideally - Pale skin like Snow white, movie accurate hair, 'slender' dress, deep bold colour dress (very preferably blue), no pastelly blah, ideally embroidered/velvety materials, non vivid eyeshadow, eyelashes that are not...over the top. NO glitter and crystals and sparkly 'glitz', although, metallic thread in embroidery would look nice! Large 'rubies' in the crown like in the close-up of her sleeping would be lovely. Yep. I realy really hope the designer goes with 'GOTHIC' as the keyword and all will be ok. Worst case scenario - The sleeping Beauty will be heavily based on the one from the Maleficent movie, like Alice was for Tim Burtons tototallyrubbish movie. The Maleficent movie could be wonderful but I'd love an Aurora that is the one from the classic that I love. Edit: Just want to confirm that I thought the live action Tim Burton Alice movie was bad but the LE dolls which drew from it were quite nice

1: I KNOW RIGHT! The Queen's wardrobe is like wardrobe porn. It's just glorious! Plus, what I love about it is how it is essentially so simple but packs such a powerful impact and visual and impression.

2: If they released her in October, then it would make my favorite month even better! <3

Yes please! Gothic looks really good when applied to things that are over the top pretty like this. It takes the two total opposite extremes and finds them a very nice middle ground. I'd be so heart broken if they combined Classic Maleficent with Burton Maleficent. For the Queen of Hearts, it worked because it basically glamorized her and was an excuse to make her the same body mold as all the rest. But for the LE Maleficent...no. No no...no no no. She is perfection as is in the Classic form. *IF THEY MADE HER CORRECTLY* by studying the movie and taking their time, then they would have no need to add any bells or whistles. But, if they were to add more gothic elements to her and take her over the top and make her that much more epic...I'm pretty sure I'd actually buy multiples and carry one around wherever I went like a kid and his teddy bear. (And yes...I'd carry it right on in to that padded room they'd lock me in.) ;)

AND! Since I do like the glam of the little crystals they like to add everywhere, these are where I would want Maleficent's crystals. One big one for her ring, hopefully the orb on her staff is a clear gem (kind of like the designer one...just bigger and better), and then all the parts that are pink/red. I'd prefer them done like Lady Tremaine's neck area where it is as if there are more crystals than fabric. Plus, with it being on her collar and mostly in the inner pleated areas of her robe, it adds to the fact that she is a fairy, but with them being semi hidden, it owns up to how she's evil. I also hope that the black fabric is like a black version of Gothel's burgundy dress +/- the crystals.

I can't wait! I want I want I want! ;)

