Being from the UK, and being unable to get to Dlp. I admitted defeat of collecting frozen at all. However, I feel that the prices has gone over the top for the pins, and for frozen merchandise in general. Yes I know supply and demand and all that, but what is the limit?! Also, the amount of stuff that is being released is mainly frozen and other princesses, so other collectors are missing out on pins etc. I would love to see an unfrozen release!
Honestly, I am sick of frozen now. In my opinion the film was nowhere near as good as Wreck It Ralph, or other Disney Classics.
Am I the only one that has got to the end of their tether with Frozen?
 
Actually I haven't even watched it yet, so I won't comment on the movie itself.
In any case, I completely agree with you, I recall when UP or Wall-e came out, nothing more than a bunch of pins were released (at least in Paris). Now Frozen pins are everywhere...
In my opinion on the long run people will get fed up and the price will dive, also as a consequence of the pins that have been released. Probably some hardcore collectors will keep on looking for the pins they're missing, but the prices will be more or less aligned with all the others...
 
There is no limit, imo. People pay for what they want.

And there are plenty releases without Frozen (or with other princesses). I'm actually really annoyed at the many Rapunzel releases because I can't keep up. I do agree that the non Frozen releases get buried under the hype of Frozen. Edit: I can still enjoy Frozen when I watch it but I never thought it was as good as most people said it was.

Personally I welcome the glut of releases- I wish theyd do like they did Stitch and stick those girls on anything they could- Happy Autumn, happy thanksgiving, happy labor day etc- flood the market so the demand drops back to a reasonable level...

there is no flippin reason ANY pin should cost hundreds over release price..

While there should always be grails it shouldnt be because they are the only pins released...

Wholeheartedly agree on the huge hype that is Frozen, but sellers definitely know how to take advantage of the market. Prices are that high because people are willing to pay for it. As long as there is a demand and willing loaded customers, those prices aren't going down.

That being said, my wallet and I are super happy that I am not a Frozen collector :P
 
I never understood the appeal of Frozen in the first place...thought the movie was ok at best but have no problem with the throngs of people throwing their money at the merchandise as it takes the focus off my collections. :coffee:
 
There needs to be more Frozen, but more open edition Frozen. Do I want the Elsa stained glass? Yes. Am I really ever going to obtain it without spending more than airfare? No. And that includes any Frozen releases from DSSH and WDI. But that's okay. I don't need to be a completist. Even 1000 or 2000 of the jumbo wouldnt be enough for the demand. But as long as they keep on churning the characters on a mass scale, like the recent individual Olaf, Elsa, Anna, and starter set, then that's okay.

Because the demand was huge. When UP and Wall-E came out, sure there was demand for their pins, but definitely not overwhelming. IIRC, in the first weeks after Frozen was released, hardly any Frozen pins were released and people were going crazy. Even OE Frozen pins were selling out and going for crazy prices. I was in WDW in January 2014, almost two months after Frozen's debut and there was not a single Frozen pin to be had in the parks. CMs said they were due any day though. So Disney did what people wanted: they started making tons of Frozen pins at all kinds of edition sizes. The demand for them has only built on itself since then, and I'm pretty sure not all of it is due to love for the film.

Sooner or later the market for Frozen will crash, or at least deflate, much like Tangled has done. There will still be the grails everyone wants in their collections, which will remain very expensive, but a lot of the more common LE's will surely go down in price.

Totally agree about more open edition pins needed! Because of the hype and the expense, I've decided to settle for just collecting open edition Frozen. I just can't deal with the scores of very expensive, hard to get pins that being released lately.

I agree with GreyWyvern, I'm pretty sure Frozen will go down. I think Stained Elsa might stay where she is (or at least end around some Tangled grails) but I think the last release will go down. The first DSF Olaf has already gone down and since the last release I've seen the jumbo go from $300, $200 to $170. It's all personal taste, though.
 
I don't even collect Frozen and I too agree that the market is being flooded with too much Frozen. I know several people who have now decided to start trading their Frozen pins. The hype is over and they don't want to collect it anymore.
 
If you look at it from a marketing standpoint, Disney is definitely benefiting from the hype of Frozen.
As a business that is what they should do. However, the secondary market is going crazy and the
cost of the pins is so high that "regular" pin traders cannot enjoy them. On the other hand, I am
getting very tired of all of the Frozen stuff being released.
 
It will settle. Tangled was (and still can be) bananas. Stitch was bananas before that, and Jessica, and PTDs can be crazy, etc. I think people are getting fed up and selling/trading them away. And that's fine by me, more out there to hunt down lol. I don't think they will stop producing pins of any LE or OE size for a long, long time. Disney is going to suck the life out of the fans because of the film's success and popularity. I know I can't afford to keep up this completist thing for much longer at the pace they are being released, but that's okay. I will get them down the road. Everything comes down.
 
Just wait for the next big thing to come out, then Frozen will become a distant memory.

But yeah, I agree the amount of Frozen pins being released is a bit annoying. I liked the movie, just not as much as everyone else, apparently.
 
I havent seen the Frozen movie yet, I was waiting for the price to come down like other dvd/blurays, but it hasnt.

I really love some of the Frozen pins, I would love to collect them, but am not prepared to put myself and my purse through the heartache! I wouldnt want to collect all of them, just a few special ones, which is what I do with Rapunzel and other characters.

I have no problem with the number of pins released for anyone film, if the designs are pretty/original. Its when the same designs keep getting released that I lose interest.

Ha Ha, I kind of feel the same way. Frozen Fridays! If people think the market for Frozen is too much, good thing they didn't live through Stitch Saturdays and everything that came with it. Even with DSSH and possibly WDI, pumping out low edition sizes on a regular basis it's nothing like what Disney Auctions was doing in terms of putting completist collections out of reach. There are like 300 LE100s, and like 900 DA pins just for Stitch. So as frustrating as this is, it's not too bad!

Against my better judgement, I am sucked into this nonsense. Price of being a Winter Solstice baby, I think. While it is sometimes hard to remember to "stay calm," it seems like with each super low pin release, the more people declare they've had enough. So while demand among resellers/traders seems high, I'm not so sure about demand for people who actually just want to keep them.

Disney does seem to have accepted the characters, especially the girls, into "normal rotation" so I do think we'll continue to see them in mystery and booster sets, and the POM series which tend to be higher edition sizes. Short term, even the LE1000 or 1500 pins may be overinflated, but long term they should be manageable. Even things like the PTN and new marquee at 750, should be manageable long term. So I think, nice Frozen collections will be possible, even if they aren't completist.
 
I'm a huge fan of Frozen, loved everything about it, but damn.

Disney. You're overloading everyone. These pins are being sold for hundreds of dollars above retail, now I know that Limited Edition means higher price, but 20x's the original price is outrageous. There are A LOT of Frozen pins. I'm just a casual collector that gets what I like, but with this Frozen stuff, I may as well forget the movie exists.

Want a Frozen pin? 200$ please. The amount of OE vs. LE is crap.

It's basically 5:15 when it comes to OE vs LE (not actually, but it's out of whack)

More open editions would be lovely, and appreciated!
 
Yeah as a frozen collector I'm just going to try and focus on oe for now. But in terms of LE pins being released lately, yeah, a lot have been frozen. But concerning OE, no, I wouldn't say that at all. As my college program was ending they were releasing TONS of pins from all different movies.
