Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
I do think the coffin boxes suit them well. It's just that when dolls are part of the same line it's nice to have something that ties them all together (it doesn't necessarily have to be the boxes). I'm glad you have the dolls and like them. I will admit that I am a perfectionist and am very hard to please as a result. I just couldn't justify spending $200 on dolls with which I am not completely happy. I tend to expect more for TLM and NBC merchandise because they are my two favorite Disney movies and attention to detail is very important to me.

That is a fair point and I can understand people having their own personal expectations but I just always thought it a little harsh when Disney releases a doll and it is immediately criticized and put down due to it not meeting ones expectations. I think the fact that Disney just makes these dolls are amazing and let's face it no matter what there will always be disappointment because Disney cannot please everyone as everyone has different wants and preferences.

I too am a perfectionist and I believe most people are but in their own different way with each having a different perception of perfection, for some it may come down to the likeness of their favorite character to the actual animation, for others it may be having a complete collection. So I can understand why you would have been disappointed in the NBC line, I just think if you actually had a look at the item in person as photos generally don't do the dolls justice you will be amazed at how detailed and amazing they look. But hey each to their own, you have your reasons to not like them and I have my reasons to love them.

It is interesting that you mention that you would want something that ties them all together but to be honest apart from the fact that they are limited edition and have COAs I don't see how else you could tie the entire set together. I just see it as different lines of LE dolls, you have the princess or heirloom line (generally limited to 5000 with the villains having darker colored boxes and an LE of just 1500). then another line based on movies and other disney characters with varying edition sizes and varying boxes) and it is because of this distinction that I believe there is currently a consistency between the different lines.

Anyway there are just a few more weeks before they release the preorder for Ariel and I cannot wait as I will be getting one as soon as I can!

I've been dreaming of this Ariel doll, I just want to see a glimpse. I wasn't collecting the 17in LEs when the others were released (which is a shame because I would have been there from Tiana, based on when I noticed them in my local DS - I actually saw the Queen of Hearts, could have bought her and taken her home, and totally passed o-O ) and I missed on Cindy by a few days waiting for my paycheck. I have Rapunzel through eBay, and plan to get Cindy and Wedding Rapunzel soon as well, had Belle and sold her because I wasn't fond of the dress/accessories, so this will be the first time I can get one of this line through DS directly. Hence, the possibility of actually getting two maybe. My Rapunzel stays boxed, though I did open the outer covers to see her COA #.

Considering really trying for two, one to open and one to keep in box as I generally am a boxed collector. How many people are planning to open her and how many people are planning to keep her boxed?

Dont forget that they did Tiana in her dress that she was in for less than a minute in the movie ergo based on your theory above her iconic look should be frog form. Also in Aurora's case she is predominantly in blue throughout the movie (apart from her Briar rose dress that she wears initially) and yet her pink dress became her iconic look.

But I can understand why you would want her in her mermaid form, but as others have mentioned it is unlikely due to the fact that it will have to be done really well by Disney or else it will look just tacky. Also a lot of the dolls have been based on their current look in the Disney Princess line up so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Disney went with that green dress look with Ariel. I just hope that whatever they decide to do they put a lot of effort into it to make the doll really look amazing and I will be happy with whatever form/dress she is in especially since they took so much time to release another LE .

Sorry, I can't say I agree on your conclusion about the 'iconic look'. Ariel's iconic look is that of her as a Mermaid... The movie is called The Little Mermaid for crying out loud, haha. She is also often marketed as a mermaid (yes I know as a human too), and when someone says 'Ariel' I think 'mermaid' - don't you? That is her iconic image. With regards to Tiana, you don't say 'Tiana' and think 'frog' do you? I think of her in the green dress- her iconic look that they market her in - they don't market her as a frog (ever). I don't think that believing/hoping Ariel should be a mermaid means Tiana should be a frog (I dont think iconic in this instance should mean 'outfit worn in the majority of the movie'- in fact, most of the LE princesses are in dresses they wear for only a short period of time, as that would be the only reason Tiana should have been a LE frog - not because that look is iconic.) I really think Ariel should be a mermaid, but I'm not too sure they would be able to pull it off, I'm just hoping for NOT a green dress- she never wore one in the movie, so her LE doll shouldn't wear it - in my opinion.
Only a few more weeks til we find out :-D

All I know is, even though I won't be buying an Ariel doll, I still expect it to be a pretty version of something from the movie. That green dress is a park creation, not anything that Walt had a hand in or has even seen...unless he really is a floating head...anywho... ;) I don't collect the princesses, but I do enjoy seeing all those little photoshoots that others do to show off the details. I can accept the green dress and all...because really, what choices to we have if that's all we're given, but I can't embrace it as anything canon.

