Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
No worries:-) I got my Ursula and Prince Eric that way. I think had I purchased one at a time I might not have gotten both due to resellers buying them all up! I'm going to help everyone I can by going to store like I did for first Frozen release to give others who can only buy online a better chance:-) I hope everyone is better this time:-)

I'm planning to put them in separate orders and hope they go through. Last year, I put them in the same order and they only shipped Anna (even though they marked that they shipped together). It took a month but I eventually got Elsa

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just started collecting dolls this past year because I finally have enough money to justify buying the dolls. I started lurking here with the last Frozen dolls release and was going to introduce myself but life got ahead of me. My collection is small, just the Frozen dolls and the 5 sets of designer couples. This will be my second time buying online and I'm even more nervous about getting these dolls even though last time went smoothly for me. I guess I was just surprised at how quickly the dolls were being released for preorder and with the popularity of Frozen I can see them selling very quickly.

I'd like to join FB page as well. I'll PM my info.

The Diamond Edition DVDs supposedly stop in 2016 and that is how the older Princesses have been released with their Diamond DVD. So we should be reasonably certain to get Aurora and Jasmine. But Disney has been all over the place with these dolls, so I am sure they will continue but I was sad about not getting a Tink or Wendy with the Peter Pan Diamond edition. So I really don't know who they will honor with a doll outside of Aurora (Mal & Philip) and Jasmine because it seems like they think Pochahontas and Mulan won't sell, yet they have issued dolls with very low edition sizes so I don't know why it is such a big deal for them. The Tonner line ended without Pocahontas & Mulan too, so I am not optimistic about ever seeing them, but they would make gorgeous LE dolls. I agree the dolls will go on, but I can't imagine which way they will go unless they start doing repeats in different outfits.

Where did you learn the end date? That seems like a really long time from now...but will come up so fast. I wonder if the first doll will be Snow White and the final doll will be...THE QUEEN! GAH! It will be a super crazy long time to wait for her to finally be released...but...as long as she's released, I'll be happy.

I do really think that they will and should end it eventually, only adding to it with new princesses, villains, and prince dolls to commemorate new movies. If they didn't end it, then it could become a collection of really really obscure characters and multiple releases of princesses that are only in different dresses. I mean...it could work in our favor if they do start pulling from those dusty old archives. ;) But...all good things do come to an end.

I'm at the point where I have to think long and hard before getting new dolls because I'm running out of space but I really don't think disney would kill a golden goose.

Before the 17" LE dolls there as a line of porcelain dolls. I'm not sure what the next line of dolls would be but I'm certain that we haven seen the end all or be all version of say, Snow White. They'll probably keep going with the 17" LE line until it stops making money, wait a few years and then start another limited edition doll line.

I believe it was announced a while back that the Diamond Edition releases would cease from 2016. As you know Disney loves putting their movies back in the vault and them releasing them as a different edition later. Originally they had the platinum editions which were just dvds of the movies and then with the new bluray format they released the diamond editions. The only difference is that there are more features. I know I have the platinum edition of TLM when it came out and I remember they had a Disney singer revamp Kiss the Girl like they did with Carly Rae and Part of your world for this diamond edition. So it looks like it is just a pattern that Disney dolls to change things up. It is a smart idea because by doing this they make people want to buy the movie again even though they already have it. I have about 4-5 Disney movies where I have the platinum edition dvd but still bought the diamond edition for it even though it is the same movie.

I dont think they will end the dolls but I just wonder what they will do going forward once the diamond edition has completed its run. The two editions actually followed on from each other where Snow White came out as a diamond edition in the fall of 2009 and Pinocchio came out as a platinum edition during the spring of 2009. So unless Disney then decides to release a new edition type which I dont see likely (unless we get another format for media that is better than the blu-ray over the next two years which is unlikely since we are now moving to more digital media) Disney will have to start basing their LE releases on something else other than the Diamond editions. They have done this in the past with some releases coming out based on movie releases e.g Tangled, PATF, Frozen, Wreck it Ralph, Oz, Toy Story 3 etc but I definitely see the doll releases slowing down after 2016 which I actually prefer LOL especially since I am running out of room fast to display these dolls especially if they keep doing a designer line annually. So a slow down in LE dolls (say once or twice a year) would be nice. Makes them rarer and more sought after since the releases will be scarcer.

I'm actually getting a little nervous about this release! I keep seeing people talking about them on tumblr and giving people tips on how to get them. At least the edition size is bigger than last time. I might cave an make a fb account for the group.

