Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

The LE dolls are more valuable than the Designer dolls I think. Not only do they look a lot better and are more detailed generally they are lower numbered and end up more expensive on the secondary market. The majority of the designers are not that expensive apart Ariel on the secondary market.

I think it depends on the doll and the edition size. Some of the Designer dolls are just as limited or even more limited than some of the LE 17 inch dolls. For example there are only 4000 Pocahontases made while there were 7000 Meridas (I think I got the numbers right). And the Designer dolls seem to be more sought after by the general public.

Oh I know some of the designers are low numbered but the villains are very easy to get and the majority of the princess's are not to hard to get for a decent price. The LE highest number is 8000? While the designers have 13,000 but yes their are sought after dolls in each collection. I personally prefer the LE dolls as they look more detailed and special but each to their own :)

Yeah, it depends on the doll. Those villains had crazy high numbers. But I even see some of them selling for more (Evil Queen and Maleficent). I think it is hard to compare a collection as a whole rather than to the sum of its parts.

I thought the Fairytale Couples were just as detailed as the 17" LEs, but the original Designers are much less detailed. Hence why I haven't gone nuts trying to get all of the first release. I just don't love them as much. With the exception of Ariel, Pocahontas, and Tiana who I do want to get.

Great, are the designer dolls better than the LE 17" ones? Are they more valuable/collectible?

Complex answer really. I think in terms of resale prices, LE 17" Snow White and LE 17" Alice are the most expensive. LE 17" Elsa has hit the $500 mark and may continue to go up, but she's fairly atypical. The other 17" LE dolls range from retail to $300 depending on the specific doll.

Of the designer dolls, the original princess line was what started the frenzy and each doll had a different edition size. Ariel is the most 'valuable' to a reseller. Then there was a villains line. Disney really made WAY too many of them (LE 13000) so they are generally not that expensive on the secondary market.

The Fairytale Couple collection is only half done. They were edition size 6000, and it depends which doll set you are looking at in terms of price. Belle and Ariel go for the most, while Jasmine I've seen for retail.

If you are just starting, I would concentrate on getting the ones you are most interested in to start with because at this point there are so many it can be overwhelming. My personal opinion is that as Collection of dolls, my favorite is the Fairytale Couples line, but there are some dolls in the 17" LE line individually which are absolutely beautiful too.

Thank you Caroline. Think I will stick to getting the LE 17" . Just don't know what to go for next?? There all really expensive now :(
suppose it would not be fun if it was easy to collect :)

I wish I had started from the beginning too! But I console myself with the thought that Disney doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. When Snow White comes out of the vault for bluray release again, they may release another version of her doll? In fact, given what she goes for on ebay, it would be a missed marketing opportunity!

What ones do u have Caroline from disney store and what ones have u purchased elsewhere?
yes maybe u r right, will that decrease the value of the original ?

I doubt that the 2009 LE Snow White doll will go down in value, even if they make a new doll, because she has such a long-standing reputation of being one of the most costly in the series. In general, people just won't let her go for less than a certain amount. The LE Snow White doll is one of the most "classic" looking collectible Disney Store dolls, so her appeal can extend beyond being a Disney character fan. I think the only way for the existing doll to go down in value is if the next Snow White doll (if there is one) is a far more superior doll in terms of design, execution, and of course limited availability. It's all about supply and demand! :)

Yeah I don't think the original will go down at all even if another Snow is made. Although if they did make a new Snow it would be nice for those who missed the first. I think they will release the evil queen though and not Snow again but who knows! By the time they have done all the LE dolls(2016) they could get bored and start a new collection instead of the heirloom.2009-2016 is a pretty long time for the same collection but who knows. It keeps it exciting not knowing what's next.

In the same respect I don't think the Coronation Elsa will affect Sq elsa on the secondary market:)

Oh my gosh.
OH MY GOD.

They better not ever do that. Ever. I love the first few Disney Princesses A LOT! And I'm sure many other people do too.

I don't think they would do that, though. (Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself.) I'm sure if they did, God forbid, lots of people would be complaining and they would just have to bring the Princess (or Princesses) back. I can imagine angry mobs.

Hahaha I was actually more worried about less popular princesses like Mulan and Pocahontas (Two of my favorites) than their older girls who are still quite popular

17 inch dolls are bigger so they can add a lot more detail. That is usually the case with any doll line. 12 inch dolls are smaller and take up less space. They can do quite a bit of detail on them but not as much as the bigger dolls. So it just depends on what you like to collect. I like both sizes.

I truly hope they go back and make all the "missing" dolls when they're "done" with all the releases. Definitely the Evil Queen, and I'd love them to do the guys, since they did Eric - but I'm not sure if they would (Cindy and Snow's - and kinda Belle's - princes haven't actually had names), but what I'd REALLY love would be to have the male villains shown more love! 18" muscley Gaston, 18" twig-sized Facilier, and when we get Jasmine, 18" Jaffar!

Couldn't make a case big enough for Gaston

Right!? They would sell, Disney knows they would sell. I feel like Eric was a tester to see if a male in this collection style would be successful. While I've never seen him in person, I think he was a huge success. He didn't even last an hour online. Even though some people now are saying things like, "Well...I bought him because ____ , but he really isn't my favorite", Disney still made a nice profit reguardless. The males could be released every month and they'd still sell out...not without complaints of cost of course, but still.
I think that, *if* there is a 17" Phillip released alongside Aurora, then there will be an Aladdin with Jasmine next year. If they do (as they should) and make a Maleficent, then it sets a larger precedent that the villain should be released too and there's a stronger chance that Jafar will get released. He should have a smaller body mold made, but if they really built up the shoulders, utilized his vertical lines, and put in the right details...then they could make a convincing and successful Jafar. The only problem that Jafar and Facilier both have is their hands. (Yzma would have this problem too) They are nothing like prince doll hands. They know we want these dolls, with all this time on their hands...they have plenty of time and resources to make them and make them well. I'm just not patient enough to wait! ;)

It would be too much to make him lower his barge-sized biceps!!

I could see that being an issue.

I once bought LE Merida off eBay and when it arrived it was a mess ! The shipper box was destroyed , the doll was a disaster. I was heartbroken and fuming. The seller said it wasn't her fault and no refund. Until I got eBay involved. Full refund including shipping. Under eBay rules until the item is in my hands , it's the sellers responsibility. Always get insurance !!!!

I don't think it's just ebay I had a seller from a store do that to me with an LE 17" Ariel doll, dolls box arrived horribly damaged, I could never get an answer from the store or a refund.
Insurance doesn't help you always, I got a 17" Cindy and the box was damaged nothing really bad, USPS refused to pay the insurance because the doll it's self was not damaged. The seller refunded me my shipping cost, and I was happy with that.

I think they really should do an Aladdin 17" because the movie was named " Aladdin" after all ;)

I am almost certain they will do a 17" Phillip, I am really looking forward to anything Sleeping Beauty that comes out and next year when they re-release Aladdin, I can't see them not doing Aladdin, he is the main character.

AMEN TO THIS ^^^^^^^^

I would be happy either way but they got to do an LE 17" Aladdin doll, preferably in his Prince Ali outfit. & I want them to surprise me if they do Jasmine in her turquoise, purple, or red outfit :D

Personally I am hoping for Aladdin and Jasmine in their purple outfits from the end of the film, when they sing the "A Whole New World" reprise. We need more purple in the lineup. If Aurora or Jasmine end up in blue, I will scream lol!!