As much as I would like Ariel to be dressed in something classic, I think that her new look would not be so bad; I mean, it's basically her mermaid look re-imagined in dress form, which is actually very creative. It doesn't exactly deviate far away from the classic appearance, or feel like she is wearing a completely different outfit. Also, there is a lot of detailing on the dress already, meaning with the doll they have had the chance to get even more creative, such as with the unique sleeves. I just hope it is truly beautiful, which I am sure it will be.

My friend asked @StitchKingdom on Twitter, when the annual Disney Consumer Products holiday preview event will be, and if they will be going, and they responded/confirmed with this: "@disneyliving will be holding a holiday preview party on Tuesday. I and @keithlapinig will be attending". This means that we will most likely get a look at LE Ariel, and any other LE dolls for this year (e.g. a possible new designer collection), this upcoming Wednesday/Thursday (like we did last year, by the video that Stitch Kingdom uploaded on Youtube). Get excited guys, although I guess we have all been excited long enough :hsd:

I never realised until now that the LE princesses have been portrayed in a dress that they don't wear for a long time in their films. I can see the pro's and the cons for both the mermaid and human Ariel form and seriously, I really don't mind whichever way she goes I still want her! Should we go with the above outfits theory then I assume the choices are between the pink dress for her first evening supper on mainland or the dress she wears when her Triton turns her into her human form... the latter one would make a nice transition of the mermaid turning into a human... and considering they done the sparkly Cinderella LE beautifully last year. There wouldn't be a reason stopping Disney from doing that particular dress. Unless they go for the wedding dress... but they didn't do that one for Cinderella either, so I doubt the wedding dress will be shown. Either way, I'm really hoping for news soon... Though I need to do some serious saving up for that doll though. :D

I really hope Ariel is in a dress. For my collection it would fit better. I actually haven't liked all the dolls in this line; Belle had a great face and hair, but I felt the details (beading & sash) on her dress and rose accessory were out of scale and eventually decided to send her to a new home. Tiana is almost perfect, but I didn't like her face sculpt (the Tonner Tiana has an AMAZING face, as does the Fashion Royalty making it all the worse) so I never got her.

I will still try to get Ariel if she is in mermaid form, but I am being very careful about picking up dolls in this line. I don't want to buy one just to sell her a few months later. I hope she has a lovely face and a great dress!

I'm guessing Ariel will be in a green dress, similar to the new redesigns/park dress. All the princesses have been in the dresses they are in at the parks. I don't see why Ariel would be any different especially since they hardly ever have Ariel in her pink dress and never had her in the sparkly dress she had when she turned back into a human at the end of the movie.

So...did you realize what re-releases just slipped right under the radar? Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, and another one I can't remember right now, were recently re-released on blue ray as combos with their sequels. And what classic or LE dolls...or any merchandise whatsoever...have we received for them? NOTHING! Gah! I swear, we should put our ideas in a box, put that box inside of another box, and then mail that box to the merchandisers. And when it arrives...THEY'LL SMASH IT WITH A HAMMAH!

I mean...come on. They have to have some kind of position in the merchandising department where they search forums like this to know what people want. :lurk:
AND! Hello, when I am happy, so is everyone else. Duh. ;)

Sure they have extended designer Mother Gothel's store shelf life by putting her back to her full price...but yeah...they didn't really make those dolls *limited*. If they made a *Princess* Kida, sure it would be a little odd putting her next to the other dolls since she wears less clothing than Pocahontas...but she's still a Disney Princess, there's ample ways around that, and she'd still sell out. Tell me you wouldn't buy her if you were a completion-ist, exclusively a princess collector, or just a Disney fan. And Yzma. My dear Yzma, why doesn't she get any love? She's like the villain version of the forgotten princesses. They could have placed the "lesser known" characters at an LE of 500 like they did with Alice, the Queen of Hearts, and China Girl. The only reason it would take a long time would be because not every one had found out about it yet.

I dunno...I'm just ranting and raving right now cause I just saw those movies when I was out and about and saw no merchandise for them. (What? Out and about...in the outside world? I know, right? ;) )

Also, totally a branch off from this idea, you know who would be ideal for a live action Yzma? Kristen Johnston. (3rd Rock From the Sun, The Exes, a whole bunch of other stuff) Yes, she's far too young and pretty to be visually appropriate for the role, but that's what make up and special effects are for. But still, she is skinny, has long and slender limbs and hands, and has a great and angular bone structure. In like 500 years, she could age nicely in to an Yzma. But what really makes her perfection for the role, her mannerisms and body language. I love that actress and I would love to see this happen. :D Someone should send this to Disney before Tim Burton picks it up and casts Helena again. (Love her to death...but these actors are so over used nowadays!)