The next line of designers I would hope to see after the DFDC dolls would be a Disney heroines line with characters such as Megara and Esmeralda which would translate into some epically gorgeous dolls. If they were to do well as designers there is a chance that Disney would take notice of this and maybe make them into 17" dolls as well or at least one would hope. The initial ones may be released the same way they did Eric where they have lower edition numbers for them to be able to test the waters without a lot of risk but if they were to sell well they could continue with others later thus continuing the line of 17" dolls. Oh My Disney! I would love more than anything to own a beautiful rendition of Meg.

One thing I have found though is that if Disney has too large an edition size it will actually kill the hype of the doll as people become complacent with the release. This was the case for the designer villains (LE 13,000), Merida (LE 7,000) and Wedding Rapunzel (LE 8,000) if you notice all of these dolls whilst amazing in their own right and should be demanding more in terms of value on the secondary market have not hit the $200 like most of their counterparts have, I mean even Cinderella has hit that mark, not sure about Merida as I know there may have been one off purchases where she was bought for greater than $200 but in general she hasnt been selling for as much as many of the others.

The saddest one to see are the designer villains, these poor ladies are selling at less than retail on the secondary market even though they are amazing and in some cases a lot nicer than their princess counterparts.

So I do agree a heroines line is way overdue and I really would prefer it this year (to give us a break from princesses) but I know that is unlikely. Hopefully they will still do the heroines line but if they do I dont see it happening until 2016 at the latest.

I would be surprised if Disney did not incorporate the newest princesses into this year's designer line because Frozen's merchandise has probably made as much money as the movie has at the box office in the US especially since Disney knows that if they stick Frozen on something it will sell like crazy. Heck take that silly Cross U pin for example, there was such a huge debate over whether or not it was a Frozen pin and just because it was somewhat attached to Frozen it sky rocketed in price. It really is ridiculous and I think Disney know's this hence why they are releasing these characters as LE's again. So I would be very surprised if they did not include them in some way to the designer line this year as I would expect their coronation to be around the Sep-Oct period which is around the same time the designers are generally released. Also usually during coronations more merchandise is released where they have been incorporated into the princess line up.

Yeah, this release is def more hush hush. A lot of CMRs are playing dumb or coming straight out and saying they're not allowed to say.

I only got a response from one person, and it was because he knows me really well. It's stupid. Some of us book time off work for this--we need to know if you're getting any dolls, lol. Not that I mind taking a vacation to go wait in line outside a store for toys, I just want to know if I should wait outside your store or another.

I completely understand. In my state there is only one store! I'd like to know if it's worth my time or not.

I agree with this... I see so many people enamored with this set on Tumblr, even more so because of the exorbitant prices of the other set they might have missed. I'm all for people helping others out, but now there are so many different areas to get the information that I feel like people are turning it into a sport and as much good as these blogs do trying to help people understand the chaos, I feel like they are only adding fuel to the flames and are going to cause a frenzy. It is sort of the same thing that happened with pin trading. Back when I was younger (like, about eight or so years ago when I was 10-12) I used to pin trade and it was fine to even get on the Disney Store website halfway through the week and still have LE pins to buy that hadn't sold out. Somewhere along the line it has gotten so crazy that most of the time I don't even bother. Unless it is a park pin since I have an annual pass because usually those will at least be out for a few days.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love new people getting the collecting bug and growing communities, but I wish it were a little more hush hush, which is part of the reason I started watching the Forum around when I bought the designer Villains and finally joined when it seemed a lot more people were coming out of the woodwork. I think it is nice to help others, but I think that people should also just experience it first hand and learn from their triumph or their mistakes what works best for them, instead of hearing "rules" to make the journey smoother that in turn build up a lot more panic than giving good assistance.

Good morning everyone! Does anyone know if the links to the dolls on Friday will be posted here in the forum like they normally do or will it just be posted on the new FB page? I'm nervous because my request to join on the FB page hasn't been accepted yet. Those links have been a lifesaver for me since it is impossible to find the dolls by just searching the Disney Store website to find them at launch time. Thanks everyone!!

Just sent a message through facebook

I'm getting nervous too for the release. I know the edition size is bigger, but there seems to be more information getting out around the internet about them. I too have seen lots of posts on tumblr. I'm wondering if it's better to order them separately so it saves time and I get at least one doll, or if I should risk wasting the time and putting them both in the same order.

Does anyone remember how long the last set were available for? I woke up too late to get them, but I think I recall it being under an hour.

I'm nervous too. But mostly because I'm pretty sure I will cry over everyone who can preorder while I have to wait until March lol. Life is tough.

About Tumblr, can anyone direct me to some nice Tumblr pages about the LE dolls?

