Guidelines for Fridays release Published By DSS
I really think it's insane that pins are released this way. Let's talk about the number of people that can actually participate in this? I understand this has been going on for awhile but, correct me if I'm wrong, lineup just gets earlier and earlier. What type of guest experience is it for hundreds of people to line up before the sun rises for a CHANCE to get the pin they are interested in? I'm obviously far detached from this and I have to rely on ebay if I'm interested in GSF releases but I just feel like this is terrible. Kudos to everyone who goes to these releases and still sells the pins they acquire.

They do the releases so early on Fridays because people usually work 9-5 jobs, and they would be able to go to the release and then to their job afterwards.
I am one of those people who will be going to work after the release in the morning.

I live in Encinitas, so a little bit north of you- and I usually give myself 2 hours until the time they cut off the line. You can pretty much count on no traffic at 3 AM lol, and it takes about an hour and a half from my house to hollywood.
Thanks for the info! I live over by State, so about 15mins North of you :)

I envy you all who live near this place. The frustration on how it is handled is understandable to those that live close enough to go for each release, but I think it would really just be part of the experience for me, if I could ever go. Something to be seen as fun and exciting, not so much a chore. I live up in Maine and must rely on eBay for what I want at the moment. Gets expensive pretty fast.

Good luck to you guys, though! I really hope everyone gets what they wanted! And extras for trading/selling, hehe!

I'll be going, probably only to get one set, but I'm excited for this one! Hopefully I pull a good number this time! I wonder how many people will show up, more and more keep coming it seems.

No, that's not the reason... I think we proved quite well that there are hundreds of people that can spend multiple days living in the alley waiting for pins... :)

The last release was Fri at 8am, and the next one is too (WiR), there's likely some event happening at the theater/store at 8 or 9 am and they need us all out of the way before that happens... In the past the 5am releases have been for that reason.

I guess Ed was just pulling my leg then lol.

I asked him at the last release why this one was so early & he said, "do you have to work on Friday?" Yes. "Well, now you can come get your pins and then go to work."

It made sense to me at the time, ha ha.

We are used to the early releases and the long lines and the waiting and the kooks on Hollywood Blvd and the bad smells in the alley. Are we crazy or what? I better go to bed early tonight.

rik1138, if you look at the flyer for this month the only Friday release is "Lady and the Tramp". The last release was on Saturday and WiR will also be on a Saturday (Feb. 22). I just want to clarify when pins are being released this month. This is not to say that a future release that doesn't involve a marquee won' t be on a Friday.

Well, keep in mind, he didn't answer your _original_ question, he baited you with another question and gave you a response to it... :)
But, how did you know the release time at the previous release? They only announced it 2 days ago... Or did I miss something? (The flyer has always just said 'TBD', but I might have missed some other announcement or info...)

And if that really was the reason, the time would have been announced when the flyer was released, as it would have been their intent all along. It was likely a 'TBD' because they didn't know if there was a morning event on opening day or not. Every past 5am release has been that early because of events at the theater (usually a 'character breakfast' with a group of kids that then go see the first showing of the film, those events start at 8 or 9am, and they have to set up the breakfast area first).

Maybe that's not the case this time, but it has been in the past, so I just figured it was a similar reason this time. :)

Either way, it's just too darn early! :p

Yeah, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that... :) But there have been past Fri releases at 8 or 9 (although it does look like most were 6am)... Maybe it's only the Sat 5am releases that were for the breakfast parties? But still not sure why the flyer would say TBD if they were planning a 6am release all along... There was some decision being made.

5am:eek: I guess I won't be going to bed tonight lol. I get out at 1:30am from work, get home at 2, pack up the car and drag mom out of bed and leave by 2:30, drive an hour and a half and get there by 4(just to be on the safe side, don't want to take any chances on getting there late). Am I crazy or what?!?!?

Remind me to call Batman for help instead.
You haven't heard???

crazy for pins. lol

Now you just have to watch out for crazy drunks driving 100 mph in the wrong direction of the freeway! :nono::facepalm::crazy:

I have actually witnessed a car drive all the up the exit ramp (going the wrong way of course), enter the freeway, and head right toward me. I stayed on the inside lane, he just passed me in another lane and kept going until I lost sight of him in my mirror... Not sure how that ended, but kind of freaked me out.