Haha great rant Tinkertigg, I think due to how close we are to the expo and the release of Ariel we won't be expecting very much until they are released. I mean im hoping we will hear something about Ariel this week like a sneak peek lr something but it literally is less than 3 weeks to go before the preorders are due to come out. Disney does tend to be very doll heavy around the 2nd half of the year with numerous being released around the same time.

But just like those before them most of the other Disney characters that had the dual movie blu ray release did not have an LE or merch release. This was the case for Mulan and Pocahontas and surprisingly Peter Pan which was a diamond edition release.

I do agree about Yzma I think she would be amazing as an LE doll, there is just so much they could do with her. Unfortunately the emperors new groove isn't really one of Disney's biggest money makers so merchandise is usually limited. Also I dunno if you knew but the reason why Helena Bonham Carter is in a lot of Tim burton movies is because that is his wife. I think overall she has been in about 4-5 Burton films that I am aware of. Also she is going to be in the new Cinderella movie too. Note sure what her role will be but yeah she is confirmed as a cast member.

also on a side note the teaser trailer for frozen came out last week with monsters uni as predicted and it doesn't really show much as it is just a scene between the snowman and the reindeer but it is something to look forward to.

Pocahontas and Mulan definitely don't get enough attention, but at least they both get merchandise including LE Designer dolls. Kida gets absolutely no merchandise. Disney acts like "Atlantis" never happened, which is ironic considering it's the lost empire. I know "Atlantis" didn't perform as well as Disney hoped for, but I don't believe it deserves to be ignored. "Atlantis" was a departure from Disney's standard formula in that it wasn't a musical, used a different style of animation, and was science fiction. When people have come to expect something it is very difficult to branch out from that and be successful. "Atlantis" wasn't perfect and could have used some improvements, but it was a very interesting film about one of the greatest mysteries of human kind. The scene in the cavern with Kida is one of the most stunning and breathtaking that I have ever seen in an animated or live-action film. I can't help but think that Disney ignores Atlantis not only because of it's underwhelming success, but also because Kida doesn't fit in with what Disney has deemed a "princess". Kida is unlike any of the other princesses in that she is almost 9,000 years old and has white hair. If you look Kida up in the Disney Wiki it even says, "Despite being born a princess, Kida is not marketed as a Disney Princess." It isn't right that Kida isn't marketed as a princess even though she is one, but other Disney females who aren't actually princesses are marketed as such. I believe that Disney underestimates just how many fans "Atlantis" has. There is a ton of fan art online for Kida. I think an LE doll of 500 for Kida would sell out quite quickly particularly since only one doll of her has been made and that came out when "Atlantis" was first released. As far as her "skimpy" outfit goes, it doesn't bother me. I think her outfit is appropriate considering that she is a member of an ancient civilization.

Sorry guys i know this is a little off topic but just in reply to Nightmaremermaid. I definitely agree with you it was always bizzare that Kida was left out of the Princess line and I used to always think that it was because she didn't for that typical disney princess formula but after they accepted Merida as a princess I just ruled the fact that she is exclude from the line is due to poor movie sales and popularity.

To be honest most people probably would not remember the movie or possibly even mix it up with treasure plant which came out around the same time nor would they have even associated it with Disney. You don't even see very much merchandise at all at the parks. Also I think disney now has its reserves about ever adding her to the line due to the poor reception if Mulan and Pocahontas as princesses. It's sad but at the end of the day the line really is marketed to kids and whatever is popular with the kids is what will sell. Generally Mulan and Pocahontas have been favorites of the older generation but most kids love either Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Aurora and just recently Rapunzel.

i just believe hat the princess line is just a money maker for disney so there are no rules about qualifications to be a disney princess it's just a matter of 'if it sells, is popular and is a princess, then it is added to the line'

Getting back on track I have been monitoring the D23 expo site for any news in relation to releases. I noticed that a previous comment was made by another member on here that this time last year they released info on the designers and LE Cinderella. I wasn't aware of these dolls back them but where do they usually announce this sort of news?

Sorry this is going to be off topic too, but I'll make it short. Disney did accept Merida as a princess, but they gave her a makeover in honor of her coronation. This caused huge backlash from fans and resulted in a petition that was successful in keeping Merida from being turned into the very thing that she fought against becoming in her film. So Disney does still have their ideal of what a princess should be which they keep trying to push even when their own movies do not support this belief. http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/di...ge--merida-petition-goes-viral-175251230.html

I hope we get a sneak peek of Ariel soon! :) Personally I am fine with her in any form, I just want her to be well done as Disney have taken SO long to make her! <3

When are we all expecting Jasmine to be released as a 17inch doll? She was meant to be the Summer release if I'm not mistaken, but then Aladdin's Blu-Ray was pushed back (or completely cancelled)... what are we expecting now? Next year will be Aurora's year! I'm beginning to worry Jasmine wont have an LE doll... :'( I mean, she's in the 'mid range' popularity as the Princesses go, she is a lot of kids' (and adults') favourite, including mine of course , while not being included on most Princess merchandise with the 'Princess powerhouses'; Snow White, Belle, Cinderella, etc., she is not one of the 'pushed out' Princesses, like Mulan and Pocahontas (which is sad, because I LOVE Mulan, no matter what people say about her Princess status!) I wonder what will happen?!