I understand what you are saying. With my first LE 17" doll, Merida, I missed the boat and bought on secondary market. The Merida/Elinor was an easy score because they didn't sell out for 9 mos. I had preorder from just waking up and placing it whenever I saw it that day. I was interested in Disney dolls because of Animator series and my newly bought Merida; I then stumbled across this forum.

With Ariel, I was lucky. I had been lurking on the boards very casually and did not really know about links. I read that you had to get up at 3 am est. I did that and no Ariel. I didn't understand why the people on this forum said it would be available when clearly it wasn't. I kept refreshing until around 3:20 am, when she finally appeared on Disney Store. Lucky me, she did not sell out until second day.

By the time we were waiting for her to arrive, I had stopped being a lurker and cautiously dipped my foot into commenting. It really is scary because newbies feel ignored. Everybody else is chatting away, and you just hope no one yells at you to to get out. Then someone responds to a comment, and you feel validated. :hs:

So then I learned about the links and how most people don't really see the LE merch appear on Disney Store until way after 3am est. This can be detrimental with some dolls like Frozen, since they sold out before they went live for most people. If I had not known about links, I would have kept refreshing the page only to have it suddenly appear with SOLD OUT next to the doll. I started using links from link fairies to purchase the Fairytale Couples and for Frozen dolls. Frozen, I had to go to Fb because this site crashed.

So, yeah, I learned and was very lucky to have learned the ins and outs without missing any dolls I wanted. Learned by trial and error. It does seem like some people just want to score one, not because they love the craftsmanship but to brag that they got one or to sell it for jacked up prices. Nothing you can do but prepare yourself. People love the hunt and that predatory nature in humans comes out with some of these dolls. LOL.

I'm really hoping these two last longer. We have a bigger edition size, more are allotted to the US, and while there is movie hype right now we don't quite yet have the same following that Ariel has or that the designer dolls have, and it seems like the stores themselves are not promoting them. So maybe they will last longer. At least that is what I am hoping because I want all of us in here to be able to get them easily.

I did call my Disney Store as a back up resort if I can't get them online, but they had no clue what I was talking about!

Mine too, eventually I had to speak with a manager who would only confirm that they were being released for pre-order but wouldn't tell me how many :P

I guess with all the secrecy at least that means that if you aren't a collector, you won't really know about the release. This at least cuts out the general public (I've noticed that the Designer line is more popular with them, maybe because the 17" LE line is so spread out and almost impossible to complete at this point without dropping some serious cash for Snow and Alice). So that's the bright side.

But honestly I could tell the manager at my store was lying to me. And I'm not sure that's a great customer relations strategy? Like, don't promote it if you don't want to (though I have to question that from a business sense, anyway, you would think they would want the general public who has embraced the movie to know about them), but I'm pretty sure they recognize me from the previous doll releases, and the info is already out there anyway on your official blog. They could have said "we don't know how many we are getting yet if any" rather than deny the existence of the dolls themselves.

I think mine genuinely didn't know. She's super nice, but she isn't the most knowledgeable person at the store. If I had talked to someone else I might have gotten a different answer. I wonder if only select employees get that information.

I am sort of glad Disney Store employees either genuinely don't know or are superb actors. :P I asked my manager and he finally told me they were pre-ordering on Friday. Last time we got 10 Anna's and 9 Elsa's, so hopefully there will be enough now that the word is out and these are a hot ticket item because of the Frozen label. I've been really lucky for the past two 17" releases being first in line but I don't want to take any risks or get too secure! As much as we love these dolls, I bet there are a lot of CM's out there who dread when new ones come out because of the stress and prospect of angry customers. :P

Hello! Im new to the forum...well kind of, I've been reading it for a while but have just never posted anything...i'm excited about the LE Frozen dolls being released this Friday, i'm also super nervous...I totally failed at getting the last set of Frozen dolls, the site crashed and it was just a mess. So fingers crossed that a bigger edition size will help, but Frozen has been so popular who knows what it'll be like.

I'm actually getting a little nervous about this release! I keep seeing people talking about them on tumblr and giving people tips on how to get them. At least the edition size is bigger than last time. I might cave an make a fb account for the group.

You might try contacting Polaris since he did make a FB account already. I'm nervous about these ones although logic tells me it'll be fine. For the last pair the US had an insanely small percentage of the dolls (considering anyone in the world can buy from us). This time it's possible that more people know about the dolls, but there are a lot more available. I htink it will be a lot like the LE Ursula/Eric and the LE Frozen first release. The early birds get the worms. I just wish that the shipping process wasn't so stressful for people. My Elsa came in about 10 days after I bought her, but Anna took until the end of December. I wish you the best of luck!

Polaris: I did "practice" buying stuff also to make my check-out process faster. My pretend purchases will be here in a couple of days. Whoops :)
