Then again the traders could have been trading like how most trading used to be back in the day: trading for what we like, (semi) regardless of price (on ebay) or what pinpics says. I was given some smack about a trade I made back after the Mulan PoDM release; I traded a cherry blossom scene for an LE 125 Peter Pan pin (the one with Peter w/ Hook's jacket on and Wendy curtsying behind him). I didn't care for the Mulan scene very much, but I loved the Peter Pan Pin. Both myself and the trader I traded with were very happy with the trade and I got to know the trader better and we chatted for a bit after the trade. I felt the trade was fair (and I gained a new pin friend), others say it was lopsided. It's all subject to interpretation.
I think this is a great point. The whole "value" aspect has shifted to what pins could be sold for vs. the happiness they bring. I admire and respect people who still collect based on how much they like a pin, and/or how hard it was to find one, instead of "what its worth". IMO they are the ones that are receiving the full value of pin trading. The hobby was meant to be fun, provide the thrill of the hunt and warmth of friendly human interaction.
At the end of the day, everybody has their own "value" on pins; no matter if it is trade, sale, purchase, or otherwise. I hope both parties got whatever was the full-value of that trade in their hearts.

I can only tell what happened to me:
Last year I have been at the giving end of 2 very lopsided trades with 2 different people. I walked away happy .... until I found out the $$ value of the pins I traded away.
I purchased some pins 2-3 years back and tucked them away. I had no idea how valuable they got in the mean time as I did not look for them anymore.
When I found out those trades were in the other trader's favor, I felt very betrayed as I am 110% sure they knew what they were getting from me. Needless to say, I would never trade with those people again.
So, for me, both traders walking away happy goes only so far
Ryan i asked myself the same question... How do we know that trade A didnt know they were giving up such high value pins?Sharks are bad. In this case, I'd say Trader A is also partly at fault for having THAT good of pins and being THAT ignorant of pin values. How does that even happen?
It's not just pin trading. I work in a museum teaching school programs and I have my little prepared speech on the difference between the price of something and the meaning of something whenever people ask how much an artifact is "worth."
