Why is stitch such a big deal with pins? I feel like he is the most marketed character right now besides Mickey, anyone understand why?

No, I almost posted the same question myself yesterday. He's like a cuckoo, always appearing where he shouldn't be! I really dislike him, although I loved the movie Lilo & Stitch.
 
I know. I'm torn now. I collect Splash Mountain pins but there's one with stitch in and I can't face getting it lol
 
Stitch is the ONLY character I collect. I love Stitch because he's so subversive in an utterly cute and adorable way. Also, the kind of versatile character he is lends itself to a brilliant amount of creatively done pins that entertain and amuse. I especially love pins where it is both Lilo and Stitch. The theme of true friends was brilliantly portrayed in all their movies. That is why Stitch to me is awesome!
 
i collect stitch pins cause he was just so abnormal from other Disney characters in the since hes destructive,random, but can also be cute when he wants to be.
 
Stitch became huge in Japan before Disney started marketing him. He pretty much became huge overseas in Asia before anything big came up here, but then I guess Disney saw his potential. I don't really understand either why they focus on him, but I'm completely fine with it as I want to start collecting different Stitch pins (where he is interacting with or dressing up as different people/characters). I can't tell you for sure seeing as I don't work for Disney, but I'm pretty sure it stems from the fact that he can make many cute facial expressions and he can act like an animal without being an animal (for those who aren't a certain type of animals fan). If you think about it, he is one of the first main characters in a Disney film who can pretty much act exactly like a human with all his capacities but at the same time act like an animal.

And like the commercials leading up to the first movie (where Stitch ends up in multiple movies [lion king, Aladdin, cinderella]) it isnt uncommon for him I guess to show up on numerous "styles" of pins


Probably not only that, but he is unique in his own way :)
He wants to behave thanks to lilo, but he still does have those instinctual destructive thoughts
 
Stitch is just adorable. One of the collections I have is the Stitch Invasion pins as I think they are some of the nicest pins that have been done and can not wait for somewhere to do some more. And those pins like people all ready have said stem from the movie build-up clips they released where he invaded other films.
 
Plus, he's a good counterpart for the Princesses. If you think about it, girls have lots of characters to collect—all the princesses. But most of these movies focus on the princess, and the prince is an after-thought or just good marriage material.

Stitch is a character that little boys can identify with. Trying to be good, but having and acting on destructive impulses. But still being good when all is said and done. This is one reason Stitch is so popular on pins. Before Stitch, I'd have to say that Tigger would have been the #1 draw for boys, or maybe the Cars characters?

I loved the pre-movie marketing to put Stitch in other movies, and I love to get pins with Stitch pretending to be someone else in another movie or dressing like other Disney characters, or historical figures (Lincoln, Washington, Einstein, etc.), or whatever.
 
Urgh I totally agree, he's so over rated - not to mention when you tell people what film hes from (bare in mind I'm a Disneystore CM) they have never heard of Lilo...plain irritating. Oh and can I throw something else out there....?

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH TINKERBELL?!!?! Hahahaha...she's so annoying!!! Lol :)

Someone came into work the other day and asked if we sold anything Peter Pan and I said "only Tinkerbell stuff...not much else peter pan" and they didn't even know Tinkerbell was from Peter Pan :| ...that was my face :|

I agree he is put on almost everything , sometimes unnecessary. But the movie had such a good story and he is funny and cute. There is so much they can do with him and a lot of his pins are really nice. Unfortunately Disney seems to overdo some characters and completely ignore others. I've had enough of the mickey group, main girls and tinkerbelle. Lets get some more Hercules xD but people like what they like and presumably more people like the mainstream characters. Can't blame a company for making money.

I don't believe he is "the most marketed character right now" if you go into a disney park or online store the first things you'll see are the fab 5 or the princesses.

Stitch has a huge following within the pin collecting community, but he doesn't have a huge marketing scheme. There are many reasons to like him as previously mentioned by other members, but it is a bit sad when people are "fans" of him when they haven't seen the movie.

In light of your original question, you can say the same thing for Jessica. Why is she such a big deal in pins? Why is she everywhere? It's simple, there are a ton of people who collect her, and disney knows that if they release a jessica pin it is sure to sell out.
 
Stitch is absolutely adorable and he definitely appeals with boys. I work with kids and once they see all my Stitch stuff they go crazy. I am so glad that Disney is finally catering to the boys - cars and Stitch (so tired of the princess and tinkerbell stuff!!). I collect a few different characters but when I get a new Stitch pin I always get excited!! Only need 5 more Stitch pins and my collection will be totally complete!!!!
 
Bottom line..money. If it's a huge hit/seller with the consumer, Disney is going to produce a ton of it. Supply and demand. Plain and simple.

Personally, I love Stitch. The movie was great for so many reasons and Stich is a loveable character.
 
Stitch is just so cute and naughty! He's a versatile character, and because he's naughty he can get away with anything! I love the pins that depict scenes from the film.

It's Mickey and Minnie Ive really gone off, they are used far to much on pins and merchandise.
 
Hmm. this thread got me thinking, Just howm many pins are there of these characters? so I went to pin pics.

# of pins that appears when I type _____ into the search engine:
Stitch: 4887, keep in mind there are prolly 100 or so that have nothing to do with 626, I tried "stitch, lilo" and got 1347.
Mickey Mouse: 14229 also, keep in mind some of those might be improperly found in search, however the random pages I clicked on... Were ALLLLL mickey.
Tinker Bell: 4916 looked pretty accurate when i glanced through the pages.
Jerssica Rabbit:904 also looked pretty accurate
Ariel: 1225
 
I just choose to be glad there's people who like the stuff I don't particularly like, and who don't particularly like the stuff I like, that way there's always people to trade with!
 
Yes, that's what I like about it, always someone wants something you don't. I know there are a few stitch collectors. I can see the attraction now it's been explained. It's nice to know that someone will want them if I get any lol

I have never been a huge Stitch fan however my daughter really likes him. That was all she traded for at WDW. In the last few weeks I have found myself buying more Stitch pins for myself than any other character. He is obviously growing on me and the pin choices are numerous and great.
