Look at those nice, clear, beautiful widow's peaks on Maleficent and Grimhilde that they won't give Belle. Maleficent's in particular would be perfect for Belle.

Ha! I never even put that together. I bet they only gave them the widow's peaks because their characters have the pointed cowl and head piece in the cartoons, but you are right. It's almost like...um...have they seen the Beauty and the Beast movie?
 
I know we've only had Snow but I wonder how Disney are feeling about her not selling out yet. It's a tough one because on one hand they've gone back to basics with the edition size but maybe it was a bit too soon to do princesses again? I just hope this doesn't put them off for future ideas. For me I knew I wouldn't be able to get all of this set because I was lucky enough to get the original 10 so I'd never have enough room and I just couldn't justify the cost so I'm only going with Jasmine & Belle.

Its almost like their was no happy medium Disney went all out with this collection, well especially with pricing so it put a lot of people off. I suppose in one respect this is good because it gives collectors a good chance of getting the dolls. I think if I wasn't lucky enough to get the first 10 then I'd probably be getting this full set.
 
I definitely agree that the retail cost of $120 plus tax will definitely make it harder for scalpers to try and resell the dolls. At the end of the day these are dolls and not necessarily investor items. No where on Disney's site do they mention anything about the set increasing in value. Also as mentioned by Shivatopia the high LE will put off people paying more for the doll (that is unless one ends ups being very popular and in demand). Disney should have seen this coming with the slow sales of the first LE double set which is still up for sale since its initial release. Granted the DFTC set looks a lot more detailed and is not as expensive but the price tag will really put a lot of people off because really they are just dolls so in order for people to justify paying more for them is if they see value in them.

It is because of this that I think dolls such as the initial LE line such as Snow, Alice, Tiana, Belle, Rapunzel and Gothel have increased in price with some even increasing more than what they were at a year ago. Especially with Alice and Snow because they really have that old english porcelin doll look which is a classic look that makes them more of a collectors item than a glammed up play doll. One doll that Disney did do right by was the LE China Doll, even though she cost quite a bit of money at retail because she did look amazing and only had a small LE people saw the value in her hence why people have been willing to pay over double for her on the secondary market.

Also I noticed a lot of people have said that they are glad that they did miss out on the initial line but to be honest unless you actually own the dolls or have them in person as monst people have said on here you cannot really appreciate them. When this DFTC line first came out so many people opposed it and only started warming up to it after they saw the actual dolls and I think this is the same for the initial princess line. Yes Designer Ariel was the first release and appears to by the most popular but in my opinion it is because she does look amazing and really is a collectors item that you would pay top dollar for hence why people have been paying higher amounts for her.

Dont get me wrong i for one have always been a fan of this current DFTC designer line but sometimes simple can be better as it can resonate elegance whereas too much of something can make it look tacky, a lot of people have mentioned that they love the detail put in the princess's dresses which I completely agree with but what about the princes? Some of them look completely off or their clothes look too big for them and the thing is you are buying the set so the princes' will always be in there and if you were to remove the princes the tag would still include them so I for one think that yes this is a nice set to look at but will probably have more of a similar effect on the market like the designer villains and the LE Cinderella doll. They will have a bit of a price increase in the secondary market and some may sell out quickly online but overall as a set will not be as difficult to collect as the initial line was.

I think if Disney were to put this much effort on single dolls and retail them at maybe somewhere between the princess and villain price and have a low edition size this will make the collectors love the line again, so much so to cause issues like dollmageddon and over inflated secondary market prices. It really is a double edged sword for Disney because they want to please everyone so and try to make it so that the collectors are the ones that buy it which I think they did correct for this current line as it looks like they ticked all the boxes for collectors to be the only ones buying these dolls but at the same time the set loses the hype and crazyiness because it doesn't become an item everyone wants. So really disney will have to choose which they prefer whenever they release these dolls. I think they year they chose to satisfy true collectors which I appreciate more as I know I will always love anything limited or exclusive released by Disney, especially items like this with so much detail that you can show off at home haha.
 