...also, just gotta slot this in, the diehard Burton fan is calling out to correct a common error- Tim and Helena are not married, they are partners!

Sorry PrincessJasmine you are right Burton and Bonham-Carter aren't married but have kids and are partners. Apologies that was just the wrong terminology used, they are partners and have that connection hence why the various movies together.

Unfortunately Aladdin was already released here in Australia back in Mar/Apr and it was not released as a Diamond edition bluray so I have a feeling that if Disney were to release an LE of Jasmine it wouldn't be until after Aurora's year. So probably not until 2015 as Sleeping Beauty is the last Diamond edition release. Which is a real shame, but i am hoping that in 2015 disney will start releasing LE disney dolls of the rest of the princesses and villains they missed out since there will no longer be an 'October' bluray release. I don't know if that will happen but it is sort of what I am hoping for as I think Jasmine, Mulan and Pocahontas would look amazing as LE dolls. Plus it just wouldn't make sense if they make dolls for all princesses except these three, it just wouldn't seem right.

Haha, no worries! :) A lot of people make that assumption, and they have worked together in a ton of his movies! I am quite excited for her to play the Fairy Godmother in the upcoming Cinderella film... what does anyone else think? ^_^

I know what you mean, Aladdin was already released here in the UK too on Blu-Ray :/ I hope they do come back and fill in the gaps with the missing Villain and Princess 17 inch dolls, too! It's only just occurred to me Jasmine, Poca and Mulan would be the only 3 missing when they make Ariel and Aurora- silly me! I hope we can all eventually collect a full set of 11 Princess dolls, 12 or 13 if you include Wedding Rapunzel and the Brave 2 pack! :)

And then there's the very likely possibility we may see a Frozen 17 inch doll or two... will Anna and Elsa eventually be accepted into the Princess group?! There'll be 13 Princesses if so... when does the line stop, or when do Princesses begin to be 'thrown out' of the Princess lineup? This scares me, as I fear some of my favourite girls will be the first to go if this happens! :(

What I really love about Ariel's new look, is the fact that when she sits down, it resembles her tail; thus creating a combination between both of her mermaid and pink dress looks. It is a very imaginative idea, and totally works, so I wouldn't mind seeing it on the LE doll; as long as they manage to pull it off perfectly right :D

I think it is very likely we will have a LE Jasmine next year. From what I've read Aladdin was supposed to come out this year, but because of an anniversary Peter Pan got pushed out instead. Hence the lack of proper PP merch.

Aladdin actually had some pretty cool tie-ins that came out this year that must have been planned before the switch. My favorites include the Sephora make-up line, and an appearance on Sofia the First by Princess Jasmine (it was Cinderella for both last year, around the time of re-release). Also, Aladdin is in the Disney Vault, whereas Mulan and Pocahontas are not (though maybe they should be, and properly merchandised, but whatever Disney.... either commit or make a new representative princess please).

I think Jasmine is the most popular of Disney's often-neglected POC princesses, though them seemed to have changed her and made her Indian for some reason (?), when her fairytale is clearly supposed to be set in the Middle East (kind of a mixed message for folks if their favorite princess is suddenly a different ethnicity, that would never happen to a white princess, but again....whatever Disney). Aladdin in the books was originally set in China, I also think that would have been cool, but I don't mind how they did it.

All this to say, Jasmine is a pretty popular girl and I am excitedly anticipating seeing a LE doll when her film comes out in the spring.

I never saw Atlantis, but it annoys me that Kida wasn't ever part of the Princess line. Same with Eilonwy from Black Cauldron. If Disney would market them, perhaps they Will find an audience. If you don't market them at all, they will be forgotten.

I understand the Giselle thing, they can't use her because of Amy Adams likeness - but really - did NO one at Disney think of this beforehand. I find that so hard to believe.

I remember when they included Tink with the Princesses so I guess things could change. I still wonder what they intend to do with Princess Leia now.

I think Ariel should have the Mermaid look, and maybe the surprise doll can be her in the pink dress, or the blue sparkle dress from the end of the movie. But, now that they made Vanessa - if it follows what happened with Lady Tremaine, I'm thinking they will make Vanessa as the surprise doll - with a cape and all.

Maybe Vanessa as a bride?
