So i would say i do most of my trading on pin pics. And i haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood).
i sent out out a request yesterday and got a response this morning. The person responded that they agreed to trade, sent me their address, and told me they would mail mine after they got d/c from me. This is the first time someone has asked me to mail mine first, although i know it is not that uncommon.
I decided to check his references and he only has 3 dizpins references. I have much more references than him.
i am just wondering what everyone thinks? Should i take a chance and just mail my pin first and hope he mails mine? Im torn because its a pin i really want, its the last dsf lady and the tramp train pin i need. Also just wondering if anyone has traded with this person before, i do not want to post their name but the initials are ML and from OK. (Not sure if i am allowed to post that). They also have anonymous pin pics name. I just do not want to get burned if i mail my pin first.

I would say that if you are the person with more feedback and experience, you should be asking them to send first, not the other way round. Why don't you ask if they are on DPF so you can see if they have feedback on here? As a newbie trader, I would expect more experienced traders to ask me to send first, but wouldn't ask them to if they had far more feedback than me. So personally I think you'd be entitled to say you're not happy sending first when their feedback is so low. Perhaps do it through a moderator?

I agree, it should be vice versa. I would not send a pin first to someone who has 3 references, you should explain this very nicely and have them ship first, IMHO.

You can get the DC# and not actually mail until you get a DC# from them. They only asked for a DC# before they shipped, not to actually receive theirs first.

Personally, I've always just exchanged adresses with the trader and sent our pins at the same time. I always use tracking numbers and provide them once the pin has sent.
I myself, do not have that many references on dizpins ... it seems only 1/3 of the traders have left references for me (I always try to leave a reference regardless). I would probably suggest sending them at the same time or inquiring why they insist in you sending yours first.

Chroll is right, that's what I would do and tell them you want a DC number from them also. You can even wait to mail yours until you see that the post office received their pin just to be safe.

I would nicely let them know you have more references and ask they send first (3 is not enough in my book).

To the ones above saying get the DC# and then not mail, sounds a bit shady to me. I'd be pretty upset to find someone sent me a DC# and then waited to actually mail the pins until a later date.

how is it shady? I have tracking slips on me, and I can give the number of the one I will use right away, although I can't get it to the post office that quickly. to me, its a time saver!

The pin hasn't been mailed. When you give the other person the #, have you told them it's in the mail, or that you still have the pin in your possession? I never give a tracking # (it's no longer called DC) without the pin being in the mail. I give a specific mail day and then send the tracking # after it's been mailed.

I dont lie, if thats what you think! also, as soon as the bar code is scanned, you can see exactly the date and time via the usps website, so its not like you could pretend to have shipped on a Monday and then ship on Friday and the other person not realize and be upset.

I think giving the tracking immediately is a good faith, same as telling them that you intend to ship. if I give them a tracking number but do not get a reply by the end of the day, I might not ship that day. usually, I get a reply of "thanks, here's yours" and I pop theirs in the mail. I used to give the tracking after I had physically mailed the package, but a few times people would get back to me with they changed their mind! this is after we both agreed to trade and exchanged addresses. so Im older and wiser now and do not ship in a trade until I have received a number from them, too.

I only have 1 reference on there.... I've made 30+ trades on there. Also, I've never left a reference on there (that I remember anyways).

I always point people to DPF, which is where I prefer to get my references.

Since I just started online trading 1.5 years ago and joined this forum a year ago... this site has been my main avenue for trading.

I should add that the only reference I have is from a trader that's been trading for years and years. Dizpins is their main reference site.

Do a lot of new traders get references on there?

I normally mail my pins out right away but the only reason I said what I said is because this person really wants this pin but is worried about the person they will be trading with. (which they have every right to be with this person wanting a DC number before they will mail their pin out, especially since they have a low amount of references.) Since they really want this pin they may be afraid that the other person may get upset and not complete the trade if their motives are questioned, so I was just saying (just like Chroll) that they can give the other person the DC number and when they get the DC number from the other person and see that the pin was sent then they could mail the pin out. It's no different then asking the other person to send their pin first because of their low reference count and you will mail theirs out when you receive the pin that they sent.

For the cost of the average pin, I'm willing to take a leap of faith and trust that the sender and receiver are going to send the pin.

In this case, it appears that one party is asking for the Delivery Confirmation number (now called Tracking Number) to be sent, as confirmation that the item is being mailed. This seems to be part of how they like to trade, which is to propose a trade, confirm the trade with the exchange of mailing addresses, and confirm the package is in the mail with the inclusion of the D/C - Tracking Number.

I'd do the trade and ask them to also send a Tracking Number for your package.

As for feedback, I don't think it is out of line to ask that they leave references where you want references; be it here or on DizPins.

Thank you everyone for your input, I really appreciate it.

After talking to another dpf member who had shady dealings with this person, I have decided it is in my best interest not to trade with them.
Hopefully i will find my last dsf lady in the tramp train pin somewhere else. :(

If it is someone w few refs, but good (frequent) emails. I've asked for the tracking #, & THEN I give them my tracking # to them. I then ask them to email me when they actually mail. As soon as I get THAT email, I mail- usually the same day. Has worked for me in this situation. This is NOT "holding pins hostage"- just keeping the trade "on schedule" IMHO