I was blown away when my Disney Store said no returns on this item. It's like they already know they will go on clearance later and don't want to have to refund any full priced purchases.

Separately, it's amazing that the full set preorder sold out so fast and that those who hawked it on ebay already were able to get more than double the price. Sharp contrast to the individual sales of Snow alone.
 
My gut is telling me that Snow White will be the least popular of the collection. I'm almost completely certain that when Rapunzel is released, we'll have a totally different response. From what I have heard people saying at my store, Snow was one of the least favorite designs, plus, they had the variant for her, so many of the die-hard fans got that version of her. At my store, they sold out of cups and journals with Rapunzel and Flynn and Ariel and Eric on the first day they were available. Snow White and the Prince and Jasmine and Aladdin seem to be the least popular, with almost all of their merchandise still in full stock. Honestly, we're going to have to wait and see what happens, but, I'm still going to be right there at my stores the second the clock strikes 12 for all of the dolls, just in case I'm wrong.

And thank goodness the site is back up! I just joined and was worried I broke it!

Officially, most limited edition merchandise is supposed to be ineligible for returns at the Disney Store, unless it is damaged or defective. The Designer dolls and the 17" LE dolls definitely fall into this category. These items are usually ineligible for discount promotions (until they go on clearance the way the Designer Mother Gothel doll did last weekend). Prior to last year's doll releases with many of the Designer Villains dolls and LE Merida & Elinor, all other limited edition Disney Store dolls always sold out before going on clearance.
 
I actually really like Snow White the more I look at her but I don't know if I want to pay full price :3 I might wait and see if she gets discounted. The only other set I really like is Belle and I might try for that one because it seems to be pretty popular. I like Ariel but I am going to be Arieled out with all the other merchandise coming out and Rapunzel's pose is a bit of a turn off. I might try for Jasmine and Aladdin if they get discounted as well.

I agree. Especially if the series picks up with any of the other doll couples, there is a higher chance that people will want to pick up the other previous sets.

Oh my gosh, that's soo pretty! I don't know if I could do that though - even though it's GORGEOUS out of the braid. The braid is still cute!

Hey guys. I was at my Disney store the other day and I managed to get an extra set of the rapunzel and Ariel mugs. I know a lot of people wanted them. I will be selling them at $9 each with tax and shipping.

EDIT: I regret to inform you guys that I have already sold the mugs. It was first come first serve.

My closest Disney store is an hour away and I don't really have time to go again. If I could I would have gone and gotten you guys some more mugs, especially those of you who live in Europe. Maybe someone else on this forum is willing to do it again.

And best of luck for whoever is trying to find the mugs.

And FYI, Broomfield Colorado store has a lot of the mugs.

I think I'm in a minority but I love Snows braid! But also like it down(looks exactly like the concept art) but don't no if to leave or undo her hair! What's everyone else going to do? Was it easy to do?
 
I wonder if part of the reason they went with the braid is because there was no way to make the concept art hairstyle keep shape during shipping. It seems like they're packed in the display cases to cater to arriving in good condition, with all the plastic and bindings and stuff.

I'm for sure letting down Snow's hair, but I can only imagine how she would've looked if the manufacturer had styled her that way.
 
Question for those of you who have opened your Snow White to reposition or to unbraid her hair: was it a heinous nightmare getting the case back on? Does anyone have any best practices/tips for doing this easily? I read a few pages back that someone really strugged getting the case back onto their Designer Princess doll with the backing in place. I ask because I'm planning (like most of you, I imagine) on repositioning Rapunzel so she doesn't look like she belongs in the Exorcist, and I'm trying to decide how challenging I think this will be... Thanks!!
 

I believe that may have been the case. Snow's hair is very textured so chances are if they kept her hair styled like the concept art, a lot of people would probably have snow sporting an afro puff or look like a toddler got a hold of the doll and tore her hair up.
