I have been doing some house cleaning and updating my database for some of my Disney Auction (DA) pins from years ago. I have to say that without a doubt some of the designs and art work is stunning. Especially compared to what is coming out nowadays on the pin market.

For those Traders who have joined the hobby after DA became defunct, do some digging and take a look at some of the stuff from the past that they issued - you will be amazed. And for us "oldies" who have been around for awhile - we were lucky to be able to get these pins for our collection when they were available.

I unfortunately found out about DA pins after they had been discontinued, there are some very beautiful pins from those auctions. The princess 'Seasons' pins are particularly gorgeous! Ariel DA pins are often my favourite representations of her. <3

Most of my favorite pins are DA. I have a few and they look, and even FEEL better than most of the newer pins. They are heavy, high quality and detailed. I really wish they would have something like DA again for collectors/traders around the world.

I always enjoyed the DA pins. They were always my favorites. When Disney Shopping online took over from DA, there were other lovely pins, so newer collectors, don't forget to look at those. Like the DA pins, they tend to be larger with more detail.

That was my "who can afford to keep spending $30 (or more) on one pin...," phase. I do have several of the P.I.N.S. DA pins, but only about 5(?) LE100s.

I wish I understood how big they really were, but I didn't have any opportunities to really see them in person, until it was too late.

Unfortunately, I knew all about Disney Auctions when I was in late grade/middle school. Not being an adult back then sucked. I've been trying to get the Ariel Nouveau since it came out, but never had anything to trade or enough money to buy it on the secondary market.

I had one on the sale board a couple weeks ago but didn't get any hits. Here's the one I was selling, it's a really nice pin.

Agreed that the DA pins were the best of the best. After all these years, I'm still missing the very last ONE for my collection. Argh. The Hep Cats jumbo pin in my sig.

Someday...

Likewise! All of those Tinks which came out would have sent me into a dizzy!

Ahh, the good old DA days!! P.I.N.S were my favorite. Something for everyone, decent LE sizes, ect. Too bad I went so broke buying them..lol My all time favorite was going to Cast Connection and getting many for as low as $5 each, still in their packaging!! The PWP, higher LEs, went on cast lanyards!! I can remember strolling thru PI during the day and picking them off lanyards. Sigh....

This is why I have the ones I have! The first year, my parents moved to FL, my Mom bought all the Beauty and the Beast, Alice and Dumbo ones they had and gave them to me for Christmas. Heaven. But my all-time favorite...the CM pin parties where you could buy 2 grab bags that came in Ft Wilderness brown bags like for lunches, and they had 2 DA pins, a lanyard, a build-a-pin base and couple add ons, and 3 or 4 additional pins! Cost $10 each. I never got to go, but my Mom would occasionally save the bags for me to open.

I agree, Mike...we love the DA pins we still have. We had a really nice collection at a time my husband was in to pins & I was growing to like pins & my husband thought it best to sell them to help pay for our wedding. The wedding was beautiful & I wouldn't trade it for any amount of pins, but I really miss the Stitch with Tigger Slippers...ugh!!

By the way, a shameless promotion, we have a couple of DA pins in our HUGE sale...

I used to go to those. My CM friend didn't want his grab bags and would give them to me!! Best deals ever at the CM parties!! Rows and rows of discounted pins in baskets...sigh....

Too true. "You just don't know you have until it's gone". I'm still working on getting DA Tigger pins on my Wants List!!

Debbie, any Tiggers in your sale?? TTFN :tigger:

Ah yes those fabulous Disney Auction pins!!! And even after DA stopped the DisneyShopping.com pins were very nice ... for a brief period of time! Fortunately for me, I was able to get several different P.I.N.S. as well as several of the LE 100 pins!! There are still many more that I wish I had been able to get! I look back now and think ... I didn't spend $75 to get that pin because why? Because now they are going for a few hundred dollars, lol!! Oh well ... money is a fleeting thing with me  I do love the pins I have!

Isn't interesting how your taste and desires change ... I have TONS of Stitch pins and while I still love the little blue monster, these days I seek Alice and Cheshire pins as well as Disney Kitties, Pirates, Maleficent and SOOOO many others! :x:

Love the DA auction pins as well, sadly when disney auctions was still around i was focusing on collecting hm sets at the parks :P. The auctions pins that i have now are just stunning, and I wish disney would release more pins similar to the auction pins, which in my opinions would weaken the fantasy pin market (not against them just dont see the point in collecting them).

We were lucky enough to know one of the artist/designers that worked for Disney Auctions. The stories she used to tell... I guess if there were any LE 100's that did not sell at the auction they went to an employee sale. She literally picked them up for $0.25 each. We collected for years and had every Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pirate, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast Disney Auctions pin. When we stopped collecting about 8 years ago we gave most away to friends. We are now kicking ourselves as we try (keyword TRY) to get back some of our collections. Never thought we would see pricing like this for those pins. In any case, they are by far some of the most quality and beautiful pins out there....

Regards,
Eric and Cassie

I've just recently learned of DA pins and now they are almost impossible to find or VERY expensive. There are three Emperor's New Groove pins that I'd love to have!

I love that Tink pin! I don't collect Tink but I am making a Christmas collection that it would be perfect for.

When DA was at its height, the biggest demand was for Stitch followed by Tinker Bell. How many remember hitting that blasted refresh button to watch each pin come up as it listed and then not being quite fast enough to get the one you wanted?

Just a gentle reminder that the hot character of today might not be quite as difficult to get tomorrow.

So because of this thread, I took a look at what DA LE100 pins were for sale in my price range. Found one that matched my primary collection. It's an older one, so not as big as some of the later pins. As fate would have it, the day after I bought it, we went to an Antique Mall and I found something that the pin was sort of based on. The pin is modeled after the pocket watch, and I found the wristwatch version, but it's the same middle image design; a Revolutionary War era Mickey that Disney used for it's Bicentennial items.

Great find on both accounts, congrats!
