I think it is time for a new series discussion!

This topic is to discuss the different designer sets that have been releasing. I attempted to thumbnail image and put pin numbers for each set. So far we have the original designer princesses, Designer villains, Designer couples, Designer booster pack shoe; princesses, and coming soon the designer booster pack shoes; villains.

I am trying to include as much info on each set as possible. If you see anything that needed to be added, or changed please post on here and I will adjust it. This is to discuss the pins themselves, not Disney’s release methods or the current resale value debates. Speculation as to future releases is welcome.

I would DEARLY LOVE anyone who can get actual images of them, and a side by side of all the LE designers together would be absolutely awesome! I am reserving a reply space right below the OP for images of these fabulous pins.

Designer Princesses. 10 pins. LE 150. #85994. release at the D23 expo in August 2011. SOLD OUT. Some of these pins are reported to have paint dips and minor flaws in production. NO counterfeits reported as yet.

Booster pack Designer shoes; princesses. 7 pins. #90874 Released at the parks in 2012. open edition These pins unfortunately have been counterfeited as well as sold in scrap lots on eBay. The best way to get these is via a park regular still in package.

Why are Hook and Hades high heels? Just for alliteration purposes? Hook wore black shoes with like a 2" heel I suppose. Hades, not so sure on, did they ever show his feet?

edit: Now that the edition sizes are fixed, what the heck? Why make them different? Seems odd. I guess they are going in the right direction at least, higher LE. Maybe next set is LE300? Designer Princes? Maybe?

My thoughts are they should continue and rotate characters and get different designers every year. Stick to Princesses (random selections from the princess court,) Villains (All Villains are fair game,) and Princes (Either with their princess or not.)

I was curious about this a well, and my assumption is that they needed 7 villains. High heels were originally worn by men, not women. So i suppose it is allowable. I think Hades was barefoot. lol

I don't really like the Designer Princess pins because they don't look like the characters at all. To me the best one is Snow White.

I'd have to go with Malificent on the Villains.

And Hades on the shoes. The mental imagine of Hades in high heels is too funny to pass up. There's a reason he was the outcast.

I always thought the shoes were high heels of the characters. I don't think they are shoes the characters themselves would wear, but what they would look like if they were shoes.

I really like the designer series, but I'm more into the dolls than the pins. I do want any of the designer Ariel and Tiana pins though, but I'm not really interested in the other pins. I do love the designer shoes and I cannot wait to get the villains.

1) In general, I like the creativity in taking these iconic characters and merging them with fashionable imagery. Normally, I am into "canon" looks staying as they are (re: Aurora's bangs), but these were actually handled nicely.
-As for each set, for the 2011 Designer Princesses, I like that they are for the most part recognizable in their 50's/60's couture looks. Designer Cinderella is a bit suspect, but the pumpkin coach and pretty gown save her.
-The 2012 Designer Villains are a lot more campy, but still very in character. I like them a lot as a concept.
-The 2013 DFDC includes the princes. 'Nuff said.
-The Princess Shoes take things in a different direction. As evlover mentioned, it's taking the costumes and iconography and turning it into a recognizable shoe. Well done. Their matching ornaments are awesome.
-The upcoming Villain Shoes are a bit off the deep-end, which again keeps in character. You cannot mistake who these are supposed to represent.

2) What do I not like about each set? Hmmmm...
-For the 2011 Designer Princesses, I am not a fan of updos. Designer Aurora and Designer Belle in particular suffer greatly by this in my eyes. They could have given them fancy hairdos without going with these matronly updos. Also, some princesses seemed to receive more attention than others: Designer Ariel, Designer Snow White, and Designer Rapunzel show me more thought in their designs as dramatic pieces than say: Designer Pocahontas or Designer Tiana. All are lovely, but equal attention was not given to all. Also, the LE size is too low.
-The one thing I dislike about the Designer Villains is the back views of Designer Queen of Hearts and Designer Mother Gothel. Designer Queen of Hearts is passable, but for Designer Mother Gothel in particular, her pin suffers a lot by her face almost being wiped out by the shape of the pin. She could have turned her head to coyly look at us. Also, the LE size is too low.
-The DFDC pins are actually well-designed. What I do not like with them is the usage of the newer style of glittery paint, which makes them look cheap to me. Only choosing five couples seems like a weird strategy to me. Also, the LE size is too low (sense a theme?).
-The only complaint I have about the Princess Shoes is that Belle was left out. I get that the Parks pin booster packs are usually 7 pins at most, but really?!? Also, these have been counterfeited (though that has nothing to do with the actual pins).
-The Villain Shoes are definitely over-designed. I think if they scaled back on a few elements on each one, these would look better. The extant ornaments for the villainess shoes are very gaudy...

3) Home run or swing & miss?
-2011 Designer Princesses are a home run, despite the updos. It was a very original concept and brand new at the time with a lot of "wow" factor.
-2012 Designer Villains are a great continuation of the Designer line. The campiness of their over-the top natures lent a lot to the haute couture concepts. Home run.
-2013 DFDC is a great idea, even though it is riding on the success of the 2011 Designer Princesses a lot. Still, it is a home run.
-Princess Shoes: home run.
-Villain Shoes: Swing & Miss. They look a bit silly, because they are over-designed.

4) Future hopeful prospects?
I am hoping that if they do continue the Designer thing, that we will eventually see more neglected ladies, or even guys, featured.

I think there is a good chance that they will if they do make another Designer collection or continue the DFDC. Since there is no D23 Expo in 2014, and since this year's DFDC seems to be very popular, and the fact that they did release the Designer Villains pin set online last year (another non-Expo year), the precedent is already there.

I think they will since they released the villains during a non-expo year. Expo or not, people will buy these pins/dolls, so it seems pointless to wait two years to do another set. I have a good feeling they will release another DFDC set. They did all the princesses for the DP set, seems logical to do it for the couples as well.

Not too keen on the designer villian shoes...there should not be a hades or captain hook high heel. If they designed those two in a more manly fashion, I feel that would have been ok, but not some girly looking six inch heel

As for the other sets, they are just beautiful. It would be nice to actually own one too...DP Mulan!!! Yeah!!!

I tend to see the designer shoes more as a 3 inch heel, not a 6 inch.... just based on angle of arch and length of heel compared to length of shoe.

I would like to see the villians finsihed off, A villian for every princess, so we need another 6 villians to go with the oringal 2011 princess.

Id also like to see the other 5 couples


and of the leading ladies is a fanstic idea for when theyve finsihed the current sets, ..... but by that time ill likely be broke!! lol

I was wondering the exact same thing when I spotted it! I thought it might have been a mistake (like the gold on The Princes' tunic, or the Queen of Hearts' bow), but it's in the artwork too.

I have heard that there is not one. I haven't seen a picture of one yet. Kind of strange!
