I've noticed that a number of forum members have been recently banned from the forum. It seems like the boards are being much more heavily monitored. One of these members I was in the middle of a transaction with. Since we were communicating over PM and not email, I have no way of contacting this member. How long do their bannings last? And how do I now go about trying to contact them? I think it is important to remember that this punishment not only affects said members, but it also has negative repercussions to other members.
 
Yeah I have noticed this also. I am jsst putting this out there but there is a certain mod who might be stretchingthe rules a little. Ive noticed most gettig banned id because they bumped more than once in a day
 
Scott, maybe you can still get in touch with the said member provided that the e-mail they signed up with is still active.

A MOD has a job to do. That job includes enforcing the rules when they get broken. No MOD on here is "drunk on power." They are trying to do their jobs. Also, you do not know WHICH MOD banned a person, so how can you even begin to accuse one of them of being drunk on power? Get the facts before you make inflammatory, instigating comments.


  • A person who is bumping their auctions or sales threads multiple times a day is NOT going to get banned the first time it occurs. A ban for something like that would take multiple warnings. A ban like that would likely also be short term.
  • A person who makes an unprovoked attack on another member is going to receive infractions. IF they do it multiple times, the result is a ban. Temporary or permanent depends on the situation. I know we are all sad that a certain member has received a 2 week ban. But that is up to the MOD's, not us.
  • A person who threatens other members is going to get a perma ban.

Seems pretty clear cut to me. I don't break the rules, i don't get infractions or banished.

DPF is a community, and to keep the peace and harmony of said community, sometimes the MOD's have to play hard ball. Even people we know and love say the wrong thing and get into trouble occasionally.

Implying that the MOD's are misusing their power is incredibly disrespectful, and putting it on an open thread is downright hostile. If you don't like how things are going here, leave. Go to pintalk. Otherwise, take your problem to PM with the Admin's.

Hope I don't get yelled at, but I like that mods have stepped in a little more. It shows a real initiative to make changes. I would try emailing as merryweather suggested or posting in anything goes like megglesm suggested. Worst case, in time they will come back on and get the trade resolved. Good luck and I hope you can get this resolved easily.
 
You could post your email address and ask him/her to contact you, since banned members still seem to be able to log in and browse the forum.

This so much. I think a lot of people have the false impression that being a Mod or part of a Staff team on a site gives you special privileges and makes you "top dog" on the site for lack of a better term.

The truth of the matter is that being a moderator on a site is not always easy and sometimes very draining. You try to handle matters in the best interest of the site while being fully aware that many members may scrutinize you for your decision. You also become the target of people who are already disgruntled with the community (or the internet in general), and you must handle people who decide to give you a bad day for no good reason in a way befitting of a moderator, or else you may find yourself under scrutiny.

No, a moderator's job is not always difficult, and it can be an awesome experience to be there for other members and feel you are helping a site you love in a big way. The most important truth I think would be beneficial for everyone to keep in mind is a moderator is just a another member who accepts an invitation by the staff team to take time out to benefit and help the site in anyway they can. They are not against the site- they are for the site. And the amount of work they do often goes unnoticed.

One big way we can show appreciation for them is by being respectful, and First going to them if we have a question or concern. If we feel it will be beneficial to post a question or concern on the forums, be respectful in either asking the question or answering it.



My two cents and hope I didn't stray from the topic at hand too much. Just needed to say it ^.^
 
I applaud the mods for stepping up and taking control back. There was starting to be a lot of unnecessary drama here and it needs to go away. Everybody should feel welcomed here. It is a lot more fun when everybody is getting along. We need to play by the rules set up or not be here.

Thank you to the mods and admins for giving us a place that so many people want to be at.

I agree with pysyco pixie. A mod has a job and it SUCKS when they have to enforce rules others have broken. I am sure no mod wants some one banned. Everyone has to follow the rules set forth by the admins. This only makes the forum a great place for everybody.
 
Also if the person is on pinpics,look at their trades and see if they are seen and their email might be visible to see,that's another option as well,but I think Selens suggestion would be better

Once again it was my opinion. If you did not like my opinion pm me next time. Also on response to your sentence about pin talk. I'm already on it.
 
My concern with the recent banning that I have discussed in chat while a mod was present, is this.....if you are going to begin enforcing the rules and or making an example out of people behaving badly you MUST do that across the board. It has been widely discussed that certain members that have extensive histories of trolling posts and stirring up problems but doe some reason they have yet to be banned.

The rules for one need to be the rules for all PERIOD. Failing to do that creates even more animosity among members as well as singer pointing at the mods in general. I have personally witnessed interactions that were sooooo awful that had the power been in my hand they would have gotten LIFETIME bans!! The members I am talking about are still active so wth?

I appreciate the commitment that you guys are taking but how about adding a few more to lighten the load? Bow about you let the community know how,who and why bans happen. Who decides? Is it something that is discussed among more than one mod? I personally genuinely like one of the mods and he seems like a straight shooter who genuinely tries to be fair and I would defend his behavior because once again RULES ARE RULES!