Also, I am SO GRATEFUL that they did not release the Queen with Snow White. I did not know of these dolls until a month or two before Rapunzel. And, you know me, only collecting the villains...I'd be crushed! So, now that I am informed and prepared...they can and should release her. ;)

~~~
Come to think of it, this has me wondering now. My only two grails are the Queen and Maleficent and aren't even released yet. I am wondering what grails you guys have and if they have been released or not.
I'm so excited for an aurora limited doll next year! I'm hoping the maleficent limited doll can top the Mattel great villain doll, or otherwise I'd have no reason to buy her. Also excited for Ariel! Does anyone think she will be as hard to get hold of as the designer Ariel? Also once Ariel goes up for preorder in the Uk, do they charge you then or once she ships? X
Well, to be fair, if the gown used for the parade of dreams was the proper down-to-the-floor length, it definitely would not appear poofy at all. The pictures I chose were her in mid-dance, so the skirts flair out mid-twirl, showing the draping and pleating that went into that gown, as well as the color shifts in the fabric when the skirt flares. When she stands still, it is the proper silhouette, though the hemline is higher than it ought to be so she does not stumble on her gown during the performance. Aurora's gown in the film consists of a skirt made with a LOT of fabric that pleats, hence the many strong vertical lines of her skirt. :) I do agree that the lilac choice is a bit unusual, and I would also like to see bolder blues in a mixed/color gown.
For fabrics on LE Aurora, I can see them using anything from among: satin, organza, chiffon, or velvet for the outer layers of her gown. These are the fabrics that have been consistently used since the start of this series. I'd like to see the core of her bodice made of a real brocade fabric, since we don't see embroidered brocades on these dolls very often (LE Snow White and LE Queen of Hearts are about it). I am fairly sure that they are probably going to give us a tulle petticoat with LE Aurora, as all of the LE Princess dolls have them except for LE Snow White in her very fitted gown. Aurora's gown should not be that fitted anyway with a smooth finish as LE Snow White's gown, given the pleats in the skirt of her gown. Note that Rapunzel's dress in Tangled was a fitted silhouette at her hips, but the LE doll has a much poofier skirt than that.
I am also hoping that LE Aurora and the hopefully-planned LE Maleficent also do NOT incorporate elements of the live-action film. That would make me very sad. They can make 12" Disney Film Collection dolls of the live-action film characters all they want, but I hope beyond hope that the LE dolls are kept to the animated classic film looks.
Just for fun, I'm posting a youTube clip of the Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams, showing that Aurora gown in action. I really love watching videos of this parade, especially the Dreams Come True finale unit (I never got to see this parade in person), and I wish they would bring it back someday though they probably never will. I love parades with periodic show stop performances. It really makes the Disney Parks parade experience a lot better!
My grails are mermaid Ariel, wedding Ariel, Ursula, and Vanessa. I know they won't make all four, so if I had to choose just two I would go with mermaid Ariel and Vanessa. I want Ariel as a mermaid because that is her iconic look and what makes her so different from the rest of the princesses. The scene where Vanessa sings with Ariel's voice on the beach is just so hauntingly beautiful. It would be perfect for a doll and backdrop.
I would also really love Sally, Jack Skellington, and Kida LE dolls, but I don't think that will happen. I can dream though.
Jack and Sally were already done as LE Dolls.
They look pretty cool!love the coffin cases! Glad to see theirs a lot of aurora talk! My biggest grail is designer Phillip to go with maleficent and Aurora! What does every one think Ariel is going to be wearing? For some reason I don't think she will be a mermaid! I'd be surprised if they did ursula or Vanessa in a limited doll! But a big ursula would be very good surprise:) I was watching tlm yesterday and I hope she's not in the 80s style poofy pink dress! Ideally I'd love the blue dress or the dress triton gives her would look pretty!
Yes I'm aware of those. However I was hoping for ones that would fit in with the rest of the LE dolls (like having the same type of box). I thought those dolls were good, but could use improvements. I wasn't that happy with their faces and head molds.
I'm SO JEALOUS *grabby hands, starry eyes* I went to Disneyland Paris only once, and parades were cancelled cause they were on strike meh :( Ooh hey no offense to the parade gown, I think it's gorgeous, sorry I ddn't make that clear. I like the silver and lilac, it's perfect for dynamic movement and reflecting light and stuff. I think she be an excellent 'I am dancing!' Aurora doll!It's just what I truly want... if I were to describe my ideal Sleeping Beauty LE doll...I want...DARKNESS! The tone of my favourite parts of the movie are set in glorious gothy DARKNESS and foreboding! I want her to have luxurious deep colours, but a dark and rigid gothy stiffness. Not a dancing Aurora, but an Aurora about to die. With a medieval feeling. I think of Aurora under a spell, standing perfectly straight, poised to touch the spindle. A dress that is not wide (cause in the movie it is not partcularly, in scenes when she is not holding it out or dancing) A lot's of stiff straight pleats in the skirt :D Like a column..I don't associate her with having many layers to the dress, or any frills aboout the skirt when she is not dancing. Just one 'heavy' layer that is visible. So, if they made an Aurora doll with that parade dress I would absolutely buy. It's just my ideal LE Aurora doll, if I could choose, would be the sort I described XD .The 'I'm about to face my death' Aurora XD
This is exactly what I would like to see for Aurora. I can just imagine the enticing green glow. It would be perfect.
I completely agree. I have always wanted the Aurora LE doll to be very gothic and dark, compared to glitzy and sparkly. But I suppose it really depends on if Disney Store decide to base the doll off the movie (which is very gothic) or her appearance in the princess line (which is much more vibrant).
Ooh yes the green glow, one could make a spinning wheel prop with a green light in it...haha. Two Aurora's though, like people saying earlier, I'm starting to think would be such a great idea. I think they'll just keep making LE's over and over anyway, eventually they'll have to start doing characters twice (I wouldn't want them to suddenly stop making amazing dolls) A Dark Aurora should have a serious face...like in the scene when she's about to touch the spindle, a non smiling mouth but I'd have her eyes a bit more relaxed and not so 'wide' because otherwise it oversteps the mark into too scary! o__0 Ooh and she should have an ornate dark cloak (that does not dominate the dress too much) For Pink dress Aurora, she could be light and smiling...dancing through clouds... omg the box could have clouds on it.Just thinking about Ariel. About Ariel, It would be awesome to have a 'non-transforming' mermaid tail that is part of herself, that bends :D I wonder if she will be holding a fork - PLEASE LET IT BE A FORK! XD
I also kind of want Ariel to have a face that is not too heavy on the eyeshadow, but I have this feeling they will go with something like the designer Ariel Faceup, which I thought was nice it's just I'm not big on bright eyeshadow unless it's Jasmine
Dont forget that they did Tiana in her dress that she was in for less than a minute in the movie ergo based on your theory above her iconic look should be frog form. Also in Aurora's case she is predominantly in blue throughout the movie (apart from her Briar rose dress that she wears initially) and yet her pink dress became her iconic look.
But I can understand why you would want her in her mermaid form, but as others have mentioned it is unlikely due to the fact that it will have to be done really well by Disney or else it will look just tacky. Also a lot of the dolls have been based on their current look in the Disney Princess line up so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Disney went with that green dress look with Ariel. I just hope that whatever they decide to do they put a lot of effort into it to make the doll really look amazing and I will be happy with whatever form/dress she is in especially since they took so much time to release another LE doll.
Also with your comment on the Nightmare before Christmas dolls, I own both dolls and actually think they were done really well and are probably one of the most accurate of all the dolls compared to their animated equivalents. Yes they are relatively simple but to be honest I dont believe there would be many differences/changes Disney could make to really improve on the item because they were already well made. Also the coffin box they come in does suit it very well.
It is just like the Jessie, Woody & Buzz set, China Doll and Calhoun doll, all of their boxes are different to suit the character which I think is a lot more appropriate rather than having them all in the same box style as the princesses as I don't think that would really suit for them. I just think they look amazing in my opinion and am just glad that they did dolls on these characters especially since they have overlooked so many others which I believe deserve a doll too.
I realize that making an excellent mermaid Ariel doll would be a much greater challenge, but I believe that just because something is more difficult doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done. When something challenging is achieved, the time and effort spent is all the more worthwhile.
I do think the coffin boxes suit them well. It's just that when dolls are part of the same line it's nice to have something that ties them all together (it doesn't necessarily have to be the boxes). I'm glad you have the dolls and like them. I will admit that I am a perfectionist and am very hard to please as a result. I just couldn't justify spending $200 on dolls with which I am not completely happy. I tend to expect more for TLM and NBC merchandise because they are my two favorite Disney movies and attention to detail is very important to me.
