Living in Wisconsin doesn't help...if we lived even a little closer to the parks, we could have a bit more fun with it. We did spend time trading at the last 2 WDW events, Reflections of Evil & Imagination Gala....unfortunately, though, if people don't know you or haven't heard of you, they rarely stop to look at your pins. Those who did were surprised we had such nice pins, yet the trades were mostly lopsided...possibly because they didn't know us? We'll still enjoy trading in the parks and going to the events we enjoy, but with fewer traders hopefully!

I'm new to trading and I totally see why long time traders might want to get out of it... seems like everything is about profit now.. a lot are not actually pin collectors/traders but just in it for quick bucks... It's taken me since May 2014 to actually get to a pin for pin trade instead of having to buy something I want... and that was last month!

Luckily, there are some super-kind people here picking up great pins at cost which has enabled me to beef up my traders a bit... :)

Until pin trading gets back to the core of actually trading for fun instead of profit it seems like more and more people will sell of their traders. Since I don't live near a park I have to get my trading fix any way I can. I am sorry but buying pins is not as much fun as trading. So I will still be trading until I can't do it any longer because I am so decrepit I can't get the pin backs off. There is just something special about trading you can't get any other way. Big trades are a blast to pull off.

Don't forget pin trading is supposed to be fun.

Yes! I agree with David ... not gonna quit pin trading until I'm too old to understand what they are . I've been collecting for 28 years or so and I've been trading for almost 14 years. I love "meeting" people through pin trading and I've made some FANTASTIC friends through this mad-cap hobby! I've seen the ebb and flow of trading and it seems to be on the "slow down" mode again. BUT I have faith that it will come back around again! I didn't trade for almost 2 years while having serious health issues and didn't purchase or acquire any newer pins for more like 3-4 years. When I was finally able to get back to Disneyland (I live in Northern California), my pins were much more interesting to traders. I was stunned ... I thought to myself "they're old," but lots of people were interested in what I had to trade lol! Many of the OE pins I collected a while back have NOT been remade by Disney ... guess that's why some people find them more interesting. I miss Disney Auctions and the GOOD days of DisneyShopping.com! but I'm gonna hang in here for a while longer :x: . Wishing you all the best luck in whatever you decide to do! Take care, *bjr
You two are awesome!!! :bigthumb:

I don't come around much, but I still peek in every once in awhile. I'll say that I've been on the fence and toyed with the idea as well during this lull. I just can't pull the trigger!! I blame people like David and the Pin Fairy Godmother! :D

I've just got a bunch of traders that just aren't doing anything. It's sad really what this has become. If anyone wants to trade, please hit me up.

Dude, pm sent. I would love to trade with you and anybody else for that matter!!!

I think at this point it's just quite difficult for all around. For instance, I consider myself a collector not a trader. This distinction, however, is not necessarily by choice. I've just never really been able to amass a good group of traders. It's hard to rationalize buying a pin to trade with someone when I could just buy the pin in the first place. I don't like that mentality but some of the trading has gotten so cutthroat lately (the selling has too but I try to hold off for decent deals). I wish I was able to trade more and maybe with expanding my collection a bit I will. The first step is to try and get some traders though. Decent traders as opposed to grails. I like to pick up other people's grails when I can though :)

A lot of it for me is about the thrill of the hunt! Whether it's by trading or buying, the exciting part for me is tracking down pieces to a set and helping others do the same. Making friends and finding a pin family is part of what this is all about right? It's about the journey to the great collection and the memories made along the way.

How long have you been trading/collecting? You have figured it out very quickly, it is about the journey and the people you meet!!! It took me years and many thousands of dollars to figure out I don't have to have everything and if I am patient pins will find their way to m. I used to be a completest on every pin available. That got expensive fast. Thank goodness it was still in the days of reasonable prices. Of course when I did figure that out, I had some great traders to use.

I've been collecting on and off for about 3 years. Mostly on Facebook. But I've made a friend or two in the process and it's been really nice :) I really joined this site to find some more friends and add to my pin family! It's a work in progress, but it is working lol I love getting to know everyone on the site :)

Threads like these make me even more sad that I got into this hobby so late in the game! I feel like I've missed out on the best years! I just hope that pins continue to be made and that people still collect and talk about them, even if the trading itself dies down!

Personally, I think I might just zap my traders away at some point. Not like I have many to begin with, and it's doubtful that I could get anything I really want from them. I might sell or trade my completist collection "doubles" though. I have 2-3 of every pin in my completist collection, including a couple of grails that I know some people want. Don't ask me why I got 2-3 of them, lol! I think the original plan was to have one framed collection and one packaged/mint collection... it seems silly now though!

:p

HandA ... sorry to hijack this thread looking for you,but I was hoping you could reply to the PM I sent you last week... you were checking on something for me. I tried writing you asking for an update, but it says your PM inbox is full and it won't allow me to send you another messsage until you clean out your PM inbox. Hoping you can clean out your PM inbox and get back to me with a reply on if you found what you said you would look for for me. I'm just hoping it will notify you of this message to your email.
Thank you!! --Jason H.

Off topic, but how do you guys s traders think we could breathe some life back into trading? I know Disney responds well to public opinion but we would need a large number of voices for them to do anything.
